The pastor had a series on things that are not talked about in church, like same sex marriage, mental illness, discrimination, abortion, molestation. I was so glad that he spoke on these topics. To sit in a church where almost everyone could relate to one of the topics because they know of someone dealing with one of the issues.
No matter what we look like on the outside, we are all the same...HUMANS.

A lot of preachers will not preach the truth any more because they don't want to offend anyone. The BIBLE, GOD'S WORD says same sex marriage is WRONG. Believe it or don't. God says it is an abomination. Our preacher preaches the Word and if that offends you then too bad. He isn't mean or judgmental but he does preach what the Bible says.

Church can be tough because we're such a divided nation. Bring up politics: You'll probably offend half the church. One time at my choice, the pastor brought up our "enemies overseas," and I was offended because I found it to be divisive language. But, these topics are very relevant for today and should absolutely be at the forefront of church discussions. Pastors just need to find a way to bring attention to these topics without offending people, which is a lot easier said than done. Lol

It makes my heart hurt to hear someone say this because the Catholic church has been such a foundation and source of strength in my life. Please know that I don't say this to be judgmental (which is often a factor in how/why someone has strayed away from the Church). I know that many people have been hurt by other people, but I believe that the church itself is still the same rock that it was 2000 years ago.
I wish you all the best, tantricia - even if that means a break from the church for a while. Just remember that God still loves you and will always welcome you back with open arms.

There is no way to do that. No matter what you say somebody is going to be butthurt or offended. Our pastor does not preach about politics. As for our church mostly everyone was on the same side in the presidential election. May have been a few that weren't but no where near half the church.

Put pastor doesn't leave anything out. But he is very careful not to intimidate or be unkind. He just states it as the Bible does :angel11:

Our pastor discuss all these things in church and we are use to it. It's plenty of things people will get offended about so some tune it out and others heed what's being said.

Jesus wasnt afraid to speak out to the Pharissees when they taught manmade or Satanic doctrines.
Jesus said his true followers would worship God with spirit and truth and have love among themselves. He said to compare it with a tree that produces good fruit or rotten fruit. He also stressed the main theme of the bible...Gods kingdom or government and taught his followers to teach and preach it.

I haven't gone to Church in a number of years. I still pray and give thanks everyday sometimes many times in a day. I stopped going to my church because the pastor doesn't know how to keep his mouth closed when discussing a private issue with one of the congregants.

exactly.

You don't talk about other members, but it happens and the only conversation should be in prayer among believers. I go to church on holidays, special occasions. I've been to a church that talks about sex, marriage and racism.

Unfortunately politics has taken over the main conversation at my church and I don't agree with their political philosophy. So much so that I am thinking about looking for a new home church. I hate to since I have been a member since 1993 and loved my little country church until this past presidential election, that is.

If a church is really a bible-believing/based church, it is not the church preaching against these things....it is the Word of God.
God didn't make rules to make us angry, but show us how we should live to get His blessing, a safer and happier life.
We all have had things that the Bible teaches against, but the "Left", "liberals" have determined what is correct or sanctioned. Who made them boss? Final authority? They authorize each other....what a set up, ha!
Only the One who made us has the right to tell us not to do our own thing wantonly. I always knew in my heart certain things were not right, but being raised in a god-less home, I was confused by it all......till someone gave me a Bible, and showed me where to start reading.
39 years ago, and so very grateful I did.

A church I went to a few years ago the pastor was 100% against obama but would not say that because he didn't want to offend a very strong dumocrat that went to church there that also gave a lot of money. He would say from the pulpit stuff about other political people and the president before him he didn't care to slam presidential candidates. lol.never have a phone in church is disrespect
What does phones have to do with the conversation. And no it is not disrespect. A lot of people have a Bible they use on their phone. And I also video and take pictures of things for the church using my phone.
Now sitting there texting while people are singing or the preaching is going on is disrespectful but not every one who has a phone is texting.
