Do you eat the end pieces of bread? I always liked them so no one in my family had to worry about them. Do you call them "end" pieces? My mom & grandma called them the "heel" of the bread lol. I still eat them. In fact ate one this morning out of my loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. I do like them but I also am adverse to wasting anything that can be used.

I call them 'heels' and I do eat them (I hate to waste anything) :monkey: :monkey: :monkey:
-
We would call it the heel. And we enjoyed them!
-
I hate them, and only leave them in the bread bag to keep the rest of the bread moist, not sure I call them anything
-
No I don't. It's too tough. I have made grilled cheese with them but only like twice because I was desperate.
-
Hubby loves them, not me!
-
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. But I am the only one in my family who WILL eat them. Today I made a baloney sandwich to take with me to work and just finished eating it. It was made from two end pieces of bread - the last piece from our prior loaf and the first piece of our current loaf. BOTH were starting to turn stale and it was very dry. But a stale and dry sammich is better than no sammich at all.

We call them heels to but it depends on the type of bread. Eat them most of the type except with white bread
-
I take whatever I don't eat and give it to the wild animals in my area(feeds them and reduces garbage)
-
I do not like the ends of the bread. We have a lake in our backyard and I feed them to the fish. Sometimes there are some ducks out there and they also eat the bread.
-
I've always called them the "heel". I've never cared for them, not sure why but my husband always eats them so they don't go to waste. It's the same as the rest of the bread so not sure why I don't eat them.
-
I call them the end. But never ate it.
-
I don't eat them. I call them the ends of the bread.
My kids and the boyfriend will eat them thou.
Now if you have some fresh made bread I have no problem eating then end
-
In my family we usually toss it in the trash or my parents eats them for breakfast.
-
I called them the "Heels" of the loaf of bread. I especially like the heels of the 12 grain bread we get. Toasted is best.
-
I call them end pieces and heel pieces. I do eat them. I love to toast them in the toaster, then add butter with toppings like jelly, peanut butter. Sometimes the end pieces taste better the center pieces! :P :P :P :P :P
-
i call them the end or crust pieces...i love the end pieces
-
Yes, I do eat them. The end pieces taste the same as the other slices.
-
If I want toast I will eat them, otherwise I throw in a bag in the freezer to take to the park for the birds.

My great-grandma: "Don't eat the end pieces of bread. They cause brain disease."
My mom: Your great-grandma was probably wrong. After all, she fed the end pieces of bread to the dogs, and they never developed brain diseases. It's okay to eat the end pieces of bread when you start and finish a loaf.
Me: Sometimes the end pieces taste extra good; sometimes they're burnt and inedible - it depends on the type of bread and the individual loaf. They're smaller, so you might still be hungry after using two of them to make a sandwich.
My dad: Loves to eat end pieces. "Give me the ends!" "I'll take the end pieces." "Save the end pieces for me." Used to justify this attitude with the idea that no one else wants the end pieces. That's not true - he simply wants them all for himself!
Enjoy your end pieces everyone! Have a wonderful day!

The end pieces of bread are the best. Why?
You toast them...they do not crumble.
Because they are stronger, they do not break.
Apply butter, peanut butter or any other spread.
-
I buy good bread and eat the heals. I hate to waste. Good bread is pricey, but a treat and a nutrition help.
I used the "heel" this morning to have my coconut oil spread on for breakfast. it tasted great.
:rose:
-
P.S. If you make your own bread crumbs, they work great. So you would have an excuse to let them get stale
They do help the rest of the bread stay fresh longer too.
:rose:.
-
Depends. Not all heel pieces are equal.
-
I call them coolies and I don't eat them . I let them sit out and get hard then give them to the dog as a treat
-
I've heard them referred to both heels and ends. I use em' in our household but usually only one. I'll take the heel from the last loaf and a full piece from the newest loaf. The first loaf is always used as a barrier to keep the inside pieces fresh. I've even used the heels for grilled cheese. Want not waste not!
-
I love making grilled cheeses out of the end pieces of bread. It tastes so toasty and buttery, not soggy like the middle pieces get. :)
-
I always eat them and I call them the heels too
-
I have never ate the ends of the bread. I always throw those away. The crust of the bread is not my favorite and that would be like eating all crust.
-
We call it the heel and nobody really likes to eat them. Sometimes it gets thrown out if no recipe calls for bread pieces just because they sit there unwanted and get stale.
-
I like the heels if I am having an open faced sandwich or just a piece with avocado or something like that.
I don't like the heels as part of a sandwich, I like a consistent texture between the two slices.
-
Yes we call it the heel of the bread also, and I never eat them.
-
i dont really care for the end pieces and usually just eat them by themselves
-
I always eat them for toast. Put extra butter on them they are great. Hubby doesn't like them. But if push comes to shove and I have not been to the store he will eat them and he also puts a lot of butter on them plus homemade jelly on them. But it has to be down to the last pieces for him to do it.
-
used to never like them,,,, but now that i am older I use them for toast or half a sandwich ,,, hate to just toss it out
-
I usually will eat them if that is all that is left in the bag, but not my first choice when selecting slices for a grilled cheese sandwich.
-
It's just another piece of bread to me and always gets eaten. This topic made me grin, because I remember that my step-dad always called them the 'TOOTS'.
-
I call them the end pieces and like someone else I leave them in with the bread till it is finished. Sometimes I will eat them with some soup but most of the time they are fed to the birds or just get thrown out.
-
we call them heels as well but i dont eat them
-
I have always called them the heel. I don't usually eat them unless it is all that is left. My husband will eat them though.
-
We call them the heal, they make great grilled cheese, you just put the uncut side on the inside where the cheese goes.
-
I eat the heels. They're just pieces of bread to me.
-
We always called them heels also and, I usually don't eat them. Sometimes, I set them out to dry for bread crumbs or I just toss them.
-
I called them the "Heels" of the loaf of bread. I especially like the heels of the 12 grain bread we get. Toasted is best.
Haha That's what my mom and dad call them
-
haha nooo I just wait for my husband to eat them
