Our cable took another jump this month so I guess we are getting ready to pull the plug on it. I just can't justify paying $169.99 a month for cable, internet and a landline phone (that we don't use). I called to have the phone turned off but because it was part of the bundle, it would cost me $177.99 without it! We get oodles of stations but probably only watch 10-12 of them throughout the month. I am going to check Amazon for the new digital antennas. My daughter says they work good but she lives in a big city with several TV stations.

Yeah, prices are nuts.
I pay $129 for basic cable and TV. I do not use a home phone, only cell.
This price will go up on my cable soon, but I am hoping to negotiate a deal. It has happened before, so I will try, at least.
This bill is hard on my budget, but I live alone and like the background noise of TV, and use the internet daily.

My cable bill went up to $158 month. I bought a new flat screen TV and go the Leaf inside antania and I have 18 channels. I now pay zero money to watch tv. It is tacked to the wall with a cord that goes in the back of tv. I have saved alot. That is something to look into. Hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe. :)

The prices of cable today are ridiculous! Then the companies wonder why they are losing business to things like Amazon Fire Stick, Hulu, etc. I pay $125 a month for the starter cable package, phone, and internet. But after my 2-year contract expires, the rate is going to jump up, so I might be jumping off the cable bandwagon and moving to a Fire Stick or something similiar.

I pay $225 for a bundle - cable with some pay stations, landline phone + fast internet. I only have two boxes. I used to have all the pay channels, but the last renewal, tons got cut out.
My kids watch youtube or kodi or play on their phones... Hulu or netflix. They rarely watch "regular" tv... tv will be phased out with this upcoming generation - too many other options. You don't need the cable boxes anymore, the roku gets time warner cable & all the ondemands.
I got a voip phone to replace the landline, years ago but it is still sitting in the box in the closet, I might set it up shortly. $45 a month for the just for emergency landline.... that is crazy, could have a cell phone service.

Yes my cable bill went up use 3 tv's with little better then basic but not much. Also internet and landline. Its almost 200.00 and yes hate paying that much.
-
I know how you feel. Before I switched TV providers, my bill went up to $220 for internet, landline and satellite TV service.

cables prices are to much money and not worth the channels

I dropped high cable bills a couple of years ago and have saved a bundle with no loss of entertainment. I tried Kodi (free), but found it too frustrating. Now I have an antenna and a Roku box with Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime that suits all my needs except prime sports (which I don't watch anymore).
-
I am trying to find a better alternative than cable also

I hope you don't mind me asking, Old Buddy, but how much does this cost you each month? I am thinking of something similar as my cable contract is up in 3 days!

I would love to find an alternative to cable, prices keep skyrocketing and I personally see no reason for the continued increases. It is frustrating but we're just don't want to give up our cable and internet.

My Internet connection is $39 a month for 30Gb up and down (which I would have anyway)
The antenna was a one time 14.95 on Ebay
Netflix is $12 a month
Hulu Plus (with no ads) my son pays for and it's about the same price as Netflix
Amazon Prime was $69 for the year on sale, but I mainly use it to save on shipping and get faster service for purchases.
We watch with the antenna or Netflix most of the time.

wow our bill is 261 a month for cable phone and internet. have tried to talk hubby dearest into cancelling them all except the internet as we all have cell phones but he refuses (men!) ... tried to get it lowered, but it's a bundle and everything they offered us costs MORE.
-
Cable rates are outrageous! Some people buy those little gadgets to add to your TV and get all free channels. Free Internet connection is available at public libraries.
Save a bundle...try to get it for free.
-
I would love to have a stadard price for all cable
-
There are 2 companies that provide service in my area so I used to switch between the two whenever my promotion price and contract ended. A bit of a hassle but a triple play bundle would go from $75/mo to $150/mo once promotion price ended.

This is why I don't have cable because of the high prices. I use Roku and a Firestick, it is the best decision I have made and way better than cable. And Sling TV is nice too.
-
I pay $175 for my cable and internet bundle. I have been thinking of getting rid of cable and just using my amazon fire stick and netflix. It is crazy how much cable is.

The only thing that is crazy, is how many people keep paying it! Look through this thread and see what I mean.

Netflix and Hulu Plus are a great alternative, but X-box is expensive (unless you like to play games). You can get a Roku stick for only $24.95 refurbished on Amazon.

We just have over-the-air with a digital antennae and don't miss cable at all. I was reading that some people use fire sticks with Kodi to stream TV for free. Maybe you should look into that if you don't think you can live with just the antenna.
