Title: USB PORT Damaged
Post by: Mizzkizz7 on December 06, 2020, 01:33:15 pm
I am so upset. My laptop tumbled on the floor with my USB installed inside of it. Now my USB flash drive is bent and the port doesn't work. Thanks to the laptop stand I had on my bed to hold the laptop. How am I supposed to get the information from the damaged USB on a new USB? ???
I called a computer shop already.

What do you mean the USB installed inside of it?  First off, lesson learned, always have a back up if it is important.  Second, can you still access the info on the USB? If so just move the info to your hard drive then on to another USB. If the USB is broken and there is a piece inside of the computer I would try to pull it out with pliers. Get the needle nose ones and see if you can grab ahold of something. If it is already broken you can't mess it up any worse.  What did the computer shop tell you?

The USB port-inside laptop- is damaged, and the USB flash drive is bent. i Yes I do have my info backed up so buying another USB makes sense but I can't upload or transfer to another USB because the port isn't functional now. The shop said that they can retrieve info from broken USB and repair the laptop's USB port.
I plugged a old school USB inside the USB port and it was very loose so the port has to be repaired.

I learned the hard way if it is important to make several back ups. :(  At least maybe they can fix it for you and you can still get your stuff off the damaged USB.  Honestly you could probably replace the usb port yourself if you tried.

I looked inside my USB Port on the side of my laptop and it is bent in the inside, the connectors.

It sucks I know. I looked into the inside of my laptop and saw the USB port metal bent on the inside of it.

It shouldn't cost too much to fix if the inside metal is bent only on the inside USB port you think?

It shouldn't.  All they have to do is replace that port. But if it is something most people cannot do on their own and you need it done they figure you will pay what they charge. Stuff like that is expensive because they can charge it and people will pay it.  Me personally I would try to fix it myself.  How many other ports for USB do you have? If you only have one you can get one of them things that turns one into three or four.  Won't help with getting info from the damaged usb but will solve the issue of not having enough ports.  Of course if you use the device on your bed that will be an issue because it is usually a bigger thing that lays on the desk.  I have a couple that I use from time to time when I need several USB devices plugged in at one time.

Is there a wireless option available? I know it's not the same thing, but when I ordered a phone with a defective usb port I was able to listen to music via wireless headphones.  Call your service provider/cell carrier and see what your options are.  Sorry this is happening to you.

Yes, now I see all I need is the port replaced but the computer store wants to charge $35 for a diagnostic when I already know what the issue is.. I don't know much about computer parts but I'm still learning. I don't have any other ports that I know of...no I'm sorry. I have 3 on the left side of my laptop but I use those to plug in my cord from my printer to print. The desk is going back to Amazon tomorrow although I feel it was my fault for adjusting it too high when it didn't need to be .
I've never heard of 1 port that turns into 3 or 4. If you feel like it, could you send me a picture? only if you want. Thanks for your advice.

It is not one port that turns in to 3 or 4.  It is a device that you plug in to the port that has ports on it. I have a picture but I am not sure how to upload pictures. It is like the things you plug in to a wall socket that gives you extra plug ins. I will try to post a pic so you know what I mean.

Go to walmart.com and in the search bar type in USB EXPANSION and you will see what I am talking about. I do not see to have the option to upload a picture.

Here is what you need to expand one of the other USB ports on your laptop.
