We are trying to remodel of Home. I was wandering if any of you have any good tips on how to cut corners and save money?

We just finished a remodel. What a nightmare, but now that it is finished I am glad we did it. We Love it! We bought all of the sinks, vanities any of that kind of stuff we could, so we sat around and sourced it in a lot of places and paid way less on that than what the contractor wanted to charge. Our garage was full of the stuff before the contractor even started. Check on everything you do to see if you can get any city, state or federal rebates for doing energy saving things. The rebate we got for going solar paid for our new roof. (a couple of years ago they were giving out higher rebates!) If you switched from gas to electric (with solar) on some appliances you got rebates. We don't need yet, but we had them put in some of the bars for handicapped now to help our Mother and Mother-IN-Law when they visit, They have toilet paper holders that are actually bars to help you get up and down, but look like stylish holders. We spoke to the flooring people and got a big discount on our wooden floors because we tacked our floor order on to one they were already doing. (We only could do that because we were ordering in advance and did not have to rush, so we waited for the other order to be made.) Some contractors will not go along with this but we were fortunate that ours did. I know I will probably remember some more ideas later, so I will add when I think of them. We finished about 6 or 7 months ago.

We go as much of the work ourselves if possible. That saves a ton.

Just want to say I hate you for having the money to remodel in this day and age.
