Title: Cultural Diversity: Question About Diwali
Post by: cmoney4IG on November 14, 2020, 10:18:42 am
I have several friends who are celebrating Diwali.  I hear a report of the news yesterday (American news).  Knowing that Americans don't always get things straight I wanted to ask this question.  Please forgive my ignorance.  Who celebrates Diwali?  I thought it was just Hindus.  But yesterday I heard someone say Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains all celebrate Diwali.  But aren't they separate and different groups?  Is it a national Indian holiday or is it a religious holiday or is it both?

Never heard of it. Why don't you research it for us and let us know. Sounds interesting. I love to be enlightened.  :glasses-nerdy:

For anyone remotely interested in this topic since the newbie who started this thread apparently dropped the ball in giving us info, here are a couple of links defining Diwali:

https://www.almanac.com/content/diwali from the Old Farmer's Almanac, and

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali from Wikipedia.

This is not a holiday that I personally observe or ever heard of before, but it's still interesting.

You're welcome.  :angel11:
