I lost a lot of weight doing Turbo Jam. It's actually really fun once you really get into it. It's part kickboxing and little bit of dancing. I highly recommend it.

Well, haven't lost a lot yet, but I'm sorta doing a mix of kettlebell and Zumba.  I really need to get back into it though cause I've sorta stopped for the past few weeks.  I like the idea of doing kick boxing though cause then you sorta get a skill for all the work you're putting in.  Have any recommendations for a beginner?

Diet and exercise.  Pretty simple...but apparently not so simple for people to follow.  In my opinion weight is not a problem for anyone who is serious about it.

Change you eating habits some, and eat smaller portions. And walk 5 to 6 days a week. That has helped me a lot!

Drink lots of water. Not only does it help you to fill up quicker, it also flushes out the toxins- which benefits not only your weight but also your skin.

I've heard eating 5 palm-sized meals throughout the diet combined with regular exercise makes you drop weight, but that sounds kind of depriving and like you'd have to really watch yourself so you're not missing out on nutrients you need.

Incorporating metabolism-boosting foods and drinks (for instance, grapefruit and green tea), working out, and eating healthier/less should do the trick. It's not terribly hard if you're ready, committed and motivated. :rainbow:

Eat everything in moderation, drink more water than any other beverage and do physical activity you actually enjoy and will want to do 4-5 times a week

I'm not currently concerned about weight loss - expecting in November... however I can agree with many other suggestions.  ie: eat in moderation, 5-6 small meals a day, exercise... brisk walking is a great start.  When it comes to water an Uncle of mine once told me to divide your weight in 1/2.  Than drink that many ounces a day.  I thought that was crazy till I started doing it myself.  The trick was to drink (Or at least attempt) to drink a bottle before every meal... than another during and after each meal.

balance i am 22, 4'11 and was about 140 pounds i know weight 120 !!! And i did this with balance and walking never even went to the gym. I followed balance and eating every 4 hours!!! I gave myself 5 oz of grains, 5 oz of meat, 3 cups dairy, 2 cups veggie, 1 and half cups of fruit and 150 spare calories a day i believe thats it and eating every 4 hours to keep metabolism going. Honestly I never believed i would have lost weight so easily no diets no crazy hours at the gym ( I am not saying exercise is unimportant or not necessary for weight loss i just did not do) I lost 20 pounds in about 2 months and was not hard at all just took a bit of time to make sure i ate every 4 hours had to work it into my schedule plain meals and grocery shopping to have everything etc small steps that paid off for sure!! I would say the key word is BALANCE and moderation and timing and of course eating!!! Diets do not work eating often and balanced is the true key to being healthy and physical activity ( physical activity not exerise and healthy eating are two most important for weight loss the biggest is your diet. Exercise is helpful and important for your health but not as much of a factor in weight loss as your nutrition and physical activity

Any time I am trying to loose a few pounds I try to exercise at least 3-5 days a week. I drink lots of water and try to eat a more balanced diet.

I see that this post had a variety of responses.  I have done the grapefruit and green tea diet, and I lost 20 pounds.  I need to lose weight badly, and I don't mean 20 pounds; I mean at least 100 pounds.  I haven't weighed less than 130 pounds since 1982 or 1983.  I had my only child nearly 29 years ago, and she is smaller than me and have had three children, which weighed between 6 pounds 11 ounces and 7 pounds 8 ounces.  I ate smaller meals then and did aerobic exercises.  I am nearly 56 and, embarrassing to say,  my daughter has never seen me when I weighed less than 159 pounds.  Maybe I will do it because I would like to see myself smaller.  My cousin has pictures of me when I was tremendously smaller, and I want to challenge myself and do it for once. ??? ??? ??? :rainbow: :rose:

The only way you're going to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in.  There's no other way.  You can count your carbs and all that jazz but until you actually make your mind up that you want to lose weight and are willing to do what you need to do, counting all the carbs and calories in the world won't help you.  You have to exercise and watch what you eat.

A couple of years I lost a lot, and I do mean a lot, of weight by simply watching what I ate and walking with Leslie Sansone.  I didn't count a single calorie or carb or measure out how much of what I was eating (i.e. a cup of this, a half-cup of that, etc.).  Two days a week I had whatever I wanted to eat/drink and as much as I wanted of it.  Five days a week I watched what I ate and drank only water and tea.  I stopped eating bread, sugar and cut down drastically on my salt.  I stopped drinking soda of any kind (yes, even diet soda WILL make you gain weight--it's worse for you, actually, than the regular soda).  I never limited myself or punished myself for having a bad day.  If I wanted a cookie, I had it.  It was better for me to have that 1 cookie than deprive myself and then go wild with the cookies later.  My problem is I'm a stress eater so it was really difficult for me to get my mind where it needed to be to not turn to food when I was upset or stressed.

Every single day of the week I walked.  I started with 1 mile a day and worked my way up to 5+ miles a day.  I didn't miss my walking for anything unless it was absolutely necessary.  Over the course of 18 months, I lost an incredible amount of weight.

The past couple of years have been a little rough and some health issues have caused me a lot of problems, including causing me to gain a little of my weight back because I haven't been able to exercise like I want.  As I'm getting my health back on track, I'm slowly working my way back into my old routine.  Between watching my diet (but never restricting or limiting myself) and walking with Leslie, I have complete confidence I'll be back where I started in no time.

It all comes down to something has to motivate you.  You have to want it bad enough to be able to stick with it and not give in to what may make you overeat.  And, never, never punish yourself because you have a bad day.  Everyone has a day like that.  You just pick up and start over again the next day and tell yourself "that's OK, it wasn't the end of the world, I'll still meet my goals".

Good luck!

There is much good advice out there but a person has to be loyal to the program of watching what they eat and exercise. And if you fail..GET UP and dont quit!!!

There is a health company i buy products from called Purity Products in Long Island,NY.I recommend their aids to help you along with your desire!!

And good fortune to you!!

Give yourself a star each day <like in elementary school>as you progress! And remember to LIKE yourself!!

Asking for Gods help too wouldnt hurt either!

My best advice would be not to spend all your hard earned money on those silly diets and quick weight loss schemes. If you start a diet that consists of taking a pill or drinking a tea or something of that nature, the second you stop taking it, you'll gain all the weight right back and possibly more. The best thing you can do for yourself is look at what your eating and cut out all or most of the bad stuff. Deff try to eliminate soda all together. If you can't part with soda, try drinking diet soda instead. Switch from whole milk to fat free or 1%. Switch everything to low fat or fat free. Cut out all the empty calories wherever you can. Use those as little rewards every once in a while when you have a good week. Never skip a meal and eat smaller meals throughout the day. It keeps you energized and you feel like you're eating the same amount. Keep healthy snacks on you at all times. Don't keep junk food in the house. And use a calorie counter so you can see how much calories you are consuming on average so you have an idea of how much activity you should do to balance out the calories. You lose weight when you burn more calories than you consume. So if you know you eat somewhere between 2,000 to 2,500 calories daily. You need to find an exercise activity that burns at least 3,500-4,000 calories to see some weight loss. You deff don't want to eat less calories because you need them to be healthy, but consider where your calories are coming from. Eat food that will keep you fuller longer. Sign up for a gym membership or a class that you enjoy. If your not into being around other people cause your self conscious, hire a private trainer or if your strong willed enough, go for a jog or do a workout at home.

What you put in your mouth makes a much bigger impact than what exercise you do or not do. First get your diet on point, then find an exercise you enjoy.

I cut out sugar from my diet for a couple of months and lost ten pounds.  I'd been trying to lose that ten pounds for years.  I didn't really do anything else differently.  I was doing an aerobics video daily, too.  I didn't think I could live without sugar, but found that after I got used to being without it, I didn't crave it any more.  I ate lots of fruit in place of sweets, and was amazed to see the pounds drop.

My best advice is will power. Nothing else really works. Stick to a plan. Stay away from Carbs and sugar. That is how we all get fat. I know that first hand. Exercise and eat right. Eat lots of vegetables also.

As far as eating, digestion is a key thing to pay attention to. Chew your food really well, drink water, eating vegetables and fruits before the rest of your meal will help especially probiotic foods like kimchi pickles etc. Try to stay away from gluten. It neutralizes the acid in your stomach that breaks your food down.

As far as exercise, cardio is what burns fat. I recommend an intense dance class/video like Zumba.

I can disagree with myself here. On the one hand I have had success with the good old fashioned meditteranean diet, lots of olive oil, fresh fish and veggies. I cannot get my head around taking weight loss drugs, this seems too risky in my opinion and is not natural. Regarding exercise, the best advice I can give is to find something that you really enjoy, for me this is badminton. If I participate in something I don't really enjoy, I won't keep it up and eventually I will talking myself out of it.

Honestly, eating is number 1. I know people that eat very healthily and don't work out, but are very fit. Weight is lost in the kitchen, muscle is built in the gym, but muscle can only be made if you get enough protein and other nutrition, so basically it always goes back to food! Fruits, veggies, nuts, grains, lean meats and LOTS OF WATER. Most Americans are chronically dehydrated, and we mistake thirst for hunger!
Don't make it so much about weight, make it about keeping yourself well.
Good luck :)

A wise man once said, "The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The next best WORD is NOW." I think if you start now instead of looking for the best way to lose weight you'll never get started. The best way for me is drink lots of water, eat smaller portion of my meals and do walking, swimming(if you have back ache or other joint limitations.) I usually do 10 minute work out from "Hasfit" from youtube.

Hmm before actually trying to lose weight you should prepare your body for it by trying to detox for at least a week by eating nothing but fruits and veggies. Then change your eating habbits to bad to good but don't cut out carb's totally like some people do that would put you risk for diabetus if you cut all or most. You could try several small meals a day that has helped some or you could try going with the meals you have now but making them smaller or substituting a healthy  item for a bad with that meal. Say like if you like bacon and still want bacon go with turkey bacon its more healthier . If you can try to go for a 30 minute walk a day. Don't buy prepackaged food always make fresh because the extra calories you can lose because of it. IF you don't like exercise then do house work that will be your exercise pretty much. When going to the grocery store or any store choose a parking space that's a little more away from the entrance so you can get more exercise that way to . Drink plenty of water and thats all i have lol

I have been trying to lose weight.  I have gained about 10 pounds since last year.  I have lost 5 pounds of it so far and going to get more off before long.  I hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.

I think that, first of all, you have to determine whether weight loss is what you want to achieve or if looking better and feeling better is what your ultimate goal is. You can starve yourself and lose all kinds of weight but still have a less than desirable body ie pot belly, love handles, cottage cheese thighs. Personally I like to look good so I combine three days of work out, three days of cardiovascular work out and a healthy diet of six average sized meals per day with a cheat day on Sundays.  The meals should be a palm sized portion of protein and another palm sized portion of carbohydrates along with some vegetables.

Best thing to do when trying to lose weight is start off small.. Your body is acclemated to your daily routine already.. SO if you start off small then it will be acclemated to the new routine and will better your results.. By starting off small i mean.. Replacing a piece of junkfood or a midday snack with something healthy maybe an apple.. Then you can start with portion control.. Maybe smaller portions.. Of what you are eating already.. When trying to lose weight it is important to remember your body also needs the fats and protein that sometimes diets just do not give your body.. Which is another main reason diets DO not work.. That and lack of commitment.. No matter what you take or try.. If you are not commited to it.. It will not work.. That is a fact... You can also try to start a exersize or two before or after you wake up... It's the easiest way to get your body use to something the fastest without doing it all at once and straining muscles in your body.. :D I'm no expert but that's how i think most people end up giving up on diets and exersizing all together.. Good luck on losing weight!

Best advice I've ever received (and I've probably posted about it before) is; take your weight and divide it in 2.  The answer you get is the amount of ounces in water you should drink daily.  To do this drink one bottle of water before and during each meal.  After about 3 days trips to the bathroom shorten.

Different food programs work well for different people.  Find a way to maintain your lean body mass and get your nutrients so you won't lose your health at the same time that you're losing weight.

Don't think so hard on it, just do it. Just eat a little less everyday and just move. Even if that moving is just taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking farther away from the store. Just do it. Oh and drink more water and get enough sleep.
