I don't get enough sleep. My bed is not that comfortable and I get anxious knowing I have to wake up early in the morning for work. I hope I will sleep better on my new bed.

I think that everyone is of the belief that they never get enough sleep. Health professionals have been trained to tell us that everyone needs eight hours of sleep and ten glasses of water. Psychologists will tell you that you need less than an hour of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. I believe that my body, and mind can recover after five to six hours of sleep. I think that a person can train their body/mind to live on less sleep by simply programming your mind to accept lower amounts of sleep. Similar to taking daily steps in order to achieve a goal I set my alarm clock for one minute of sleep less every month for a year. I now go to bed between twelve and eleven and wake up between four and four thirty in the morning. I do thin Monday through Saturday and allow myself the luxury of an eight hour sleep on Sundays.

Nope I wake up way too much,  so the sleep I do get is not restful.

It depends on the night.  I haven't been sleeping well for about a month because I had total knee replacement on my right knee and it is hard to get comfortable.  Also, there are some nights that my two older grandsons stay up all night and they are very loud.

I think so. I sleep fairly well, but wake up kind of early. However, I can always stand to take a nap during the day if the opportunity presents itself.

And honestly, driving long distances always makes me really sleepy. I sometimes just yawn incessantly when I drive.

Nope.  I very rarely get enough sleep.  I usually wake up after 2 or 3 hrs and have trouble getting back to sleep.

With school and other life commitments, it's hard to sleep anymore. I'm lucky when I get 6 hours.

I never get enough sleep -- even when I get 12 hours. There was major drama at my boyfriend's house when I "dared" to take an hour and a half nap one afternoon. They saw it as a sign of weakness and thought something was medical wrong with me. Well ... there is ... I'm on multiple prescription medications, but there's no need to be mean to me about it.

I do get enough sleep, it's just that I find it heard to get out of bed.  I usually go to bed around 2 AM and get up about  10 am which makes my day a lot shorter to do anything.

There are a lot of health problems associated with
"not sleeping the minimum amount of recommended hours,
lack of midday napping or resting whenever necessary".

Some nights I lay awake in bed just thinking about my life for hours and cannot seem to get to sleep at all, but on other nights I fall right asleep and sleep the whole night. I can never tell which sort of night I am going to have when I hit the sack.

I usually stay asleep once I fall, but getting there is sometimes hard. I can spend a few hours trying to sleep if I don't take a bit of melatonin.

Not enough sleep, lack of sleep or reasonable rest-
  It is called: "Sleep Depravation".
It will negatively affect your health.

I don't think any of us do!  I get about 4-5 hours and no matter what wake up at 3-330 every day, fall sleep again, but I have to get up at 5 to get to work by 630.

I know they say you should sleep more but even on weekends my body is so used to waking up early that I cannot sleep late.  Always awake by 6 no matter what day of the week.

A resounding NO from my end. My work day (and school schedule) are extremely hectic. Oftentimes, I go to bed around 8 PM and wake up around 2 AM the next morning. Thankfully, I should be done with school by the end of this year, which would free up more time to sleep, relax, etc.

for a long time I was not sleeping,,,,  i would sleep maybe 2 hours  wake up,,,,   finally get back to sleep  then wake up 2 hours later,,,   it was horrible.  told my Dr abut it  and he sent me to a sleep Dr,,,  had a sleep study done..  Turned out I have sleep Apnea,,,,,  stopped breathing 54 times an hour,,,  not a good thing.     Year later,  I am now getting 6 to 8 hours every night  not tired through out the day.   more energy.  Thanks to my Cpap !!!!  Some people just refuse to  get a sleep study done and use a cpap,,,  its no biggie !!!!  it will save your life :)

I'm so good at sleep.  If I don't get enough I don't function very well.  And if I'm not at 100 % I will take a power nap if possible to I can power up.  I wish I didn't need 8-10 hours of sleep.  Some people only need 6 or 7 and they do greatl

I had a teacher in high school that only slept about 3-4 hours per night, he said any longer was a waste of precious time.
I think the amount of sleep we get is part of your mindset and what your body is used to. Once you change it, your perspectives change.

Seems like every night there is some new reason I don't get quite as much sleep as I'm trying to. I generally stay asleep once I fall, but it can take me a few hours to fall. Melatonin helps.

Most of the time I do get enough sleep. I've always been one that needs 9-10 hours of sleep to function.  I can still function pretty darn well off 8 now.  Any less than that I find myself needing naps.  Which if time allows power naps are enough to get me through.  Lately though my daughter has been setting her alarm for 5:30 a.m.  Than presses snooze for 2 1/2 hours.  Now that's interrupted sleep I've not dealt with well.

I do not base my answer to "do you get enough sleep" on what some health care person says. I base it on how I feel.  Sometimes I do.  Sometimes I do not.

I do not believe you can program your mind to get by on less sleep.  When I was younger I could sleep 5 hours or so and be fine.  As I get older I do not do as well under those conditions.  Sometimes you do what you have to.  We have a local factory that at times forces their employees to work 16 hour shifts.  That leaves 8 hours of not working.  Factor in driving to and from work, eating, doing things you have to do, and they are getting 4-5 hours of sleep.  You do what you have to do.  They are not getting enough sleep but it doesn't mean their body will just shut down.

It does explain why there are random accidents sometimes resulting in death (no joke) but it is written off as something else or a freak accident.

Well that was about the 20th night in a row I couldn't sleep straight through the night for some unique reason! This time my dog woke me up at 1 having to go potty. One of these nights I'll get a solid 8 hours somehow.

A solid eight hour sleep has eluded me for so long, I lost track of it. What is surprising is, I can sleep more soundly during the morning hours.

I get sleep, but not rest. There is a difference. I have sleep apnea and have been having issues with shortness of breath that prevent me from using my cpap machine. I definitely notice the difference in my sleep as I feel more tired during the day despite getting 8 hours of sleep and sometimes more. I have had issues waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep despite being tired and taking a long time to fall asleep. I feel like I am lying in bed for 8 hours with my eyes closed and don't feel well rested and refreshed. I am going to a doctor now to try to help me so I hope I get better soon.

Yes, I think I do, I tend to sleep through the night; even when I wake up early morning, I can generally fall back to sleep for maybe an hour or two. I don't function well when I don't get enough sleep at night and I have never been much of a napper during the day.

No, I never get enough Sleep. If I go to Bed early, I wake up all during the Night. If I go to Bed on time or late, I still wake up at the same time and that is around 4 am.
