Lately, I found that really costs the same. I do the store bought more than homemade. I feel the store's bakery has changed their recipes. Has anyone noticed this? What kind pound cake do you enjoy the most? I buy pound cake at the store. Happy pound cake day. Have a gr8 day :present:

Oh gosh I'm not sure how to answer this. I'm a cake decorator for the largest grocer in the US. So it's not uncommon for me to pick something up out of convenience. Although, I love to bake and have become a sole proprietor this year under the cottage food law. When I have time I prefer a home baked treat - It boils down to therapy for me more than anything.
-
I'm not a baker, but I usually make the cake.
-
I have tried making pound cake and it never turns out as good as a store bought, its always much drier.
I bake cakes more often then not
-
Don't know how it can cost the same. A store bought cake is over $20. A home made one if like 97 cents for the cake mix. A little over a buck for a tub of icing. Then oil, a couple eggs, and some water. That is less than a buck. So you can make it yourself for less than $4.

i prefer homemade over package...but i do both...i guess it depends on the time i have
-
Cost is one thing to consider but TASTE is the most important thing - that's why I rely on homemade cakes. At least I know what I put in it and how it tastes without all the unnecessary artificial ingredients of store bought.

You don't know what is in your ingredients. Just recently there was a huge recall on flour. Unless you grown your own wheat. lol. Then you don't know what could have been done to the seeds. :)

i love pound cakes or any cake, but when i make them its always from the box, i tried to make them from scratch, sometimes it don't come out right, but i had a sister who only did her cakes from scratch. she was the best.

Homemade feels better, but it is very difficult to make a cake on the level of a store bought one.
-
Store bought cookies are okay, but I prefer homemade.
-
I'm finding the bakery cakes to be much better lately
-
I find that bakery cakes are too sweet for me, so I prefer making my own.
-
It depends on the pastry. I usually like to make cupcakes since the store-bought ones taste absolutely horrible. But I tend to purchase store-bought cookies.
-
Yes store have changed their bakeries and their cakes are good... BUT they are still so artificial compared to something you could make at home.
There is no way you can compare the two.
Store have too much preservatives and artificial colors (which are not healthy for your stomach)... and.. well they taste great, but it all depends also on HOW OFTEN you buy cakes from them.
Making cakes at home takes time, patience, effort.... bt there is nothing compared to homemade food!!!

I love to cook and bake so we have more homemade items at our house than store bought.
-
Our local grocery store makes really good cakes so for be it is a no brainer. I used to love to bake but not any more.
-
I always wait till Friday from where I'm at either its on Vons or Food4less the price is 5$ for a pretty decent cake to eat.
-
i buy store bought once in a while.
-
I do both. Depending on price.
-
Store bought are okay, but there is nothing better than a homemade cake because they are made with love and you know what ingredients are put in the cake.
-
I prefer homemade cakes! I mean, there are a bunch of great store bought cakes out there but it is the process of baking the cake that I love :-[
-
If I have the time, homemade for sure. But if I just have too much going on, it's easier to lessen the stress and buy a store bought. I agree they are much better than they used to be. But nothing ever beats homemade IMO.

I've seen allot of change in all the food markets in every area, people are getting wise on junk in our foods and demanding quality, think of how many years mac and cheese was getting away with selling us junk, and now they act all proud they changed ... I'd be hiding behind a door peeking asking please give me another chance ... I try to make all my stuff from scratch and the all organic is too spendy for me all at once but little by little i'm switching over. Good cake is to die for my fav is red velvet with cream cheese frosting home made all they way from scratch.

I love to bake. So I love to bake cakes. I just don't have the time or the energy to put forth the effort to make it from scratch. The boxed mixes are a lot quicker, but even quicker is picking up one at the market. I always wanted to open my own pastry shop. There have been two or three bakeries in my family and several other barbeque joints and thrift stores. You don't see many real bakeries anymore. Around here it is just donut shops. When I was younger our bakeries had everything and looked similar to Carlo's Bakery from Cake Boss. One even had a deli style restaurant sort of like McAlister's.

My mom makes really good homemade cakes. I have never really liked store bought for this reason I guess. They have too much sugar in them.
-
Homemade cakes are the best.
-
If i have the time i really prefer home made cake. That way, it is a bit cheaper and my kids get to taste that home made flavor in the cake
-
For a special family event, such as birthday or anniversary, I usually make a cake. Though not fully home-made. I would use a store bought cake mix, then add my own filling and a special flavored cream frosting. Can do different variations. Yummy!
-
I like both!
-
Home made cake is awesome but I love both.

I recently made a white moist duncan hines cake out of the box, it was a Ralphs Friday free deal, so the mix was free...
I purchased two white icing tubes from the 99 cent store, pillsbury brand.
The cake mix called for 3 eggs, so .60 cents for the eggs.
Not counting how much it cost to run the stove, or the water to clean the pots & mixing bowl... price was apx $2.80.
Everybody who had a piece thought it was delicious.... I used a bundt pan so it was super easy. lol
I still rather purchase a ready made cake, but the price difference for a good cake from a bakery is about $25.00.

Homeade is so much better but store brought is easy eating
-
Have been doing more homemade as they taste better. Been doing a lot with bananas since we always seem to have some that are overripe.
-
I am not great at baking so I buy store bought cake occasionally in the local market. The price is not too bad and sometimes it is on sale. But recently I did bake some banana muffins, not a cake and it tasted pretty good.
-
Homemade is always best. I rarely buy cakes from the store because of the unnecessary myriad of processed ingredients added.
-
The store cakes are extremely high but sometimes I pick up one for $6 but most of the time I bake them.
-
Store bought works for me
-
Do boxed cake mixes count as storebought or homemade? Maybe I'm just more used to it but I actually find those taste better than a from-scratch cake. Store frosted cakes are at the bottom of the list, never have any flavor.
-
I do all of my baking. If you sub. the water and oil with like amounts of milk and melted butter your cake will taste more like it come from the bakery. just be sure to give it a couple more minutes before taking it out of the oven. It will be more moist and people will think it come from the bakery.
-
I should have told you it was a box mix, sorry about that.
-
like to make my own cake
