Title: Fleas
Post by: Azanne07 on October 08, 2017, 12:25:19 pm
Any tips on getting rid of fleas?

Anyone find the magic cure?

Haha I used to be able to just wash my short hair dog and good to go

But I have this long hair dog and the fleas just seem to stick into his fur.

I can fill the tub and put his body under and scrub away and still cant seem to get them outta his fur even the ones that I find dead. they stay in his freaking fur.

I don't want to shave him this late into fall with winter around the corner but I guess that's what I am going to have to do so the da*n things have less places to hide.

A stray wound up giving my 2 indoor dogs fleas when they came into contact with it.  They then gave them to our 5 indoor cats.  And we tried everything under the sun.  The only thing that worked was shaving them all.   :confused1:

It is not easy to shave cats!  And they looked funny...got a couple chuckles.

Try giving your dog a flea bath.  You can purchase a flea comb (very cheap find them at any pet store) and comb your dog.  I assume you realize they are also in your house.  I know this is an old wives tale, but honestly it works.  Try to find 20 Mule Team Borax ( some stores have it), if you have carpet spread it on the carpet and furniture (won't hurt it), let it there for about 10 to 15 minutes then vacumn it (throw the bag away immediately or if bagless immediately take the dirt outside and out in garbage.  You will have to wash all bedding also.  If you have drapes try to vacumn if you can't wash.  I know this is a pain but it does work.  Years ago I brought a cat into my home with fleas (I didn't know until too late), a breeder friend told me to do this and it worked,  never had them since, thank God. Good luck!

So you can actually feed your dogs garlic and it will keep fleas off of them. Another home remedy is to add either distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar in their water. To be honest I've even bathed my dogs in vinegar to get those pest off of my pups.

I got some stuff from Lowe's.  It's granules that I put in the yard with a spreader.  There are a couple of different types and that is the only thing I have ever used that worked for me.

I get flea and tick meds from my dogs vet. They work great. I can't think of what they are called off the top of my head though.

I have tried the cheap costing all the way up to the most expensive stuff and none of it really works for me at all. :bad:

:) I spray my carpet and furniture. It helps but it seems like they are getting tougher to get rid of. :)  :dog:

I would just go with the flea bath and buy some flea drops for your pet few drops a day onto the fur basically destroyed the traces of the fleas for my dog.
