Title: Retiring
Post by: kingozzy on May 30, 2017, 09:34:54 am
I want to retire now and just relax and enjoy life from here on out, but the trouble is ... is that I am 39, I will have to work another 30 years just to have enough to enjoy life.

Everyone needs to pay their dues, but it's worth it. I retired 17 years ago and still love it.

If you don't have enough funds, retirement can be really tough.  So get a plan set up now so that you can enjoy it.

Ha, sounds exactly like me. I just turned 39 a few weeks ago and can't believe that I will still have to work for 25 years!!

I retired early, went on partial Soc Sec to help my single son raise 4 kids.

Sadly, my son passed away, the kids are with their mom several states away, and I will never be on full soc. sec.

Enjoy your life, work to the future, but enjoy what you have today.

We never know what today or tomorrow holds.

I retired and missed working somewhat. So now I have a part time job which seems to satisfy me. Sometimes being fully retired is boring unless you are wealthy and can keep busy.

I don't expect I'm gonna get to retire at all.

Good luck retiring that young. Nowadays people find that they have to work well into their 70's....

One of my best friends stayed over this weekend and is on the five year to retirement plan. He figures that he needs three point two million in his account to live a life close to what he is living now. This does not count the equity in his house. He lives in New York and said that they will sell the house and move to a state that is not as absurd with taxes and buy a house that is considerably less expensive. He is currently maxing out his contributions and his company matches six percent of it. He set up a small business in which the majority of that a income goes into a simplified employment pension plan and IRA. They have a condominium in Vermont that they will sell to pay off their son's college. He is forty three.

The good news is that you are 39 and already planning for retirement. Start with 30 years and work backwards, hopefully it will come sooner than you expect.

I haven't joined the workforce yet, but I hope that when I do, I don't spend the whole time longing for retirement. I hope I'm able to do something that I enjoy at least somewhat. Working with animals is ideal.  :bunny: :cat: :dog: :monkey: :turkey:

Is it possible you don't like your job and that's why you want to retire so early?  If that's the case, plenty of people have changed careers mid-life.  Check out other careers and opportunities. If you're happy doing what you are doing, it won't seem so much like work, and you will enjoy your day to day life more.

Three decades more for me and just try to build my 401k so that when the time comes I can finance myself and enough for a food retire life. I saw many old/retired people going back to work because their pensions is not enough and its hard.  So while still young build your retirement fund.

Retirement sounds pretty good to me..
I remember when my grandmother was trying to retire
each time she was ready to retire they raised the
retirement age..
Retirement is nice but .. i really don't understand how
people can retire and survive with the cost of living
always going up

Hello! :D :)

Since I love being my own boss I doubt I will ever retired, my work is my life. The key to an early retirement is to get a job that works well with your life. :peace:

There are a lot of people that retire at a young age. They save a lot of money and invest it, then retire when they reach FIRE

I have been retired for some time but I'm busy taking care of my mom.  It feels like a full time job with all the appointments but I'm glad I can do it.  The only thing I really miss is being able to go places spur of the moment.

I've been retired for 2 years.  I love it.  I now have the time to explore cooking new recipes, I'm gardening veggies and flowers and am just enjoying life.   I do a lot of work online, like FC, to earn some extra income and I adore being able to do it on my own schedule and work in comfy clothes.

I worked for 49 years and was forced into retirement kicking and dragging. I still am not happy being retired and keep looking for another job but who will hire a disabled 69-year-old?  I was self-employed PLUS worked a flexible full time job 14/7 plus holidays.

I take after my dad who always worked 2-3 jobs up until he died at age 75.  As a kid, I was always with him on the jobs as a milkman delivering mild at the crack of dawn, then a truck driver, for 2 different companies and helping out on the farm mowing hay, feeding the animals, you name it.

Retirement is not all it's cracked up to be. People forget about you after retirement. Those friends from your job have better things to do. Childhood friends die as do your family.

Enjoy life while you can. It gets depressing when you're retired.

Been retired  for 7 years and enjoy it, I still do substitute teaching which helps out and  just try to make it on the retirement plan I put in place, yes hard sometimes but I would not want to be back in the workforce full time, I  also do a lot of volunteering and enjoy making my own schedule; so hang in there and make a plan; good luck!!!

If you believe that you have to work that many more years to retire, then you are right.  If you think you can retire in just a few years, you are also right.

Make the most of the years of working you have left by making sure you sock away a certain percentage of your earnings for retirement. If you really want to enjoy retirement years you are going to need moola to do that.

I think when I get in my sixties I will cut back on working, but I do not think I will fully retire. I like earning money and having something to do. When I am off from work for a couple of days, I get depressed. I think working will keep me going.

I cannot wait to reach the big 'R' myself. With my occupation, I can retire by the age of 45.
