Title: Physical injuries
Post by: delladidit on July 08, 2012, 11:29:25 am
...Last January, I fell and totally messed up my right shoulder.  Broke Glenoid, Humorus, tore Labrum and entire rotator cuff.  I have physical terrorism three times a week.  I have a long way to go before I have full range of motion.
...So my questions are what happened to you and how long was your recovery?  Are there any words of wisdom you will share to help keep me motivated to do all of my physical therapy?  Are there things you would do different (besides turning back time and not injuring yourself!)?
...Peace be with you.  :) Della

Ten years ago this October my husband crushed his right hand, injuring all 4 fingers. The doctor tried to restart circulation in the index and middle fingers but it did not work and he lost both of those fingers. The remaining 2 are fused into a slightly flexed position and can only be moved at the hand knuckle. Let me tell you, we had a hard road and he often lost faith and felt sorry for himself. He also became addidcted to the pain pills.
I think what really helped was family and friends being tough on him and refusing to let him be beaten. Of course, in the beginning we were all supportive but after a while we refused to let him think he was any different than before. He had a wife, a small child and a new house to focus on so we made him switch his focus.
Find something to focus your recovery on. Something that you have to use your arm to acheive. Good luck. I know it is hard.

I broke my hand in about 5 places a few years ago.  I  just took tooth picks and tape to make a taut traction splint on my finger with knuckle I broke and taped everything else together.  :-X  Took about a year before it felt right, other than my knuckle being slightly out of place it seems to work fine now.  My job is writing so it's probably a good thing too.
