Title: Christmas shopping.
Post by: singletonb on September 21, 2020, 08:09:53 pm
I know that there are a few of you out there that have already started  your Christmas shopping.  How many of you have gotten started, how many of you are finished and how many of you won't do any shopping at all?

I have been thinking about it, and since we cannot get out a lot I had better get with it now for the little people.  The adults understand late but not the kids.

I wonder where you live that you are not allowed to be outside of your home. My state never had any kind of lock down or restrictions on being out.  As for the kids not understanding that is all in how you teach them.  If you teach kids Christmas is all about getting a ton of presents then yeah that is what they expect.  I don't expect the shopping to be any slower than any other year for most people.

Yes you do! It is only 92 days until Christmas! :D

I want to order some stuff.  I need to get on that.  I figure things may be slower in shipping with so many more people ordering online now than before.

I have 7 grandkids, the oldest being 6.  A 3 year old no matter what you teach do not get it yet.  I said I could not get out a lot, malls are not open here in California everywhere yet .  I also take care of 2 adults in their 90's and several young children every day, besides 3 that are on virtual home schooling.  Mail is very much slower, I do mailing daily of cds and dvds for a company, it is taking several days longer since all the mess at the post office for the deliveries.  I check daily to see where packages are, because people think they can always get overnight.  So yes with the circumstances of this year here, it will take a bit longer to get Christmas shopping done.  Plus a lot of our Christmas gifts have to be mailed, so once they are here I still have to get them mailed out.

I have heard a lot of the big sales will be online this year.  If they are still pushing the distance thing it is going to be hard to have big in store sales. But the dumos don't care if they shut down businesses.

All my grandkids are grown and money is what they want, so Christmas "Shopping" really isn't shopping!  I miss looking for those little gifts.  :(

I have started thinking about holiday shoppings and begin to look at deals online. For this year, I will primarily focus online shopping and prefer to give people more experiences rather than material goods. Look forward to hearing what others might be doing.

I haven't started yet and probably won't do any shopping until after Thanksgiving. I used to really be into buying Christmas presents for all my nieces and nephews and grandchildren but I just don't have the Christmas spirit this year because of COVID. I have lost touch with most of the family that isn't close by.

I started shopping in June and did the bulk of my shopping last night as part of Prime days. I have a few small things that I would like to order within ten days from China which I assume will take six to eight weeks to get to my home but they aren't real make it or break it items. Just things that would be a nice surprise. My son and I are going to make a few items for my daughter and wife that we saw on a few sites and look as if they would not be too hard to duplicate. My wife has asked that we minimize any additional purchases so that we do not go overboard. We have a fairly large group joining us for Thanksgiving and a few family members that will receive their Christmas gifts at that time as they will be unable to make it back for Christmas.

I purchased gift cards for my friends and loved ones this past weekend. In the past, I used to purchase presents, however, some of them were either not well received or I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what some of them wanted. Nowadays, it is either gift cards or cash. SO much more convenient for me.

Unless it was something completely stupid I don't know why people do not receive gifts well.  If you know the person you would know what they like.  I have never gotten a gift from someone close to me that I disliked.  I have got gifts from people at church or when we done co-workers (I don't do that any more) that were of no use and basically the same as nothing.  Personally I would rather have a actual thing than just money.  And with gift cards you need to make sure it is something useful to the person.  We got a gift card for a steak house that is over an hour away from us a few years ago.  I don't know that it ever even got used.
