I have received several gifts from my 2 best friends (we exchange birthdays and Christmas). Some of the gifts are for the house (candle holder, knick knacks, figurines, etc). They are nice and I honestly like them and love the people who gave them. My question is how long must i display them? I hate to put them away, but I bought other things I want to display Is a year long enough?

If you want to put them away when you've had them for a while it couldn't hurt, they shouldn't expect you to always have them displayed every time they come over for a visit.
-
I think a year should be long enough. And I am sure they have seen them out when visiting.
-
Its OK to put the away for a little while. What I do is to find another spot to display this nice things in like a cabinet with glass so that way they can be seen
-
What I usually try to do is put stuff like that away after a year, but break it out for the gift giver to see when they visit after that time. For example, my daughter gave me a lovely bracelet for my birthday years ago, so I always try to remember to put it on when she comes to visit or when I visit her.

I don't change my decor often so if I put something it stays for a long time, maybe you could just put it in a different room.

Display them as long or as short of a time as you'd like. If they get offended just tell them you intend to bring it back out again; it's not buried forever lol

It's your place, re-decorate when the mood hits you!
-
I change things around often, so anyone who is close knows that they are just put up for awhile of in a different location.

Id keep the candle holders out yr round.Never know when power goes out.Unless of course if u have a generator.
-
I keep mine out of a long time it gets moved when I have to wash it, maybe you sit it in another place.

I have gifts like that , but i switch stuff allot so no one thinks about it , i think a year is plenty time

I've been the same for many years- my house remained the same for the whole time I was there. Now I find myself refreshing my decor every other season by adding new pics or pillows or relocating decor items, so I found your suggestion to be a great idea.

You can rotate your decor around through the year... we do that with some of our art pieces that hang on the wall -- my mother was an artist so we have a bunch of paintings.
I think a year is plenty of time, or even six months out... then switch it like a seasonal decor piece & bring it back out eventually.

I don't change things around in my house very much. I sometimes move things around to different places, but I like most of what I have so it usually stays out.
-
I would say one year is long enough.Maybe 6 months is good.
-
I put them away for a little while then I take them out when the company comes out
-
I rotate things all the time. So if someone notices I'm not displaying their gift, I just tell the truth: I rotate.

I think you are entitled to display house decor gift items for as long as you choose. It is your home.
Friends and family have good intentions when giving decor pieces as gifts, but that shouldn't obligate you to have to display them.
Sounds like your friends have tastes similar to yours. You said you like the pieces and love the givers so that works out nicely for you to proudly display the items.
Sometimes, however, as in the case with my parents whenever they received something from one of us kids (adult), Mom felt obligated to display it forever even if it made her house look cluttered or she didn't like it.
I like the suggestions presented in the thread so far that suggest rotating items on display with seasons or even changing locations.

hey we all the time changing stuff around...they shouldnt expect to see it all the time...everyone changes decor from time to time
