Is blaming the National Football league for declining profits. John Schnatter, Papa John's CEO, has pulled commercials from being aired during football games for the first time since becoming a sponsor in 2001 and stated that the anthem protests are polarizing the viewer, customer and the country. National Football League ratings are down five percent from the same time last year. I remember when I used to go to every National Basketball association game and every major league baseball game in my city until the players and owners got greedy at which time I quit cold turkey and have not watched a game in thirty years. I love football but am starting to wean myself from watching it because I think that there is a time and a place for protesting and neither are during a football game. I am skipping my team's game this evening (love the Packers) to get some work done-not even watching the score.

This situation is getting worse. Note:
"...the ratings for “Sunday Night Football” in. Deadline reports:
Pulling focus to last night's sometimes fog drenched SNF, the NBC broadcast game snared a 9.6/16 in metered market results.
Up a scant 2%, that's pretty steady with last week's SNF season low when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Detroit Lions and SNF faced a very dramatic Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. That 8:30 – 11:30 PM ET game result went on to draw a NFL tepid 4.8/15 among adults 18-49 and 13.86 million viewers. Even with a season of ratings slides, that was a rare loss of a Sunday for the NFL and the Comcast-owned net to the 5.3/17 and 18.94 million that the baseball game and Fox scored.
Year-to-year, last night's Raiders vs. Dolphins battle declined 18% from the early numbers of the comparable game of last year, which Oakland won."

I've never been much of a sports watcher, but I totally understand why the fans are pulling away from the NFL. Football, in my opinion, was never very politicized in the past, therefore people from all walks could enjoy it. Now it's just another polarizing entity, which we don't need any more of. :(
-
Ive never tried his pizza. That protest is ridiculous. They are disrespectful not standing
-
What I wonder about is those people who are protesting the protesting by not watching, not purchasing merchandise is have they realized they are also hurting the players who are standing. They are also hurting all the little folks who work in professional football. I'm not sure but it can probably be researched, I believe there are more "regular" folks employed by the NFL than there are football players. Ticket takers, concession workers, janitors and so many others.
-
Is it a coincidence that the whole "kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem" as a form protest really took off once Donald Trump became President? I'm just saying.
-
If people would read, it is not about the National Anthem!! We knee to pray, we knee for a sign of unity. It is all about not be treated right in this world and I agree with michele2042 what about the little people, regular folks that work to earn a living. A lot of people not put their hands across their hearts for the Pledge to the Flag and that's their right, come on people we all have rights to do as we see fit.
-
"If people would read"...the original post (please read) was about the timing-nothing about the National Anthem. The majority of National Football League viewers are not watching the game for political statements/judgement. Dennis Miller would have lasted longer as a sportscaster if viewers wanted anything other than football. Why not use some of the millions that these players make to pursue proactive routes to ending perceived oppression? The comment about kneeling to pray was dismissed because it had nothing to do with the statement or anything remotely related to the NFL's downfall at this time. Have these over-paid, kneeling, egotists invest in community centers or, better yet, invest in commercial time to view their beliefs on the oppressed. The Seahawks have started doing community service-why doesn't that catch on? The players who are standing should explain that the protest should be carried on in a different venue and that they are there for one reason-to play football

Love USA
-
Really surprised at papa johns situation with race. love there pizza
-
I have not watched a game since this started.... and now i'm glad to be done with it for good!
-
I don't watch football so i have no idea.
-
Not buyinf from there anymore.;
-
Personally, I have backed off considerably from viewing football. My decision for that is based on things other than anthem protests, even though I can understand why so many people are outraged by it all.
As far as Papa John's is concerned: The pies are way too salty for me. I get my pizzas elsewhere.

This started when last year when Obama was president.

I think you should do some more reading if you thinking kneeling to pray is the equivalent of kneeling for the anthem. You're missing the point of both. Taking a knee doesn't mean the same thing across all situations.

I agree. But not sure how Papa John's can blame the football players for declining profits. He made the choice to pull the ads. Not that seeing them ads during a foot ball game would make people order from them. They are my second favorite. My first is Papa Murphy's which we just got a year or so ago.

Too bad. Your actions not only effect you but others. I wish NFL would go completely bankrupt. Let them idiots get a real job where they actually work for a living. As for all the little people I never thought about that but still don't care. I will boycott any company or event that is doing something contrary to what I believe in.

I've heard that Papa Johns pizza had decided not to run commercials during the games. I don't know that football games had anything to do with the sells of the pizza or not! :-\
-
Papa Johns is my least favorite of pizza places in my area. I would rather have a frozen Digiornos than Papa Johns.
-
I dont watch Football, Basketball or Baseball and i have heard some of what is going on which becoming more of a bigger issue.

Vg7405 I don't why some people want to excuse Trumps behavior, but then they want blame
players and the NFL for the problem. And some people do not want to expect true that the
kneeling in in protest of social injustice and not about the flag. Donlad Trump has been tweeting
about any and everyting any the news to distract from people from talking about the Muller
insitgation. I think that some people are tired of paying for high price food at these football
staduim and have to pay high prices for the tickets too.

I think you've got a point about the high price of stadium food. I used to work concessions (on the side) way back in the day...I mean waay back in the day...Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium. I know more about stadium food than I care to talk about (I did witness some incredible football history however). I've never been inside "Jerry's World" in Arlington, but I know there is a variety of food prices there. It's evolved for sure, but the ticket prices are insane! With this "issue" -- controversial or not -- tickets are priced to almost a giveaway.
So for now, I've only peeked at Week 11 SNF (Cowboys & Eagles); it was painful so it was easy to stay away.

repying to 2 red bags comment:)
our president trump truly cares we contacted him with a problem we had at court yesterday when the D.A. forced my husband to disclose our location with the woman who threatened to kill us in the courtroom. he handed her a get of jail free and heres where to kill them card. he replied back and gave our information to the attorney general and advised us to get a no contact order and have a policeman escort my husband to work. he said we can legally do this. this is forwarded to the attorney general immediately. was very concerned about our minor child and her safety. may I ask how many presidents in this world would ever want to help save the life of a poor family ? any presidents in history books you can think of? food for thought

Some people that are boycotting the NFL are also boycotting their sponsors.
-
Papa John's deals are not as good as Domino's and Pizza Hut's deals around here. If the CEO wants the company to do better, he should stop complaining and start creating better deals.
-
not a fan of Papa Johns pizza and I love the USA
-
Honestly I understand the CEO getting upset for players taking a knee during the anthem but he made the choice to pull his commercials. To blame them specifically when no one is seeing his commercials anymore is stupid. If people want his pizza they will go to the store. Commercials play a major role in consumerism. He should have thought of that before pulling is ads. It's not the NFL's fault for lack of customers. That's what happens when you're not a political company but throw politics into the mix.
-
the owners should have stopped it. now they pay the price
-
The latest news is that Com. Goodell's contract will probably be extended despite some efforts to oppose him. Reporting for CBS Sports, Jason La Canfora writes:
"… Regardless, a majority of owners are in favor of wrapping this up as soon as possible and moving forward with Goodell as their face as they head into vital contract negotiations with the NFLPA and their broadcast partners early next decade. Goodell’s new contract would run through 2024. As we have reported throughout the season, formally completion of this contract was always inevitable, with the major tenants of the deal in place weeks ago, and Jones has always lacked the wherewithal and support to upend it, through legal channels or otherwise."
🏈

I never had Papa Johns pizza, is it good ?
-
As for his business, yeah he needs to do what is best for his company. Decline in NFL viewers and bad publicity may have something to do with it.
-
Their pizza is the absolute worst. It's basically cardboard. So bad.
-
Their pizza is absolutely terrible. I think that's a sound business decision though. No one wants to be associated with drama like that. Those football players need a dose of real life. They think they're the shizzle b/c everyone fawns over them. All they can do is throw a ball. Why don't we start paying our teachers or the military that salary? Education would sky rocket.
-
compare what we eat in this age to what Jesus and his kind ate and you wonder why so many Americans are fat and unhealthy ? 💀
-
I don't get into sports too much. Football is ok, but I would prefer baseball. It makes more sense to me. :)
-
He apologized for what he said after the white supremacists came out to support him and the sales dropped even more. Anytime you complain about something it usually makes things worse and more people jump on the band wagon and boycott you. Make better deals and keep your mouth shut. I like Little Caesars.
-
thank you for the info, but I have never ever been a sport fan at all.
-
Papa johns has great pizza
-
I have stop watch most sports before this issue but i have been wondering what Papa John is doing as far as business/ Finance stand point?
-
I have had pappa johns pizza because of this protest. This protest isn't worth it. Granted the nfl was a great way to get customers in their stores but pappa johns thinks its more important to protest then make money though the advertisement of their stores
-
Their pizza tastes like cardboard.
-
I never had Papa Johns pizza, is it good ?
It is. Use to be my favorite. But we got a Papa Murphy's and they are my favorite now.
-
Oops, I was thinking Papa Murphy's. It isn't bad, but there are many pizza places that are a lot better.

Colin Kapernick stated back in August that""I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media."
So he has NO RESPECT or pride in the flag, which means he has no respect for the country that gave him plenty of opportunities, and he flubbed it with football. His adopted parents are white, yet he rails against who? White people? Guess he forgot about Affirmative Action. Guess he forgot that we are a country of law and [supposedly] order and all juries are made of their peers. I don't see him protesting against black-on-black murders. He did not protest Baltimore wherein there were 3 blacks police officers and 3 white police officers on trial for murder...and which the juries acquitted. No? But he did protest In reality, he protests only when white police officers are involved. That's prejudice. Adrenalin is rough to keep in check when confronted by threats and/or assaults and some react too quickly, but I guess that's because they don't want to end up 6 feet under.
You all may not agree with me, but IMHO, this is the way many folks see it. Notice that he doesn't blame himself for being a mediocre player and can't be picked up by the good team, just like everyone else who wants to place blame on everyone but themselves for their own shortcomings. Live and learn, Colin. Maybe some day you'll grow up.
-
i think its all just bad,,good pizza though....
-
Something in there just made me curious. The players and the owners got greedy? Since the beginning of time those to sets of individuals have been on opposite sides of the financial issue.
-
I don't watch football but it is about respect here.
-
Ive never ate his pizza is it any good? Little Caesars are too sweet for me. Don't know if its because I'm diabetic or not
-
I think that is really dumb. I don't think the majority of people eating pizza think that far ahead to boycott a pizza place because of the nfl.
-
oh wow i didn't even know that was an issue!
-
I respect him for doing that.
Now I am hungry for pizza, but then I am always hungry for pizza! :)
:rose:
-
I like their pizza but I am on a diary free diet so I can't have pizza anymore. I use to eat pizza a lot but there is a good chance I might not be eating it again. :-\
-
I wish people would just leave business separate from politics! People just want live normal lives to eat pizza & watch football!
