Title: 18 Billion for the Wall requested from Congress
Post by: Tresbn00 on January 06, 2018, 02:44:17 pm
But that is only if you read the news from twenty three news sources...Fox News does not have anything on the subject- I wonder why? The initial estimate provided by the president was four billion dollars and Mexico would pay for the wall. Mexico has made every assurance that they will not pay for the wall leaving us to wonder who will pay for that "big, beautiful wall". The Department of Homeland Security would prefer thirty three billion on border spending with an additional fifteen billion spent on technology. Didn't we narrowly avert a government shut down due to finances within the last month? The senate would need sixty votes to get this approved so this will not pass as easily as the tax bill being approved by one party. The president has threatened to shut down the deferred action for children arrivals if the funding is not approved in order to get the dissenting party to provide the additional nine votes needed. Sadly, the dissenting party is probably ignorant enough to trust in a promise made by the president.

There are several ways of getting Mexico to carry some of the cost, like taxing all monies going south  from  workers here in the States, charging  some for  the those coming into the States across the border,  taxing  some on all goods  coming into this country like Mexico does us.  If we are not paying for the illegals who are here we can use that money to help. I think Trump will get the wall built. President Trump has already done a lot more for  our country  in one year than Obama did in 8 years. But the sad thing is a lot of people  won't  give President Trump a chance.  There are plenty of us who gave Obama a chance 8 years of it and it cost us a lot. So be fair  and do the same for Trump.

Illegals do not belong in our country just like we illegally do not belong in their countries, something needs to be done, why should we suffer because they do not do right in their own lands,do not try but flee ? Put in the effort !!! Tax everything Mexican that involves us,Take all but  minimum monies from illegals too and toss them back to where ever.

I don't care about their families either, not like they care about us. Send a statement: Stay where you are and fight for it,suffer to succeed in your own land.

They should hire poor people to build it.At least the money could serve a good purpose so the hungry could eat.

What a waste of 18 billion dollars should there is a cheaper solution.  That money could feed a lot of homeless people

The annual cost of illegals is over 100 billion a year...  by comparison the wall will be paid for in saving in just one month.

There needs to be comprehensive immigration reform, the wall needs to be a part of a much bigger overhaul.
Amnesty was given by President Reagan & it turned California blue & now we are a sanctuary state... & have the same problems we had decades ago.   Can't have a welfare state with open borders, it's why CA debt is over 1.3 Trillion despite having like the 6th largest GDP in the world.

I wonder why you couldn't find any news on the cost from Fox. i found at least one story from FOX as far back as February 2017. I didn't search earlier than 2017 but there are probably plenty of other Fox stories. The House passed a massive spending bill in July that included a $1.6 billion down payment for the construction of the border wall. It will be built in 3 phases and not along the whole border. There are some places along the border that are okay and only need a little repair/maintenance.

This is how a lot of people have been misinformed through certain news media. i also agree with Vickysue.

I just wonder whatever happened to the money that was allocated to build the wall back in the '80s-'90s. There was a compromise back then that set money aside for the wall IF amnesty was given to the illegal immigrants. Amnesty was given but the money was never released for the wall. in fact, the wall and mass deportations aren't new. They are the very policies initiated by Bill Clinton in the 1990s for border militarization and mass deportations also enthusiastically done Obama.

We cannot afford to allow amnesty again. The wall has to be built, especially in the sections where the fence ends and immigrants can walk across the border without climbing or digging tunnels to come here. The wall will cost less in the long run than hiring thousands of new CBPs to patrol the border.

We need the wall. Doesn't matter what the cost. Or we need some back bone and when we catch illegals here put them in a prison camp sentencing them to HARD labor that will likely kill them. Do like the do in NK and I bet this problem would stop.

I'm certainly in agreement w/ improved border security.  I just don't think a wall is going to work.

i can think of many more things to do with that kind of money.  You can't put up a wall surrounding  all of Mexico and they will find a way in no matter what.  Lets help our people who are here in our country. 18 billion could go a long way to help people in America,,,,  !!!

can one guarantee the 18 billion would not be used by illegal trash  in this country if not used for the wall ?   Maybe we need a system of concentration camps for illegals where they will work  for minimum wage so they can pay to be deported. as they eat bread and water, then they can be sent back on their own dime, either that or some truly final solution ?

$18 billion only equates to 0.44% of the ANNUAL US Budget. This would also be a one time expense. This is peanuts compared to other needless spending.

Perhaps we could get the money from the lawyer that arranged the one hundred and thirty thousand dollar payment to former adult film star, Stormy Daniels, in order to preclude her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump? Stormy Daniels would have been the number one legacy defining scandal since Nixon but will be forgotten by tomorrow...along with insults to Germany, Pakistan, China, Haiti, Africa, Muslims, nineteen women who have alleged sexual misconduct, people of color, Women's private areas, his own political party, and Melania to name a few.  All this and he has managed to golf more than any other president in United States history. I agree with those that state that he has gotten so much accomplished in the last year.

I agree with those talking about how much we could use that money to help the unfortunate in our country.  I don't believe for a minute the wall will stop those who want to come in from getting in.   Just think it's a show.
