Title: Sneezing etiquette
Post by: UGetPaid on September 24, 2020, 06:38:31 am
So the scenario is as follows: you're out in public, at the store or in an area with other people milling about and you have to sneeze. Are you supposed to pull your mask down and sneeze into you elbow/sleeve? Or are you supposed to sneeze into your face mask as it covers your mouse and nose?

I vote for uncovered into your elbow, but what with all the new rules and other people getting offended at mask removals, I wanted to see what others think.

I only sneezed once out in public with my mask on and I automatically sneezed into my elbow with the mask on.  I didn't even think of taking it off.

I think you should sneeze into your mask an into your elbow/sleeve. That is why you can wash your mask or throw it away when you get home.

I'm with the other replies, do both! It's a double barrier.

Im not sure UR gonna win with everybody on this. What do i mean?

There are people that are very scared being close to someone with or without a mask,so U can imagine how they would feel being around someone sneezing.

Wait i have the answer.Take your invisible pill.

Your method sounds best to me.  :star: I vote for that. Uncover, sneeze, go about your business.

That shows respect for others.  Besides, your mask would be rather nasty if you sneezed into it.  :P

Here you can almost get fined.  A scary thing to do out in public.

If the intent was to do so...maybe.

And sadly there have been situations that have been caught on camera...and yes punish them.

But if its innocent,,,,you cant punish.

Maybe we are gonna need to buy insurance in case we accidentally infect somebody.....LOL!

I never thought about that, but linderlizzy probably has the same idea I do.

I assume technically you are suppose to sneeze inside the mask. I don't wear a mask but if I had one on (and if in an area where it was mandatory I would do so) but I would pull the mask down and sneeze in to my shoulder like I always do.  The county I live in there is NO mask mandate and the stores like Walmart do not enforce it so most people are not wearing a mask.  And get this --- Our numbers are going down every day!

lol Yeah I agree with that.  Most people that I have seen remove the mask and cough or sneeze in to the air and do not cover their mouth at all.  People are stupid.  Most also remove the mask to talk.  So I am thinking what is the point in wearing it to start with.

Uncover, sneeze, go about your business.

I don't understand why you would uncover. The whole point of wearing the mask in the first place is to catch droplets when you cough or sneeze!

I 'd sneeze into my mask, but its instinctual to cover you face when you sneeze or cough.  At least for me it is.  Probably end up doing both.

Because if you sneeze inside the mask then it is gonna be all over your face.

Yeah, but it defeats the purpose of the mask if you take it off. So why wear one at all?

Um, I would remove the mask and sneeze into the crook of my arm.

I'm with you on this one! Unmasking to sneeze (while a gross experience for yourself) makes zero sense. That's like "better hurry and take off my baby's diaper, he looks like he's about to use it!"

I don't like the masks but I'd be annoyed if someone was wearing one but yanked it down just in time to sneeze near me. Doesn't have to be a pandemic for sneezes to be gross.

I don't wear one. But if I go somewhere that I have to I will not sneeze inside the mask. I do sneeze in to my shoulder and not just out in the air. The mask is useless anyway.

I would leave the mask on and sneeze into the crook of my elbow.  Most often a sneeze isn't "snotty" so my mask inside wouldn't be gross, just "filled" with more droplets from my lungs, nasal passage.

I would like to be able to replace my mask asap.  At work, masks are provided, so I would replace.

If I did have a "snotty" sneeze, I would hate to have that end up in the crook of my elbow.....so leaving the mask on seems the best option for me.

It's really gross to sneeze into your face mask, I go with elbow.

I can't even bend my elbow to sneeze into it. Recovering from a spider bite. Don't even see how its possible for some in general to even pull off

I don't no but I hate sneezing and coughing while out in public anymore. I feel like you get stares and people automatically think covid. I needed to cough while at the drs the other day because of my allergies and I felt like I got stares. I tried to hold it back. Lol.

Sneezing in public has become the new farting in public! Between you and me, I would feel less "shame from stares" these days if I ripped a loud and odorous one in an elevator than if I sneezed or coughed.

Never thought about it but using the mask sounds like the best thing to do these days.  I usually have an extra one in my pocket or purse anyway.

I would sneeze away, toward the ground if I'm fast enough and its not like you have to take off the whole mask to avoid sneezing into it...

This is what I was going to say.  If you do sneeze into your mask wash/discard it asap.

I think you should sneeze into your mask an into your elbow/sleeve. That is why you can wash your mask or throw it away when you get home.

Yes, some states are very serious about health guidelines.  Although they may seen outlandish I can understand.

Here you can almost get fined.  A scary thing to do out in public.

If you're having snotty sneezes you should be at home anyway  allergy sneezes are different

Most people will sneeze into their arm by moving the mask up, then there are those who sneeze inside of the mask (gross).

If you sneeze into your arm or shirt sleeve, then we may have an epidemic within dry cleaning businesses.

I think you should leave your mask on when you have to sneeze in public AND sneeze into your arm. You can always wash the mask or get yourself a new paper one and you might as well be doubly safe.

It depends...if I have another mask on me, I"ll just sneeze into the mask and get another one. If not, I would probably sneeze uncovered into elbow and then go wash hands or put on sanitizer (which I carry around)

I think the mask would be an extra protection so sneeze with mask on and cover with elbow or even with hands since the mask is on and you can put hand sanitizer after

I choose to remove my mask and sneeze into my elbow sleeve. I don't want that stuff getting into my mouth.
