Simon and Paula are back together again on a new show comming called the X Factor, what do you think. Will this show take the place of American Idol?

I don't think it will replace "Idol", but it will generate lots of interest as a new entity. I do think, however, that "Idol" will continue to lose viewers simply because it's been on the air for so long and viewers typically want something fresh and new after such a long time.

While both are singing competitions, The X Factor differs from Idol in that it allows group participants, and has no upper age limit. If you're 65 and are an undiscovered talent, you can win X Factor. The judging process will also be different, if I remember.
This show isn't going to replace Idol. Despite a ratings erosion, Idol is still the number one program on network television. It's not going anywhere in the immediate future. The X Factor is just FOX's way of trying to replicate Idol-like ratings in the fall when it isn't on. If it can come close, and Idol stays ratings-wise about where it is now, next season FOX will run away as the number one overall network for the 2011-2012 TV season in overall ratings. FOX is already number one, but they might put one heck of a distance between themselves and number two CBS.
I think X will be a relatively big hit. America just can't seem to get enough of these singing competitions. Just look how well The Voice is doing on NBC.
