I heard a server say "what it look like.?"
She meant to be asking the question "what does it look like?"
The person wasn't aware that she was being asked a question.

I was at Outback this week. We were in the lobby waiting for 2 other friends. When they came in the hostess said 'can I SAT you now?' I really think she meant sit you now.

My advice is that we all start learning Spanish or Arabic as this country is being taken over by both groups, English is a dying language. Even Democrat nominee Hillary uses broken English when at a speech she said "I'm in no ways tired".

Cant go wrong with sign language.Easily understood.
Who doesnt know what a thumbs up or down & middle finger mean???That covers a lot of ground!

Maybe grammar is not being taught as well in our schools. I know that handwriting certainly isn't being taught. Some of the kids of today have such messy handwritings.
-
Texting doesn't teach good grammar at all..

My GF received an e-mail from one of her kids' English teachers.... What was so sad was the numerous grammatical errors in it. If I get an e-mail from a business client that has grammar mistakes, it sometimes catches me off-guard for a moment, but when it is coming from an English teacher, it is really disturbing. It begs the question what the kids are actually learning in school...

That's what I see more and more is the "text talk". Sometimes I can't even understand what they're trying to say or type out. I think texting has given an excuse, so to speak, not to learn proper grammar...or spelling for that matter. Texting wasn't around when I was in school and I just don't remember this being an issue like it is today.

Some do talk like that!

sad huh? people were smarter years ago and even spoke many languages at a young age. Society has dumbed down alot... I am bilingual and strive to learn more in my 30's... People are comfortable in their ignorance i guess.

Our society has been "dumbed down" by the use of computers. The "text talk" and the being able to look up info so quickly has made our reasoning and vocalizing so very limited! Such a shame! Technology is such a great tool if used wisely, but, open a book once in a while, and you can learn so very much.

I hear poor English often, but that's how lots of people speak (depending on who you hang around).
-
I used to use "text talk" when texts had limited characters; I think it used to be only 60 characters to one message, so shorthand was more efficient than sending 3-5 different texts just to get the point across. I don't anymore because there's no need for it.
However, I don't understand conversing in emojis. I understand using them to emphasize your message or as a reaction, but not as conversation.

Nothing has changed people. JUST get a book and Read. There are illiterate people thank goodness its user friendly

I went into a McDonalds last week and none of the worker's spoke English. Normally I would have walked out due to poor management but I speak Spanish and was running behind. I ordered two breakfasts got into my car and found that one was empty. I went back in, spoke with the manager who assured me that my breakfast would be replaced immediately. After ten minutes of waiting, and seeing numerous other people leaving with meals identical to what I had ordered, I blew a fuse. I said in an uncomfortably loud voice that my meal was next using words that are not acceptable in this (or any) post. The manager apologized profusely in Spanish and appeared to be quite relieved when I left. I am quite certain that I looked like Michael Douglas in the movie "Falling Down".

I found myself doing it while texting.
