Title: Possible virus in one of the offers?
Post by: rrechy225 on June 04, 2010, 08:20:30 am
I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem.  I just tried to download the offer " Pimp up your facebook profile it's free!  Use ChamelionTom to customize your facebook profile.".  While it was downloading my virus detectors went wild.  Has anyone had this problem before??   :sad1:

I just went through it, all the way up to installing the plug-in. I did not install it because it has no digital signature/unknown publisher (this is fairly common with newer things), BUT according to my security/spyware program it has been reported for known malware - red flag up. While this may not be a huge deal, some malware can be just about impossible to get rid of because it's so invasive and the 'uninstall' usually won't work. You end up having to edit your registry and unless you absolutely know what you're doing, that's NOT something to mess with. Personally, I would NOT put it in my machine, but that's just my opinion. I am very computer literate and don't usually say "stay away!"

I had similiar pop ups and i usually do respond to them, besides my computer has been kind of slow when i'm typing. I have internet security protection, but i still take precaution. All you can do is not open sites that your not familiar with and you should be fine.

I think it is spyware also.  I have had many issues with the shop at home toolbar and fusions shopathome link.  Can't get rid of it off my computer.  Finally had to reset my computer check point.

My advice would be to stay away from Chameleon Tom. Not only does it mess up your machine, they don't credit either. If you have a malware problem from that program try downloading malwarebytes and run it. You would be surprised by how much crap that program can pick up.

The Chameleon Tom offer was posted before and some people complained about it. I would avoid this one.

I would run a scan on any software before installing it.

On another pay-to site I visited, they were offering legit free software through a 3rd party site, but the 3rd party site it had bundled it with spyware.

Oh my gosh thanks for the heads up about this offer.  I know FC is careful about choosing offers, but some can take a turn for the worse.
