If someone asked you for your opinion, if you knew it would hurt their feelings, would you lie to them? Sometimes this could be hard to answer. But sometimes the truth hurts.
-
I would tell them the truth. I would be kind and gentle toward them as well.
-
I would tell them the truth as gently as I could.
-
It would depend on who the person is and my relationship to them. A good friend or a relative I would be honest. If I'm not close to the person or if I thought the person's feelings would be hurt, I might lie, it would depend on what it was they wanted my opinion.
-
I like to find something to say that is true, but not hurtful. For example, if someone asks you if their hair looks OK today, you could say " It's not your best look, but it's OK" or something like that that's not directly hurtful to say.
-
I would hate to do it, but if it was someone I was really close too and had a good relationship with I would be tempted to lie to stop from hurting their feelings. The only way I would absolutely tell the truth was if I could calibrate the situation and their feelings enough to feel like I wouldn't hurt them. And if I was truthful I would try to be as diplomatic and gentle as possible with them and explain that there are no hard feelings and that it is not personal.
-
I wouldn't lie. If someone wants your honest opinion, they don't want to hear your lies. And if they can't handle the truth, they shouldn't have asked.
-
For me, that depends on who I am talking to and what the situation is
-
It really depends, but tell the truth whenever possible.
-
I would only lie if telling the truth would cause irrepairable damage.

I don't know. If you tell them the truth then they will not only get mad at you but go tell everybody you said "this" and not tell that they asked for your opinion. And then others get mad at you.
I am to the point that I would just say "I am not going to answer that".

That would still hurt someone's feelings. I would just say it looks fine to me.

Mean is mean. so what is the levels of mean. If you don't tell the truth about to you friend, they will be in a cycle of ify, only if you no care than don't. :-\
-
I would just say that I don’t have an opinion to share. I only feel that saying something negative would be okay if you feel annoyed by that person and don’t want to have to suffer his or her torturing you.
-
It all depends on the situation, but I would tell the truth regardless because it is the right thing to do. Lies will only get you in more trouble or come back to bite you.
-
Tells the truth always...no lies, please.
If the truth is going to hurt anyone, just keep quiet.
Do not say anything!
-
I don't know if I would "lie" per se, but I might find creative ways to be positive about a situation until they are in a better state of mind to process everything...
-
I would be honest depending of the questions and the relationship
-
I think it really depends on the specific circumstances. I try not to lie outright, but there are times when softening the truth is better than just telling it outright.
-
Tell the truth always but sometimes skirt the issue if possible

I guess but at the same time why would you go up and ask somebody do you like my new hair cut. If you do not want to know what the person thinks then do not ask them. Personally I do not care what people think about my clothes, hair shoes, or what ever.
It is different if you go and ASK for somebody's opinion than if they just interject it in to your life. :D

Best to keep your pie hole shut !
-
It depends on the situation, but I will always try to tell the truth because one lie will turn into another than another and so forth. Tell the truth
-
Depends what kind of lie it is, how important the truth is.
-
really depends on the sitaution..nd how harmful it cn be...try to tell the truth if at all possible..

Most times...yes. Even when people ask they do not really want your opinion. And before you ask someone else --- Do you really want theirs? Do you really care what somebody thinks of your hair?
And a lot of times when your hair looks bad and somebody comes up and says how good it looks - they are really just making fun of the person.

Not if it is just a simple question such as do you like my hair or does my outfit look okay.

One can use discernment to speak the truth. But it should never be substituted for a lie.
The truth should never be substituted for a lie?
-
I guess it depends on who they are. More than likely I would tell the truth though.

I tell the truth and it sometimes gets me in trouble UGH

There are ways to answer without lying and without causing problems. If say it is about a new hair cut - just say it looks fine. What does YOUR opinion really even matter? I do not like a lot of people's hair style. MY opinion really doesn't matter.
Mostly I would be vague or not say anything because these days people are just looking for a fight.
-
I would rather tell the truth then lie. Lies can and will trip you up at sometime or other. You can be gentle with them instead of harsh words. If I know someone is telling lies about someone else, I would rather not be around them and tell them so. And when someone tries to put me in the middle of it. I just back away and don't hang with them any.
-
I think it depends on the situation but I would gently tell them the truth as lying is not going to help them in the long run!
-
I guess it depends who it is and what the lie would be. In general, I try to be honest though.

Hello!
Yes, I lie sometimes I think we are all guilty of that. Nonetheless telling a lie can be a lot more painful without you even noticing.
-
depends on sitiation
-
I always tell the truth but I ask them first if they really want the truth even though it might hurt them. If they say they do, then I give it to them. If they become hurt by what I say I talk it through until they feel better about what was said.

Not sure you can make them feel better. If they have a new hair cut and they ask you if you like it and you say no it looks stupid - how can you make them feel better? Tell them well it is my opinion and MY opinion does not matter. lol
-
I would ask the person if they want to know the truth because it will hurt. I would leave it up to the person to make the decision because sometimes people don't want to hear the truth because they already know it.

I would think that comment would make them mad. IF I asked for someone's opinion on something and they replied do you really want me to tell you the truth because the truth is going to hurt I would be ticked off.
And no, they don't already "know" the truth. If someone is asking hey does my hair look okay and you think it doesn't do you really need to insult them or put them down? OR say do you really want me to answer that because my answer will hurt? Just say it looks fine and go on.
-
No, I would tell them the truth it will only hurt a bit and for awhile but then it depends on the person on how long it takes.
-
I think it depends on the person or the occasion...
-
As most people in this thread pointed out, it really depends on the situation, the person, etc. However, for the most part, I would lean towards truth-telling.
-
Truth, if it hurts, work through the pain together.
-
I would gently try to tell them the truth. Especially if they are asking my opinion. If they don't ask, I don't say anything. :-X
-
Tell the truth for work and lie to women
-
Depends. When my mom asks if I like her top, I'd lie. When my brother asks if he screwed up doing drugs, I'd tell the truth.
-
Depends on what it is. Sometimes you can say something related that would be true. Like ugly baby pictures. Rather than saying that's a face only mother could love, you could say, that's a nice picture. Unless, of course, it's not a nice picture.
