Americans should take note, we aren't the only ones objecting to gun laws that reduce our capacity to protect our homes and lives.
June 4, 2019 New Zealand's 'voluntary' gun turn-in
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/06/new_zealands_voluntary_gun_turnin_reels_in_a_whopping__530_guns.html
The figures are in for New Zealand's "voluntary" gun "amnesty," and, well, anyone who understands gun ownership shouldn't be surprised.
In a nation with 150,000 gun permits and an estimated 1.5 million guns in circulation, the number of actual military-style weapons turned in is...530.
Obviously, not everyone in New Zealand is onboard with the country's hastily thrown together new law to expropriate weapons in the name of protection from mass shootings. What that utterly miserable "530" figure shows is mass resistance, in response to the complete stupidity of blaming a mass shooting on the gun, not the foreign terrorist using the gun. That's what New Zealand's lefty parliament came up with in the wake of a hideous mass shooting at a Christchurch mosque last March by an Australian national. Instead of enacting legislation to, say, keep the likes of this nut out of their country, the Kiwis decided to target New Zealand's gun-owners in what was abusively called an "amnesty," suggesting they were the ones who did something wrong. With turn-ins amounting to a rounding error, it's obvious they're resisting.
The result? The gun grab is a disaster. Not only does it falsely blame New Zealand's gentle, civil, rural, gun-oriented culture for the act of a foreign misfit who shouldn't have been let into the country in the first place, it now is leading to mass resistance. With one in four Kiwis believed to be gun-owners, according to the reports, as much as a quarter of the nation have become outlaws.

Christchurch attack: New Zealand launches gun buy-back scheme
New Zealand government on thursday launched more than 208 million dollar six month buy back scheme to compensate owners of newly banned semi automatic weapons which was prohibited after the deadly attacks on two mosques in the southern city of christchurch. They were banned by parliament in april few weeks after the shootings occured. In march a gunman killed 51 people and injured dozens of people in mass shooting on two mosques in Christchurch.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson and Minister of Police Stuart Nash said in a joint emailed statement that “NZ$208 million ($135.97 million) had been set aside to compensate owners of the banned semi automatic firearms up to 95 percent of the original cost.” Stuart Nash also added “Police have detailed plans in place for the next step which is the collection of firearms from the community.
It will be a huge logistical exercise and is expected to get under way in mid July.” The owners can hand over their weapons until December 20. “The buy-back has one objective to remove the most dangerous weapons from circulation” Minister of Police Stuart Nash said. Parliament has passed the gun betterment law. It’s the first considerable changes to the country’s gun laws after decades through a vote of 119 to 1 in April. The new gun laws in April has banned military style semi automatic weapons and parts that can be used to assemble forbidden firearms. 95 percent money of the weapon will be compensated.
Existing gun laws had provided for a standard ‘A category’ gun license which cover semi automatics limited to seven shots. The government said “Police estimated around 14300 military style semi automatics would be covered by the new law. It is difficult to predict the exact number.” Almost 700 weapons had already been handed over to the compensation scheme that was launched and almost 5000 had been registered by owners with police, while they are awaited for collection. Robertson said “There is high uncertainty around any costs, owing to the lack of information on the number of prohibited items, their type and condition. Better estimates of the total cost would be available once the buy-back was under way and the government would top up the amount if needed .
On 15 march Australian citizen Brenton Tarrant, who claims to be white supremacist attacked the Al Noor mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch.
He is charged for the murder of 51 people and 40 counts of attempted murder and one terrorism charge in New Zealand’s deadliest mass shooting. His semi automatic rifles were modified with high capacity magazines, so that they can hold more bullets than the previous one. According to the Small Arms Survey “With a population of just under 5 million New Zealand is home to an estimated total of 1.5 million firearms making it the country with the 17th highest rate of civilian firearm ownership in the world” New Zealand Police record in 2016 says
“It is estimated that there were 1.2 million legal firearms owned by civilians, that equates to around one for every four people.”

I hope that are doesn't happen here. What is a country that is not protected by gun owners. One that will end up in slavery of some sort or overcome by Muslims. It is not the guns that kill people it is the crazy people who do. I want to be protected if anything should happen here.
-
They just held a voluntary gun turn- in Chicago last weekend and it was a huge success. But we still had a violent weekend here. I hope that people start to realize that guns are not the answer.
-
Even if you believe nobody should have guns, I don't get how people think this is going to work. The only people surrendering their guns are the people who would not have misused them in the first place.

The people have a constitutional right to bear arms and to protect themselves. IT may come to having to stand up and fight. And not just verbally running your mouth online. I honestly could see us ending up in another civil war.

Right. And you have a new breed of people who I do not think will just roll over. I think people are Peed off enough to fight back. I could be wrong.

One great thing about living in this country is the fact that we have our freedom. Some of us use our freedom to carry something; whether it's a gun, pepper spray or whatever. I would always have "someone's back" if they need to defend their self or their family.
The thing that's disturbing is when a mentally unstable person makes a conscious choice to harm others.

they would have to make us give up our guns..we have them for protection from the idiots that misuse the guns..they are our protection and wont willingly hand them over..especially when there are so many bad people out there..

That is the thing people do not understand. If the people are disarmed then we have no way to defend ourselves and there is no more freedom. It has happened time and time again in other countries.

Look at Venezuela. They volunteered to turn in their weapons because the government was going to protect them and take care of them. No, the people cannot defend themselves so they are starving to death and being shot dead in the streets.
Look at Germany. MILLIONS of people were gassed because their leader disarmed them and they could not defend themselves.
It is sad that kids are being taught that the Holocaust did not really happen. I have talked to people who do not believe this happened. Our kids are being brainwashed. So are many adults. You can find history in real hold in your hand books. It is the truth. You cannot always find the truth on the internet. :(

Good advice RE a xtian being armed

Many dont even know what the word Christian means. They will disagree with Jesus words Re drawing their sword and yet they call themselves Christian.
The days days will be marked by many claiming to be a Christian but proving false to its power.
Draw your sword.....and you will perish.Simple.Life is very sacred in Jehovahs eyes.

An old cliché but "When gun are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns".... :bad:
-
Turning in guns voluntarily is so intelligent because everyone knows the criminals will be first in line to give up their guns.
Right? :silly:

Wow! I totally don't believe that post by the Christian Scientists. Some of their beliefs are way off the mark.
And I don't like the moniker xtian. Just my particular POV. It may be politically correct, but it seems to avoid the name of Christ intentionally.

Putting an X in the place of Christ name IS not politically correct. It IS leaving Christ out of it and it is done on purpose.
I have learned a lot of people believe a lot of wack things totally against the Bible even though they claim to believe the Bible. God's Word is not a buffet where you pick and choose which verses to believe and which to throw out.
God also does not give certain people inside knowledge to explain the Bible to every one else. lol.

I have never owned a gun but I am still against this policy.

I think maybe they should do a better background check and maybe even a psychological review. But asking people to give up their guns will never work.

They do a background check. That is enough. I do not agree with a physiological review. That is foolish. If you have been diagnosed with mental illness that will show up on a background check. The people who go out and carry out massive crimes are not obeying the law anyway. Not sure how that is so hard for people to understand.
It is the same as saying okay all cars have to be turned in. We will have public transportation and you can use that. Too many people drive drunk, text and drive, just drive carelessly, so yep we will just end the rights of everyone to own a car. We will have people who do have cars that we deem are mature enough to have one and they can shuttle you around for a price. It is no different at all. You cannot punish everyone for the crimes of a few stupid people.
