Title: Quiting Job
Post by: tnshpalmer85 on April 30, 2019, 04:51:23 pm
Have you ever felt bad about quitting a job even though you know it is for the best? You have prepared in advance to quit because it is something you thought about for months, you are overqualified for the current job, but you still feel kind of bad about the fact that you are quitting.

I just had to leave a job I really liked because we relocated.  I understand.  Even though I prepared my boss well in advance, I still felt bad.

Yes quitting is a challenge. When it's for the betterment, then we shouldn't sweat it too much. Sometimes change is essential.

I've felt bad about leaving some of the people I worked with, but the job itself, no.

I never quit a job even if I don't like it.

So you are still working on the first job you were ever hired for?  And if not and you have had several jobs you were fired from all of them?

Why would you stay at a job you hated?  I have done that before but it was a temporary job and I knew it was ending soon so even though I was miserable I stuck it out.

Yes, I've felt that way. But you have to do what's best for you.

It is nothing new: Some employees quit their jobs or leave their place of work for many reasons.
Here are some reasons they quit: Conflict of interest, job dissatisfaction, safety problems or they
have found a better job or move on to greener pastures. Companies and employers know all the
    reasons their employees leave.

Not at all. I had to quit that job because it was affecting my mental health. Found something better right after that.

It depends on why you quit the job.  If it's for your peace of mind, then go for it.

I had to leave my last job because they wouldn't work around my university schedule. It sucked, but my education is more important. I've just been on here and similar sites - I don't have many "necessary" expenses, so it's easy to take care of myself on a pretty minimal income.

Your education is more important, it's good to hear about people going after their long term goals, instead of the immediate satisfaction of short term ones.   Knock out schooling, you'll have it for the rest of your life :)

I have in the past. If you are miserable there is no reason to stay. It's not worth it. I stayed at one when I was young and was so miserable I couldn't sleep. I would get up in the morning and my whole body ached because I was so stressed out and tense all of the time.

The three times I "quit", one was employer based, the other two were because I just simply had to for better opportunities. It can be tough at first, but often can be a blessing in disguise!

I have never thought it was tough to quit a job and move on to something better.

The only time I had to quit a job was to go to a better job.  I worked at the new job until I retired 32 years later.

I quit  a job that I really liked (World Bazar)  It was  neat  job and loved the customers. But the manger/owner of the store  would not keep his hands to himself. So after repeatedly telling him to quit rubbing   up against me in tight  spaces. I decked him and  quit. Called his wife and told I quit. She wanted to know why and I told her. guess he had  been doing this before.  She divorced him,  kept  half of the stores they owned.  The  next day I had a new job. Was up front  with the new owner as to why I did not  need to give the  other  bus. any 2 week notice. Better job, lot more pay and I loved it.

I did until a company called myself along with others and told us that our jobs was being outsourced overseas and that we had to train them.  That is when I realized that to most large companies you are just a number.

I recently quit my part time job. I do feel bad about quitting my job because I loved it. However my health is declining and I could no longer keep up with the physical part of my job.

I have quit a few jobs. Most recently a law firm I was working at was slowly dissolving. I didn't want to come in one day and find the doors closed, so when people started leaving, I started looking.

Yes, I quit my job of 20 years last summer, I know I was doing the best for me, I had been working on a very toxic environment for the past few years and I need the change, it was really difficult to tell my then manager I was leaving, he got mad and thru a guilt hand on me.  It was stressful but I was so relieve once I left and my new job is 100% better.

Yes I quit a job in 2000 that I had for 14 1/2 years with our local school district.  It paid well and had good benefits but I was miserable there from day one.  I quit and went to a call center where I was very successful and actually enjoyed the work.

Oh lol had a senior moment when I did my reply.  I was miserable for 14 1/2 years and I was an adult with a family and I knew it was time to move on but I still felt bad because my mother believed if you had a good paying job then you don't quit even if the people there were driving you to illness you were so miserable.

lol.  They were outsourcing your job to another country and they wanted YOU to train the people who would take your job?  That is pretty bad.  But I have been in that situation before.  I just didn't know at the time what was going on.  When I figured it out I moved on to something better.

Was this an inbound only call center? Or where you make telemarketing calls?  There are several call centers in a couple of counties over from me.  It is suppose to be inbound except if you are calling "customers". lol.  They are always hiring so I assume they have trouble keeping people working in them.

I know people who have stayed in a job they hated because it paid good.  And I can see that if you cannot get anything that pays as well as what you have.  I know people who have done that.  They hated the job but it paid really well for the area they were in.

But I can see what you are saying - if you are unhappy then you should move on.  Being happy is better than having money.

Sure I've felt that way, but it's far superior to being fired from your job. That always hurts.  :(

dont feeel bad as change is good plus you need to be paid what youre worth. Quitting is a challenge cause if thngs go bad you need to go back to previous employer. is best to leave on good terms. You still have to pass 90 day probation.

I recently quit my job that I had for 20 years. I just couldn't handle the lack of ethics and accountability there. Management was not good. I became a totally different person when I was there and started to hate the way I acted. I have them a 4 month notice but took 5 months to find a replacement. I wanted to make sure I had one month to train my replacement. Unfortunately, I am now having a problem with finding another job. I had a hard time looking for other work when I wasn't sure when I would have a replacement for my position.

No, Though I quit cause one of the project managers disrespect one of my family members that I was working with, So I stood up to him and it ended up with an argument after that the boss came out to apologize to my family member and me but by then I had no interest in working in the same place with that scum. Funny thing is after few months a buddy I made that work at the same place told me he was fired for disrespecting people again. So.......  :)

Hello!

Yes, there was one job that was good to me but it was just so little money. When I found out a new job with better pay was opening up I left and never looked back. Nonetheless, I did feel bad the way I left it. I don't think it is a matter of feeling bad or not. Why should you feel bad about getting a better job for yourself? I'm here in New York and it's pretty expansive so if you can get one good job and not three why should you feel guilty about that? Always look out for your own best interest as no one else will.
