Who's putting them up this year?
-
I usually wait until the coldest day in December and then decide to put them up - I then take them down the coldest day in January :)
-
I usually put up lights but have not done it yet. Need to get at it. :santa:
-
I do not put light up outside. We do put them up on all the windows inside.
-
Inflation is stopping me from putting christmas lights up.
-
Not I. I don't decorate at all.
-
Already got my lights up. I love to decorate and started early & really don't care what neighbors have to say even though some have tried to be scrooges and complain & my response that sounds like a personal problem have a nice day
-
Not me. I did in the past when it was fun, but not anymore.
-
We don't do lights. We celebrate Christmas and Jesus, but I figure that I don't need outdoor lights to do that! I might change my mind if I were in a different neighborhood. But it is too much of a hassle in my mind.
-
I live in an apartment that has a balcony. I have solar lights on the railing. I put up my Christmas tree yesterday that has lights already on the tree and decorated the tree today.
-
Not us.
-
well im not but my son might.

UGP,as i am sure you know i was a Catholic 60 yrs ago.The Hail Mary prayer was just as popular as the Our Father.
My question to you, when you have mass or anything else rosaries etc.is the HM still used?
The bible does say there is only 1 mediator to God and of course that is Jesus.
Im also NOT sure you would be interested in this link RE this link cos i think you took a job for charity in Catholicism. It comes from the book of Acts.

I might decorate my one window this year
-
Just not up to it this year. my son is dead; my step kids wany nothing to do with us; my father-in-law was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer; my sister, nephew, niece, nephew in law, 2 great nieces (one only 6 weeks old) all just got covid. our church kicked us out because we stood up against minister that lied about us and slandered us. Basically, we are tired of life.
sorry for the depressing answer :-\

It is not a part of the Mass itself, but the Hail Mary is still a central part of the rosary, definitely.

Not me. Maybe next year.

Thank you for the reply.
Aside from paying respect at funerals i didnt have a clue.So Mary still is venerated. While JWs hold her in regard to being 1 of the 144000 that will rule in heaven and rule heaven and earth from Gods kingdom in heaven, for what its worth to you you already know Jesus is the only mediator to Jehovah, but you might also consider this scripture.
8 Well I, John, was the one hearing and seeing these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things. 9 But he tells me: “Be careful! Do not do that! I am only a fellow slave of you and of your brothers the prophets and of those observing the words of this scroll. Worship God.
From REV 22:8-9

*** So Mary still is venerated.
***
Worship God.
I clipped out much of your post to lay the emphasis on these two comments you made. This is the correct terminology and distinction.
;)
There may still be some Catholicism inside you yet!
;)
(Please don't be offended - it is meant as a wink/joke - not an insult!)

I hope you appreciate my honesty. When i asked you if the HM prayer was as popular today as it was 60 yrs ago i based that on the times i may have been in church for funerals.Over the yrs it seemed to me the church got away from saying it.
It was more popular in the NFL then it was in church,so i thought they may have finally used the bible to show us how God felt about it.I gave you 2 examples from the bible that shows NO one else but Jesus was his fathers mediator and NO one else deserves to be worshipped...Mary,Saints etc.
It was a curious question i had cos again i havent been to a regular Catholic mass in yrs and of course i know what bible says RE the point i brought up.
I will admit i used the post as a teaching tool with the bible to back up the JWs teaching.I wasnt trying to insult you either.....just trying to present it with good intention.
In this world you can show proof from the bible to people who say they support it and to those that think its a myth.Thats how i became knowing the JWs were Gods people. To others they fall snare to what they have been brrought up on and refuse to let go or just the fact they arent interested.
Anyway i assure you i brought this whole thing up out of curiosity and to teach.NOT to debate or argue over.
Again to show the lack of interest the world has in bible truths,im not sure what the population of the earth was in Noahs day,but Noah preached what God would do to a wicked world.ONLY 8 survived the flood.Jesus likened todays times to Noahs day.

I hope you appreciate my honesty.

Sure - I appreciate and recognize your honesty. I think my point was that there IS a real difference between veneration and worship. As Catholics, we venerate (respect) Mary for her role in bringing Jesus into the world. Worship is saved for only God/Jesus/Holy Spirit - all are in the Bible.
Our respect for Mary is not worship.
No arguing here. Just discussion.

Back to Christmas Lights. I love having them, not putting them up and taking them down! (Senior, so I keep them at ground level now)

The angel told Mary God had found much favor with her to be his mother.Respect is fine.Maybe i used wrong word in venerate. But you have to admit <and i dont know if Catholics do this>Christendom teaches to ask saints etc to mediate to God.Again its clear as day Jesus was the Word and ONLY one to mediate.

I'm so sorry, ssarber. I hope the new year has better things in store for you.
Don't give up. Remember that "It's always darkest before the dawn."

Quite the contrary, I think you used the perfect word when you said "venerate" - which was my original point. You mentioned the veneration of Mary and the worship of God. In a nutshell, that is exactly what Catholics do. Your understanding of the role of the saints is also spot on in my understanding. We pray to them to intercede for us.
But where our understandings differ (assuming I am understand you correctly) is that Jesus was himself only a mediator. That just simply is not true!

Thank you for your kind words. I realized how depressing it sounded. I am trying to look up and pray for better days. Thank you for the reminder.

Thank you so much for that. I felt bad after I wrote that because it was such a depressing response. I appreciate your kind words and prayers. That means a lot.

Im not sure what you mean when you say Jesus only a mediator?
https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/pray-in-jesus-name/
Of couse he is Gods begotten son,the ark-angel Michael as well and he represents his father. But again HE never challenged being God.This is where the trinity comes in and we know each others stance on that.

I misunderstood what you said earlier. I thought you were saying Jesus was ONLY a mediator. But instead it looks like you were saying ONLY Jesus can mediate. My mistake.

I'm sitting here wondering how the above posts have anything to do with Christmas lights.
Anyway, I love Christmas lights, but I'm basically too lazy to put them up and I have no one else motivated enough to do it for me. It's not really that big a deal, so I'll just enjoy everyone else's efforts. I have other good qualities. :female:

Not a thing. I need to do a better job of not getting into debates when the conversation strays away from the topic point. That's on me!

I have to laugh....
What does "Grandma got run over by a reindeer",mistletoe,Santa,LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL,have to do with Jesus birth?
Plus ABSOLUTELY no support in bible 12/25 is Jesus birth and a command to celebrate it!!
NOW thats really straying!!!!
At least i kept Jesus in my posts.OH BTW......decorating with lights also has NOTHING to do with his birth!!NOW thats on topic!!!LOL!!

Carefully! Man died putting Christmas Lights on his house!

A man has passed away after falling from his roof while decorating his home for Christmas, leaving behind two young daughters.

Such a shame. If he knew the truth he woulda never been on that roof.

I only put them up inside since no one will see them outside anyways.
-
im not but saw one online that was made up like a gingerbread house really amazing looking.

We always start early, so we don't have to stress about it if we need bulbs or whatever. Then we can take our time. This year we made a bunch of Christmas trees to light up in the yard out of tomato cages. The turned out so cute and are definitely weather resistant. We saw it on pinterest.
