I went to get gas and noticed that the safety seal wasn't present, so I paid on the inside. Be careful because crooks can place card skimmers in the gas pump and you information along with others can be stolen.
-
Great catch, you can't be too careful.
-
Thank you for that reminder.
-
Good that you noticed that. It was just on the news last night about being aware of your surroundings and they talked about gas station skimmers too.
-
It was televised a couple of days ago via local news and national news that skimmers are now hacking in at gas stations to get your card info. Be careful.
-
These crooks have used technology to their advantage ::) and now can steal your card info without even using a skimmer. They just have to be in the same vicinity where your card is being used in order to get your card info.

 :star:  I heard about this the other day. As of today I haven't seen a safety sticker on a gas pump. Every time I go to the gas pump they don't have stickers! Maybe now its a new safety for gas stations? :star:

UGH. Thanks for the heads up. So glad these people use their minds for GOOD reasons- Sarcasm.....

yes, I have heard of this happening - be alert!

I always pay inside
-
I always pay inside so I can use my 5% discount code.
-
Don't really pay attention to a seal at the tank, but will from now on.
-
I don't know how other stations are, my daughter has a BP station. If someone tries to mess with the pumps they will automatically shut down and she has to call the company to restart them.
-
Also if u go inside...Lock your doors.Crooks will see if u left any valuables and *bleep* them while U r inside.

That was a good catch I don't eve know where the safety seal is but I get gift cards for the gas station and that is all I ever use. Every few weeks my grocer has them $10 off a $50 card and so I save money and feel safer at the pump.

Nice discount, I will watch for those.

and.. that's where it starts, ::). I found a gas station stated they reg gas at $2.99 I haven't seen that in a while.
-
Wow, I wasn't even aware that this was even possible. Well, in a way, I am not all that surprised. Some bad apples will go through any lengths to make money illegally. Thank you for the heads up, OP!
-
Some peoples full time job is looking to rip others off. It was good of you to be so observant and I'm sure it saved you the headache of getting your identity stolen.
-
Good Advice!!! The only time my credit card was fraudulently used was when my credit card number was stolen at the pump. It was unbelievable how many charges were charged on my card for gas at that Chevron gas station before I got notification from my credit card company.
-
Since it been on the news about the ATM's in our area having this problem I hate using my debit or credit card so I have been trying to watch each machine I use them at. Quit using the ATM's except on my own bank which is rare

What is a safety seal? It is easy to tell if there is a skimmer on the gas pump. Just pull on the thing where you insert your card. If there is a skimmer then it will come off in your hand. If that happens I would call the police. If you notify the attendants inside they will do nothing and may have been the ones to put it on there.

They have to get within so many feet of you. That is why you need a wallet with the RDIF or whatever it is protection. I have that. I had a foreigner at Walmart that got right up next to me several times ( I had this protective wallet ) but I swear that is what I think he was doing. I almost told him I had that so he needed to go brush up against somebody else. SMH.

And keep an eye on your credit card all the time!
-
Oh, no! Scammers every place you go. Be careful!
-
Thanks for the heads up.
-
Glad you caught it. I always tug on the card reader a bit now before putting my card into it. Can't trust anyone anymore.
-
This is becoming a bigger problem everyday.
-
i never pay attention and always use my debit card
-
i go in and use my card

Thieves are everywhere. I must be more observant when I pump my gas. I've seen the security tape on the pump, but never paid attention.
I like your solution, debidoo. Less chance of anyone stealing from you, plus you get a great discount.

There has been a few stories on our local news about this happening in our area. Be very careful!!
-
Yes, we all need to be on alert. I had my debit card and number stolen a couple months ago. I was charged for $734 I had not purchased for.
Fortunately, my credit union got right on it, and helped me. Immediately, after I left the credit union, another woman walked in and had been charged the exact same amount by the same company.
It was not the company (but suspect it was a disgruntled employee), and it was a mess. 8 people at my credit union got hit, before they closed off that company till this was cleared up.
Be very careful, it can get so ugly so quickly.

One gas station in our area was hit TWICE, so watch out. The thieves have hit at least 5 different gas stations in this area. Usually they're hitting smaller stations in small towns thinking we're not smart enough to find this skimmer thingie but it's been the attendants that have found them before any injury to patrons.
-
Thanks for the info. You cant be too careful anymore
-
yes at gas stations you never want to use debit at pump. People can still your info so fast.
-
i have not heard about this. How can you tell if the safety seal is present

great idea. I think I will try doing that too.
-
I remembered that was in a news a while ago

Crooks are getting smarter and smarter these Days. I pray for all those that it has happened to. :monkey:

Good thing you noticed, who knows if a skimmer was in or not, but better safe than sorry.
