I don't. I need to get out of this habit, but I can admit that I do this.
-
I do. Why waste water you don't need.
-
OMG that drives me crazy when I hear my son running the water while brushing his teeth or shaving UGH....I ALWAYS shut the water off while brushing my teeth !!
-
I've always turned the water off while brushing my teeth. It's not so much wasting the water it's the noise sometimes drives me a bit crazy that early in the morning. :) :) :) :) :)
-
Yes, I do. I don't like wasting water.
-
This is something I had to think about. I kind of do both. I let it run, get the brush wet and let it run while I'm spitting - while it's running and I'm brushing with one hand; I use the other hand to rinse out the sink up. Upon final spit I then turn the water off. Guess I've sort of got a system to how I brush my teeth.
-
a little of both i guess..i wear partials so while i'm brushing my teeth im rinsing the partial dentures off from the cleaner...
-
Yes, I also save water in the shower.
-
I don't but I need to because for one thing I now have a water bill and it all adds up. I recently moved from somewhere I had a well and I am sure that impacted the electric but I didn't have a water bill coming in each month. Plus it is a waste. Thanks for the reminder I am going to start trying to break that habit.
-
Yes I do! I never understood why people need to have it on.
-
Yes, I do turn the water off. I don't want to waste water.
-
No, I know I should but I just don't.
-
I'm glad that the majority of people on FC are saving water. I'm so proud of you! :highfive:
One thing that really brings it home is if you see how people live in other countries with so little water. I was in Costa Rica for a senior project as a student and the water was critically rationed. It really makes you think.
People have been fighting over water rights almost since time began and it can be really frightening if you think about it. What would we do if we ran out? :-\
:fish:
-
No, I don't but I should get into the habit of doing it. I brush my teeth in the shower a lot too so the water is always running there. lol
-
To be honest, no I don’t. I should get into the habit of turning it off.
-
How to brush your teeth:
Step 0. Floss before you brush. (You don't have to floss first; dentists say that either before or after is fine as long as you remember to floss, but I like to floss before I brush because some foods, like apples and celery, leave large pieces stuck to your teeth and it's easier to take them out before brushing.)
Step 1. Turn on water. Rinse toothbrush in water (soak the bristles). Turn off water.
Step 2. Apply toothpaste to toothbrush bristles. I only use a little bit. My mom says you're supposed to use a string bean size as an adult, but I still use a pea size because larger amounts of terrible-tasting toothpaste making brushing an unbearable experience.
Step 3. Scrub teeth for 2 minutes. Make sure you brush all sides of the tooth.
Step 4. Spit out toothpaste. Turn on water. Rinse toothbrush and mouth. Turn off water.
You shouldn't run water for longer than 1 minute each time you brush your teeth.
-
I just let it run slowly while I wash my face and brush my teeth. I don't see myself changing.
-
I don't leave the water on when brushing my teeth. I'll only leave it on if I'm washing my face and need the running water right away. I used to leave it on, glad I broke that habit.
-
I brush my teeth for such a long time and if I didn't my water bill would be sky high. I spend a lot of times on my teeth because of cavities.
-
Are used to do it all the time. Don't remember why I stopped. It is something that I should definitely try doing again. Why waste the water. :rainbow: :peace: :snowflake:
-
I have a cup to fill up with water, don't keep the water running, that's a waste.
-
I turn off the water. I was always taught to as a kid, and I think there was even a song on some kids show I used to watch about not letting the water run while you brush your teeth. It worked so well on me that even when I do turn on the water I put it at a trickle.
-
There are EXTREME water shortages in our town because of defective pipes. Our first 1,000 of gallons of water a month is $90. Every gallon over is extra. NO WAY do I leave the water running.
-
Every once in a while I do if I'm trying to be really quiet but normally I don't.
-
Yes. I do turn off the water when I brush my teeth.
Here in California we always seem to be in a drought, so that is just one way to help out a little. :)
-
i try and remember to do this to save water
-
Yes I do. I hate wasting water or anything for that matter.
-
Back then No, I just let it run till it has hot water then I turn it off.
-
Yes I turn the water off when I brush my teeth. I have running when I spit and rinse out my toothbrush.
-
I remember to turn it off for teeth brushing. My bad one is always turning the hot water on and I could use cold for what I am doing.
-
most of the time yes
-
I do not turn the water off because I have to use warm water. It takes me a while to get it at the right temperature so I don't want to turn it off til I'm done. I do turn it down, so it isn't running as hard but not off.
-
I let the water run slow while I brush my teeth. I rinse the toothbrush, add the toothpaste and then brush. Then I spit and rinse out my mouth. I can't leave the toothpaste in too long because I will gag.
-
Yes we turn it off here.
-
uhhh no,,, even tho I know I should. Don't know why I do't. Maybe I just like to hear it running. It isn't on full blast just enough to rinse the toothbrush off LOL
-
No, bad habit but trying to stop it.
-
I usually fill up a small dixie cup with water. I don't let the water run while I'm brushing my teeth.
My hubby always brushes his teeth in the shower.
-
Yes...I try to conserve water whenever possible. Why let run when you dont need/use water?
-
nope i always turn water off,,,,,
-
Yes, I turn the water off because it's a waste of water.
-
yeah i do, it is such a simple thing to do to help conserve water
-
Always. Water is the most important resource on earth. We cannot waste it.
-
I do. It feels weird to waste the water
-
I do. My husband is hypervigilant about wasted water, electricity, recycling, etc.
-
No I don't, I guess I should try to.
-
Are any of you such hardcore water conservers that you drink your own urine ? I had a quarter of a whole gallon of milk once and had to go bad then I got really thirsty so,but then you have to gargle with mouthwash, but it wasn't bad.Not a turn on like a golden shower can be but not the worst taste.
-
Yes. I fill a bathroom cup with water to rinse my mouth out so when I dab the toothpaste with a little water, I shut it off afterwards. I brush my teeth for a timed 3min and there is no way I am running water for that whole time. I turn it back on to rise out the toothbrush (of course) but other than that, I don't let it run.
-
I always keep water running but I am lucky that water is part of our rent. We have all utilities included including 120 channel cable, pool. and internet.
-
I turn off the water when I brush my teeth. :pumpkin:
-
I do, and while shaving too  8)
-
I always keep water running but I am lucky that water is part of our rent. We have all utilities included including 120 channel cable, pool. and internet. Ppl like you always get your rents raised regularly because even the owners get the water bills and get annoyed when tenants go crazy on their dime. I've known ppl who have tried to sneak in exta ppl to help with rent, washing machines... Owners always notice the water bill stats they get because it comes out of their pocket and if abused they get ya.
-
You really should break this habit. I usually turn off the water when brushing my teeth. We are experiencing water shortage and wasting resources is bad karma. There are people in poorer countries who don’t have access to clean water. They often have to walk long distances just to obtain water for their daily use.
-
I usually turn the water off while brushing.
-
I only turn on the water when I need to rinse.
-
always, been doing that for years.... :peace:
-
Yes, because our DWP utility bill is very expensive to waste water.
-
I started shutting it off while brushing my teeth about a year ago.
-
I try to remember to do this, so as not to waste water but I admit I am guilty more time then not of leaving it running; will try to do better1
-
I do.I am afraid to get the bill every month.
-
Yes, I do. There is a lot of water being wasted and also I hate paying big water bills.
-
Yes, I do it now but back then I did not during middle school /kid.
-
Yes; it saves water.
-
Yes, but mostly because my sink is sluggish...often.
Time to buy Drano.
:rose:
-
To save water, Definitely Yes!
-
Of course. It saves water.
-
I fill a cup with water, wet the brush, apply the toothpaste and brush/floss and rinse. No need to have water running constantly for that.
-
no i do not
-
I usually fill a small cup when I brush my teeth. I never leave the water running.
My hubby always brushes his teeth while he is in the shower and the water is running anyway.
-
Yes I do turn off the water when I brush my teeth. I try to conserve any way I can. :female: :female: :female:
-
Yes. I try to conserve and save wherever possible. Running water not being used is wasted water. Lights left on when no one is in the room is a waste of energy.
-
I turn off the water and I am always telling my kids to do the same too. I don't like the idea of wasting water and I also do not want to have an expensive water bill. I like to save.
-
I turn the water off while brushing my teeth. I started doing it when I was younger because I didn't want to waste the water now I do it because of the noise.
-
Yes I do.
-
NO I must admit that I don't.... it's a bad habit... I definitely waste water often :-\ ::)
-
Yes, I do turn off the water when I brush my teeth.
-
Yep I do! Why waste the water? I also try to take short showers to conserve even though we are on a well system.
-
I turn it off to save water i find it wasteful just to let it keep going without no purpose behind that
-
I'm trying to get rid of that habit. Oops.
-
Yes, I do. I pay to use water so I take care in turning it off when brushing my teeth.
-
I always do,trying to lower my bill.
-
I kill two birds with one stone and brush in the shower
-
Yes I do. Every time I turn on the water in my bathroom to wash my face or brush my teeth I think of all the people in Africa and Puerto Rico who struggle all the time to get clean safe water for their households and how wasteful of water it would be for me to just let my faucet run and run for no reason. Then I often think that it would be wonderful if I could somehow get some of my water to these people who need it so desperately.
-
Yes I certainly do.
-
Yes I do, our water is so expensive here. They wanted to raise the cost and were voted down, so they just cut the usage of our water by 2000 gallons so every bit counts now. In fact I will no longer have a garden because of it . And we didn't
waste water on it. we used a drip system on a timer. Some people here have their lawn sprinklers on timers and they are going when it is very windy or raining, just because they want the beautiful lawns. Sure I would like ours lusher, but with a draught it is not right to waste so much. So I water ours 15 minutes and then move the sprinkler to another spot. that is all it needs to stay slightly green and alive. Sure it takes longer but uses less water. they will leave their sprinklers on for hours for a large lawn.
