Not really.  I wouldn't want to receive a homemade gift (unless is has some nice craftsmanship or is food) so I wouldn't consider giving a homemade present for another person as a gift.
*if you got the hands to make something that will make someone happy go ahead, if you can cook go ahead, but if you can't do either it's up to you
*also what do you plan to make?

I do, but that is not all I give.  It is generally only if someone asks for something.  I knit and crochet sometimes, and alot of friends and family ask me to make scarves and blankets.  But it is only when it is requested.
