whatyou think of them paying people to help get their kids in college. felicity was arrested still looking for lori. don't thin they'll get jail time to rich and privileged for that.damn lori payed someone 500,000 gheeze in ca you may get a 1 bd home for that.

Not surprised, the wealthy think they can buy anything and are above the law. Nail time, never happen, probably just a slap on the wrist and a fine (like they can't afford that!)

Wasn't there a Full House episode where Lori Loughlin's character and her husband made up fake stories about their twin sons in effort to get them into an elite preschool program? Life imitates art. ::)

It is pretty sad. Do they even think of what happens when the kid cant do and it is obvious the kid shouldn't be there? This is really messed up on so many levels.

This is pretty sad and hurts children that really work to get into colleges. This tells me these parents have no confidence in their kids. Being rejected from colleges is part of the growing and learning process. You cannot get everything you want in life even with hard work.

This doesn't surprise me. But I wonder why William H. Macy (married to Huffman) is not being charged? From the transcripts I read, he seemed to be involved to a degree.

I think that they need to be held accountable for their actions. What they did was wrong and not fair to all the students who work hard to get into college. Exactly what are they teaching their kids about life.

Agreed; famous or not what they did was wrong and they should be punished.

The fact that they took away positions from universities for deserving kids means they should be in jail in my book.

Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin's husband Mossimo Giannulli are both released from custody after making their first court appearances in the massive college cheating scandal:
* Huffman, Loughlin, and Giannulli are among 50 people who have been accused of paying bribes to get their children into

* The Desperate Housewives star allegedly paid $15,000 to arrange for someone to secretly change her daughter's
answers during the SAT exam
* Loughlin and husband allegedly agreed to pay bribes of $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated
as recruits to USC crew
* Huffman was released on $250,000 bond and had to surrender her passport
* Giannulli was released on $1million bond, had to put up their house as collateral
Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin's husband Mossimo Giannulli have been released from custody after they were charged in a massive college admissions scandal.
Huffman and Giannulli are among 50 people, including Loughlin, who have been accused of paying bribes to get their children into America's top colleges.
The Desperate Housewives star was released on $250,000 bond on Tuesday.
Huffman allegedly paid $15,000, which she disguised as a charitable donation, to arrange for someone to change her daughter's answers during the SAT exams.
Charging documents state that both Huffman and her husband, actor William H Macy, agreed to the plan to help daughters Sofia, 18. They allegedly discussed using it again for their daughter Georgia, 16, but decided against it.
The scheme worked in several ways. First, parents would pay obtain a medical document which said their child needed extra time to complete either their SAT or ACT test. Once they got it, they would take the test in one of two centers that was controlled by the scheme's 'mastermind' Rick Singer. One was in Hollywood and one was in Texas.
Singer paid off Mark Riddell, a 'really smart' Florida college prep teacher who would fly to the test locations when a child was due to take it and either sit it for them or correct their answers once they had finished. The doctored tests were then sent on to be graded.
The second part of the scheme involved creating fake athlete profiles for kids to get them athletic scholarships to schools they would not have gotten into on their grades alone.
Singer allegedly had several sports coaches from various colleges around the US on his pay roll to facilitate this part of the scheme. Once the child got into their desired college based on the lie, the paid-off coaches then made excuses for why they were not showing up to practices including that they had become injured.
Macy, who was not charged, was in court on Tuesday to support his wife and sat in the front row. Authorities have not disclosed why he was not implicated in the scandal.
Huffman has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. A magistrate judge ordered the actress to restrict her travel to the continental US and she surrendered her passport to the court.
Seven Fbi agents showed up to Huffman's Hollywood Hills home at 6am on Tuesday, drew their weapons, and ordered the actress to come out and surrender.
Huffman, Macy, and their two daughters were asleep inside the home when the agents arrived.
One FBI source said that the guns were drawn as a precaution. Huffman was then taken to a federal building and processed by federal marshals.
Loughlin flew to Los Angeles from Canada on Tuesday afternoon and will surrender to authorities on Wednesday morning.
She has likewise been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud.
Loughlin and Giannulli allegedly paid $500,000 to get their daughters Olivia Jade, 19, and Isabella, 20, into the University of Southern California.
Sources said that FBI agents arrived at Loughlin's home on Tuesday morning, only to find out she was in Vancouver. They took Giannulli in custody.
Giannulli's bond was set at $1million, forcing him to put the family's primary residence up as collateral to guarantee the bond.
The designer also had to surrender his passport to the court.
Loughlin later turned herself in to investigators. She was released from custody after she posted $1million bail on Wednesday.

Certainly explains why truly qualified kids, with amazing academic/athletic records, have difficulties getting into these schools. I have a friend that started prepping his son's resume from the time he was born in order to be considered for Princeton. Another friend did not prep his son but, instead, managed to get involved in the same circles as many of the Harvard admissions employees.Both kids were accepted at the schools but chose to go elsewhere. My daughter was accepted, on merit, into every school she applied for. She was a valedictorian, tennis captain, DECA president, contributed to charities, in the band, spoke fluent chinese and was in every extracurricular activity possible. She ended up accepting a full ride at one of the top three engineering schools in the country. Thinking that money would not have bought anyone success at this school.

Whatever penalty they recieve, they deserve it. Jail-time does not seem unreasonable.

It also does not seem right that kids with very wealthy families. get into these same schools for making donations to the schools directly. That is legal to do, seems like the same difference to me..."I put the money up for a new school library, so my kids get a free pass." I just do not think that is right either. Entry should be on merit. The kids that are go getters seem to do well no matter which school they attend. The only people in the scandal that keep getting mentioned are the celebrities, there were a lot of not famous people involved too.

i guess i'm not really surprised by this but it definately makes me sick. some wealthy people think they can purchase an education for their child at the expense of deserving hardworking students.
i also feel sorry for the wealthy children because they either didn't know about it or understand how wrong this is on so many levels. :rainbow: :peace: :wave:

It's one thing if you want to make a genuine donation to the school but it shouldn't put you on the top of the list for exclusive perks such as this. Unfortunately this has been going on for a very long time.

Everyone wants to get in front of the line & not go through proper procedures.. it's become the American way, with immigration & with college admissions. Some people jump through all the hoops & wait in line, some people think they don't have to obey the rules & manipulate the system... all people are equal, but some are more equal than others.

The thing that is bothering me now is that they are acting like they are the victims. Also sounds like the kids are claiming no knowledge of the situation which I find hard to believe.

The whole situation is sad, but it seems funny to me that so many people act like this is some sort of surprise. This group and the leader of the deal just got caught. It has been going on probably forever. It seems to show how little confidence these people had in their own children's abilities.

I am honestly not surprised by this latest college admission scandal. It also seems to reflect negatively on the faith that these parents have in their children's ability to successfully attend (and even graduate from) college. I hope that the parents are dealt with swiftly.

It's rather pathetic when you have to go to these extremes to assure your kid gets into a school when he or she may not get in on their own merits. What do they say...money is the root of all evil! (So are a few other things!)

i don't know which one it was, but saw a clip yesterday of the one coming out of the courthouse. She seems to think it's a party. Smiling and signing autographs. Evidently, she doesn't think the charges are serious. Maybe she's right. The elites always get away with criminal activity because they are elites. It's sickening.

This type of thing has been going on for centuries. They got caught because an angry individual was angry because they could not afford to pay to get their children in a certain university. This will not end no matter what is happening to the person who created this form of earning money.

What they did was wrong and they deserve to be punished!! I read they might get jail time but I doubt that will happen. They will probably come up with a plea bargain.

It is very sad, but nothing new some of the wealthy always feel because they have money they can buy anything they want regardless of the consequences; they need to be held accountable.

Last I learned, these knuckleheads were in court for a preliminary hearing. I hope they both experience the fullest extent of the law. As a current graduate student, I took personal offense to their underhanded tactics to ensuring their children got into college. Funny enough, one of the daughters of Lori Loughlin even stated she wasn't even interested in attending college, and that it was at the behest of her parents. Ha! So Loughlin went though all of that trouble...and the kid didn't even want to go. What a moron.

Huffman pleaded guilty so it's just a matter of sentencing now. I wonder if she will serve time like Martha Stewart did.
