I am very excited at 64 to be taking my first trip albeit short by rail to visit with my sister-in-law for a week. It is just from FL to SC but I am a hermit and a miserable one I figured this will get me out of the house. Later she and I might go on a long trip by rail up into canada. Have you ever taken a trip by train and did you enjoy it?

That is one of my dream trips. Wow, maybe need a traveling buddy. Have a safe trip :cat:
-
years ago from Ca to Oregon it was fun beautiful scenery and calm ride. little hard to sleep at night but mom and i made up for it at my aunts house.
-
not a "trip" per se...just a ride to/from where I needed to go...lol
-
I have, it was great. I traveled about 100 miles and I was able to watch a movie during the train ride. It was a great experience and I didn't have to drive. It's definitely recommended.
-
No I have not, but I will one day.
-
I have but not since I was a kid travelling with my grandparents who are afraid of planes.
-
Last year we went to London and took a side trip to Paris on the EuroStar under the English Channel at 185 miles an hour. It was very cool and we enjoyed it just because of the uniqueness (not much to see). There was a lot to see once we got there.
-
I traveled by train when I was stationed in Germany. I enjoyed it.
-
No I have not I was on one for a short ride 45 minutes I think one way.
-
Enjoy your trip!!
I did take Amtrak years ago and enjoyed the experience.
-
Once and I didn't like it at all! Maybe it was due to the lack of ventilation.
-
I have not but I would.
-
I haven't taken a trip with one but I have taken it for just a fun ride
-
I would love to do this someday.
-
No. I have never traveled by train because I haven’t lived in an area where there would be enough ridership available according to population and density of the population for a train.
-
I've never traveled by train, but think it would be interesting for a short distance trip.
-
I took the Amtrak once and the whistle at at light or cross street almost drove me crazy. I took the bullet train in France and it was a nice 5 hour ride. A dog sit there quietly during the entire ride and it was amazing.
-
I never took a train a long distance, but last summer we went on a train ride. It took us all through Amish country in Lancaster PA. The ride was about 1 hour and I loved it.
-
no but i think it would be neat,,,,,
-
No but I would love to.
-
No i haven't. But I'm planning on for next year
-
My family traveled to Connecticut by rail a few year ago.
-
I haven't rode the rails yet but I will next year
-
Haven't taken a trip by train in a while, but I used to enjoy it. Much less stressful than taking a plane - less security to go through and you have more seat space. Much better than bus too, I get carsick when ever there's bad traffic. I love eating my meal while watching the view go by. I hope you enjoy your trip!

I LOVE train trips … :)

I have not taken a trip by train however it is on my bucket list to take the train across the USA some day.
-
When I was in college in Pennsylvania, I took a trip to Hershey via train. It was an OK experience, but I prefer taking more "traditional" ground transportation (e.g., car, bus).
-
I have never taken a long trip by train but have always wanted to and am very jealous of the trip you are about to take. I hope you both have a wonderful time (which I am sure you will)!
-
ino but it sounds very cool...
-
I have always wanted to ride a train but never had the chance

When I was 5,my grandmother and I took a train from Portland to Seattle. It was very fun

I've taken several train trips in the past on Amtrak as my wife is a bit afraid to fly. The ride itself (to me) felt very similar to flying with the way the seats and aisle are laid out and the swaying motion of the train felt a bit like slight air turbulence in a plane. The main difference is the length of time it takes to get where you are going. But I always felt like the train travel was the most relaxing part of a trip! There is so much more to see on a train than in a car or bus or plane - at least that has been my experience. But that also requires a window or lounge car seat to take it all in.
I have no immediate plans, but intend to take several more train rides in the future.
-
I have never taken a trip by rail before, I don't know why though Lol I either go by car or plane.
-
When I was growing up, riding by train was very common.
It was safe too. When I was in my early teens (13 etc), my folks would put me on a train from Illinois to Jacksonville Florida.
We had a porter who would try to put me with other teens on the dining car for dinner, and then would go to my little private compartment to sleep etc.
Fun, and easy peasy.

Sounds fun. It is something I will love to do soon.
-
No, I've never taken a trip by rail, but it sounds amazing! I've been on planes; I've been on a cruise; I've been on road trips. But I've yet to take a trip by train. In the movies it always looks so inviting!

Yes,i have but not in the USA.I would like to travel by train here.
-
Many times!
-
No maybe one day
-
No, but that sounds so exciting. I didn't realize we still had passenger trains that went through central florida. I thought those were all discontinued years ago.
-
I haven't taken a trip by train before, but I've rode some of the city trains they have in the city. I have rode a small train, just not a big one yet!
-
I have never taken a trip by rail, but it sounds exciting. I am not into planes too much so I look into rail and buses as an alternative. The rail seems cool though.
-
At 32, I never have and I don't really have any desire. The only way I would personally think it would be neat would be if I was doing it in Europe.
-
I've never taken a trip by rails. I certainly wish you a terrific trip!
-
I took my first trip by rail when I was about 13 years old. It was fun and exciting for a country girl.
-
It's a shame more people don't enjoy train travel. It's a great way to see the country and is a lot less stressful than driving. It's also much more comfortable than flying. I highly recommend it if you've never traveled by train.

when I was a young teen, I used to take the train from Illinois to Florida to visit with my grandmother for a month every summer.
Slept in a private bed, sink, toilet etc, and ate in the dining car.
Was an adventure. My dad would alwys tip the porter on the train to make sure I was ok, and he would check me by knocking on my door at night, and make sure I had nice eating companions at dinner time.
This was not unusual when I was growing up. We did not hop on a plan. It was not like that when I was a kid.
My dad did for business purposes.

-
I never have but I would love to someday.

Trains are great. My first trip was to Springfield when I was in fifth grade. We saw Lincoln's home and ate our sack lunches on the train. I've taken a few trips since then, mostly to Chicago. It's nice. 8)

You should be proud of yourself for getting out and doing something so amazing. You're blessed to have someone who'll share an adventure with you. I hope it's great fun for you both. :highfive:
