Title: Spring is in the air (and wasps will be soon too)
Post by: sak4kat on March 31, 2013, 12:00:26 pm
I'm just curious.  In years past in placed I'd lived it seems like the wasps start coming out once the temps break.  My neighbor just found wasps nests in the drop down ceiling and I'm wondering is this a good season where DIY removal of the hives is safe?

I middle of winter when they are not active. Where we live they are already buzzin around and a lot of them. So guess we wll put out some feed for them. Canned cat fod with boric acid mixed in. It gets them every time. Hang it where the cats can't get to it. Have to do something because when i get stung i get pretty sick. Boric aci is what takes them down. But they like cat food so bingo problem solved.

I don't like wasps either.  I have already seen signs of the bees and know for sure that they won't be far behind.  I live in a house where they come out of nowhere.  It's time to stock up on the RAID.  It is the only spray I swear by.  I love their commercials! ;D  :star: :icon_rr:

I really hate wasps. Really, really hate them! They're nothing but angry, mean, evil, scary little buggers that only what to ruins someones day, every day, every chance they get! Fortunately, I haven't been stung by one since I was young child. I avoid them best I can, and generally just wait for them to move on rather than attempt to squash 'em. In the past 8 years, I haven't had many wasps around my home but I do get a few bees each year because of the couple plants I've got that attract them. Bees don't really bother me though, because as long as you leave them alone & stay out of their way they've no interest in stinging you. As for wasps.... that's all they really want to do.

@timvolley You can use something called pyrethrum or pyrethrin, both work as an insecticide and will quickly kill insects including wasps. Pyrethrin in a lower concentration works as a repellent too. When using either of them, be sure to follow directions exactly.

I appreciate the wasps as beautiful and fascinating creatures but I really don't like them around me because I was stung by a bee when I was a child.
