So we played a game of White Elephant Gift Exchange this past Wednesday with my extended family. We brought our four gifts (one from me, my husband, and our two boys. I had never played this Christmas gift exchange game and didn't know quite what to expect. What a hoot it was! Usually we just have a secret Santa gift exchange, and it's kind of boring because we didn't really know what to get each other that costs less than 20 bucks. But the White Elephant game was so much better because there were a few nice gifts, a few so-so gifts, and then a few horrible gifts! We had a lot of fun! :peace:

I have played that game a few times before and have always had a blast
-
We had a white elephant gift exchange with co-workers. I got a white elephant, literally a white porcelain elephant coffee cup.
-
I had not heard of it until a Christmas party at work. I think my adult kids would like this now that I think about it.
-
I have played this before and other games similar to this and it is so much fun. You have a lot of laughs because everyone wants that best gift.
-
Never heard of a white elephant gifts for Christmas sounds like fun.
-
Have never done this
-
Is this where everyone buys a gift and picks numbers to see who goes 1st,...then the next person can "steal" that gift or grab from the pile,....and so on and so on?
If so we play it every year but don't call it that. Either way it is A ALOT of fun!

My coworkers were talking about this White Elephant gift exchanges and they sound like fun!

I do not know what this is. Never heard of it. Is it anything like what some call "dirty santa" The last time I worked somewhere that they done this I did not participate. They set the min purchase amount for $20 which was pretty high esp for a co-worker. And the gifts I saw most of them were pretty crappy. One person got about 15 candy bars. One guy got a neck pillow. I have found that exchanging gifts with co-workers is not something I like. Some people get really nice things and some people get junk. Even if you draw names.
Most places are getting to the point where they do not have any type of party because you always have some butthurt cry baby who is offended by Christmas and complains because they are either left out or say they feel pressured to participate. It must be sad to be an adult and not have the backbone to say no when asked if you want to draw names.
I remember working a job once, they had a Christmas party, and this guy who is atheist, participated in the party. Well sort of...he ate the food and enjoyed the party. He just did not bring any food to the party. lol Point is he doesn't believe in God at all so therefore does not believe in His Son but HE celebrates Christmas.

I have played Dirty Santa. It may be similar to that game, I am not sure. It was a lot of fun!

Sounds fun. Our family usually picks a number and pick a gift card. We can steal from each other if we like.
-
Se have been to that kind of exchange before and it is fun. Some of the gifts are nice, and some are in my closet waiting for the next exchange :bootyshake:

I think that's the same as Secret Santa gift exchange which I never liked cause it always deals with cheap &/or ugly gifts.

Right. Or you get something that is totally irrelevant. It is a horrid gift if you wear say a 5/6 house shoe and get a 9/10 house shoe. IT is totally worthless to you. The job I was referring to earlier they said to make it a gender neutral gift and no less than $20. They also got it up a couple days before the party. Not many participated. And after the exchange most that did said they would not do it again.

We do that with our church Christmas party. We play it with stealing and it is a lot of fun.

I played one with my fiancé and his family and had a blast.
-
I have played that game-but it was some years ago. They were a lot of fun.
-
My sister told me about it this year and she said it's really funny.

Did this once at work but we were not allowed to spend any money. It had to be something you owned and did not want anymore. Some of the gifts were really bad and some were useful. I ended up with a used toaster oven that I sold at a garage sale for $15

the game is a lot of fun and i agree there is always a wide variety of gifts and a lot of taking or stealing of gifts

Well it is good you sold it for $15 but I don't think I would want someone else's unwanted or unused junk. lol

That's why it got sold. Made a profit for something I did pay for and got rid of something I no longer wanted. Win Win
