Title: Do you attach memories to your clothes?
Post by: pectacon on May 22, 2019, 10:27:02 am
Do you own clothing that you don't want to wear, not because it fits funny but because it has some kind of bad memory attached to it?
I have a shirt in my drawer that I've been skipping because I happened to be wearing it a recent few times when I got sick/injured and now it reminds me of that. I'm not thinking there is some kind of "bad luck" attached to a piece of fabric but it just reminds me of bad stuff and I finally decided to just get rid of it lol. Am I the only one who does this?

No but I have had clothes that I attached a certain memory to because of something that happened when I was wearing it.

I don't have any clothes like that - why don't you give it away to someone who needs clothing?  ???

I  don't have any  bad memories to my clothes and I have gotten where if I buy any clothes, then I will take a like amount down and  donate them, Just like anything else I buy. If I have something  that is working good I will donate it after I get the newer one which is not often any more, because I just about replaced every thing with  something new.

I don't attach memories to clothes. I do have a few items that I can't bear to give up because I love them so much, even though they don't fit me anymore.

Mine is the opposite.  I have two pieces that I wore during high school, many, many years ago. (I'm now retired),  They are pieces that bring me great memories.  I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping a couple of pieces.   I donate most of the clothes I no longer wear but these two pieces hang in an extra closet.   I also have a couple of my dad's shirts, he passed in 1985.   If I had something that related to a bad memory I believe I would get rid of it quickly.

I don't have any bad memory clothes, or clothes that I think are jinxed.... if I did, I would add them to the Salvation Army pile & move them on.

I do have clothes that have good memories associated with them, many from my youth. I just can across an old Mammoth MTN shirt that I got one of my friends to give me off his back.  Funny.   It's a nice shirt.

I do get fond memories flooding back whenever I pull my 45 year old leather jacket out of the closet (yes I still wear it often), but the bad memory clothes went to Goodwill years ago.

No and it would be bothersome, why hold onto something that will bring you sadness. like the loss of a family member, oh I remember, I had this when I was younger, and the point to that is??????

I still have my undershirt that I wore when I played football in high school. Way too small to wear now, but it brings back good memories.

I was in an accident a while back where someone in another car was killed, I had just got a really nice pantsuit, but I donated it immediately.

Ironically I never did until recently. I bought an outfit to wear to a Christmas party and later that night I got the most devastating news of my life. When going through my clothes recently I saw that outfit and can no longer wear it because it reminds me of that horrible memory.

I have a few clothing items that have memories attached to them, like two dresses that I wore to my graduation and a shirt I purchased to wear to a concert. That shirt is over a decade old, but I also still like it.

I bought this shirt that has diamond colored beads all over it and the last real conversation I had with my grandma before she died was to ask her if I should reinforce the stitching on them.  She said yes, which I did then showed it to her.  Her eyes were failing her so she ran her hand over it and said she did like what I had done.  Now that she has passed on, every time I wear the shirt it makes me think of her.  It's one of the few things I can attach to her and not cry about.

I don't have any clothes I attach bad memories to.  I have some old clothes that I have memories of that time period.  Some old clothes I regret giving away though.  I'm not buying as many clothes as I used to.  I have way too many clothes.

No, I don't recall any of my clothing reminding me of a memory. I am glad of that because I would not want to be reminded of some of the memories I have. Majority are good memories but I do have a few bad ones.

I have a few shirts I've refused to get rid of because they were given to me by someone or I wore them to a special event.

I kept the last piece of clothing along with a pair of earring that  my mom purchased me for my birthday before she past away.  Cannot seem to let go of them even though I no longer use either one.  Not sure the clothing would fit anymore.

No, I do not; they are just clothes that serve a purpose; when they no longer serve my purpose if they are in fairly good shape; i just donate so someone else can enjoy or benefit  from.
