Don't forget that if you have a case of diarrhea :-[, you can stop it in its tracks with diluted Coke (any dark soda will do). Half Coke and half water does the trick. Try it next time you're in dire straits.

I never drink soda pop of any kind. too me it taste like cough syupe. Besides it is not good for a person. The last time I drank a coke it made me sick, but of course taking cough med also. Boy I learned lesson about how bad it is for you.

Good to know. :) :) :)

Then why doesn't drinking a glass of coke cure it as well? Double strength meds there. lol
-
I wonder why that would work but I'm out of luck because I never have it in the house

It just doesn't. It's not recommended to drink regular soda with diarrhea. Don't know why dilution works. I don't even remember where I heard of it, but it's worked well for me and for others I've told about it.

You're totally right about it not being good for you. As a matter of fact, drinking soda can be quite harmful the way some people drink it; like all day long in copious quantities.
But one doesn't normally take meds on a regular basis, so if diluted Coke/dark soda works as a temporary remedy, I see no harm in trying it. Feel free to disregard my recommendation if you're not inclined to try it.

Great news ;D Would pepsi do it as well?
-
I have never heard this before. It is nice to know because I do have this problem quite often. I will try this the next time I have this problem.
-
I have never heard of this. Will have to try next time I am sick.
-
Interesting. I have no idea why diluting a Coke or other dark soda with water would alleviate diarrhea, but it would certainly not hurt to give it a try.
-
I saw this on the shelf but only in a 6 pack of the what ever is smaller than the 20 oz bottles. I would like to try it but not buy this much of it.

Look in the cooler for single bottles, but be prepared to pay more.

Can we use Diet Soda?

I don't like coke but they have a new orange flavor I might try

She did say in the original post:
(any dark soda will do)
... so I'd have to guess Yes.

I never let diet soda touch my lips so I cannot answer that for you, oldbuddy. Sorry. :-\
Perhaps you could try it if you have the need and let us know.

It is interesting to continually hear about all of the strange uses for Coke (and/or dark sodas) these days.
-
I rarely drink soda, but I think I will try it for diarrhea.
-
Thank God that I don't ever seem to have this problem but just in case, this info is good to know.
-
ginger ale cleans the stomach but the sugar is an issue
-
But...does it really work? Some sodas have so many dangerous chemicals
that I think it could make your upset digestive system even worse. So, other
alternatives may work better.

ginger ale cleans the stomach but the sugar is an issue
Canada Dry has a diet Ginger Ale without the sugar
-
i have never heard of that before. wonder why it works. i rarely drink soda so not sure if iwill have an occasion to try it .
thanks for the info :peace:

For me something like 7-Up,Sprite,Ginger ale helps out more then coke that's just me though.
-
Never heard this before but I don't drink coke or any sodas. I will only drink Ginger Ale or Sprite for an upset stomach.
-
I don't have coke but I do have Pepto Bismol.

All diet drinks are without sugar.

Those are excellent for an upset stomach but I'm specifically referencing diarrhea.
Do the clear sodas help you with diarrhea?

In reference to the original post I might be inclined to try a watered-down Coke because it would help with dehydration. However, drinking Ginger Ale, 7-Up, Sprite, (clear soft drinks) for an upset stomach does work. That's what my mom always did.
Here's a quote from LiveSTRONG.com:
Studies aside, ginger root has been used medicinally in teas and powdered medicine for more than 2,000 years in China and India, where it is frequently prescribed as a digestive aid and remedy for upset stomach, diarrhea and nausea. Ginger ales made using real ginger may also have a beneficial effect on these conditions.
As a reliably lighter beverage than other soft drinks, ginger ale offers the benefit of restoring fluids to the body during intense upset stomach spells that may lead to dehydration. Ginger ales made with real ginger have the added benefit of anti-emetic properties, reducing the urge to vomit.

Interesting...I had not heard of that but will keep it in mind for the future...thanks for sharing!

Honestly the only dark soda I can tolerate is diet Pesi and the latest 'this product causes cancer' claimed the dark coloring in all soda causes cancer. So I guess to cure diarrhea you run the risk of getting cancer.
-
I did not know this! Good to know!
-
Definitely worth a shot. Even if I have to get some.
-
Wow, that was good to know. I hate having an upset stomach so I would like to stop it right away if it happens. I rarely drink soda though and when I do, it's usually ginger ale.
-
:clover: :peace: :clover: That's a good idea to keep the runs away for as long as possible ;D I do tend to drink soda with ice and diluted ice. Which as long as you drink enough diluted ice with soda should help with this remedy. Thanks  :clover: :peace: :clover:

I don't know about that. I always drink dark pop and never had it help with diarrhea. I call it brown water when people ask what I'm drinking. It's always some kind of diet, caffeine free cola type pop.
-
I really do not drink coke or pepsi, there must be other ways to stop diarrhea, I prefer ginger ale...
-
Cool I'm pretty sure you can clean things with club soda.
-
I think it is just about any ark soda. Dr Pepper works too on upset stomach or diarrhea.
-
Hmm, interesting remedy for diarrhea. I am more of a green tea and Pepto Bismol girl, LOL. But thank you for sharing, OP.
-
Only thing i use coca cola for is to clean coins and toilet bowls. Pretty good for that to be honest . Wouldn't drink i though

Cool. Didn't know that. I don't drink coke or pepsi, but if strawberry Fanta works, I may keep some on hand
-
Coke is bad for you and your teeth.

Why dilute the coke? It would seem better if you used the whole strength to ensure it really works.
-
Never heard that one but I heard it will take corrosion off a car battery.

Do you dilute it? That was the gist of my advice.

This comment also happens to be true.
It will also kill rats if you put it in a bowl at the junkyard. I don't think any of these points negate my argument.

I don't know why it's necessary to dilute the Coke. If you use it full strength to help a case of diarrhea, let me know. I just don't think that way works.

Coke is bad for you and your teeth.
This is true. I don't expect you to drink it on a regular basis.
I am just suggesting it for temporary relief of diarrhea.
-

I don't think taking diluted soda for a temporary case of diarrhea puts you in any danger of getting cancer.
I am not in the habit of giving advice that I believe would harm anyone. :-X But if you think it would be harmful, by all means avoid doing it.

I don't think you, as a diabetic, should try the regular diluted Coke since it has sugar in it. That is unless, of course, your doctor or nurse says it's okay.
-
I wonder why that would work but I'm out of luck because I never have it in the house
I don't know why it works. If you don't have it in the house and you should happen to get a case of diarrhea, perhaps you could send someone out to get it for you, unless you'd rather spend the money for medication. Your call.
-
I don't have coke but I do have Pepto Bismol.
Pepto-Bismol made all of my kids throw up the instant they took it in their mouths.
Hope you have better luck with it than they did. And I didn't give it to them as a cure for diarrhea.
-
I've never heard of that before but I'm definitely going to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
