Off-Topic / Schools in crisis
« on: March 18, 2011, 06:24:54 am »Message ID: 327538
Are your school districts having a budget crisis? Ours are. Thousands of teachers will be losing their jobs here soon because of budget cuts which is sad because they just went through this last year. The problem? From what I can see, it's because they resigned the superintendent's contract- the very same man who couldn't maintain the district's budget last year! And the contract is for big $$! Seriously, what is wrong with people?

My advice to the teachers that get laid off- start your own home-school. Think about it: so many parents worry about overcrowding in the classroom. If you offered to take on just 10 students, maybe just from one grade level, and charged $100 a week per student, that's not bad money. You just have to follow the local guidelines for home schooling and then the teacher and parents can work together on the curriculum. Almost seems like a win-win.

If you could pick 3 famous people- dead or alive- to have around your dinner table one night, who would you pick?

Off-Topic / Fast food = $$$$

Has anyone noticed how expensive fast food has been getting?! Last night I swung into Sonic to get dinner (an unusual treat for us) and for two meals it cost $21! I couldn't believe it! We could've gone to Chili's and spent a few dollars more and had a nice dinner out. Crazy! Has anyone else suffered sticker shock at the local drive thru?

We will be having a pot of Hoppin John and some cornbread to kick off the New Year! Hoppin John is a mix of black eye peas (for luck) and ham (for prosperity) with tomatoes and jalapenos and rice. Yum!

Do you guys do anything special to ring in the New Year?

What do you do with those "what were they thinking?!" presents? Are you one to thank them and hide it in the back of a closet? Do you immediately return it to any store willing to take it back? Or do you let a few months pass and then regift it to someone who might actually like it?

Off-Topic / Christmas decorations...

Is this crazy? Yesterday my family was at Home Depot so my hubby could get -yet another- tool. I browsed the Christmas aisle looking at all the flashy colors and lights (shiny!) and I actually started to feel....weepy? How weird is that? Just thinking about being able to put up a tree and yard ornaments for my daughter's second Christmas...last year it wasn't possible even if she had known what was going on..we were so poor it was all we could do to get gifts for our families. Does anyone else get choked up about these things?

I just read the story about the video game developer that was killed by a drunk driver- he swerved the car to protect his pregnant wife's side of the car and ended up taking the force of the crash on his side, killing him. Everyday there's another story about drunk drivers causing deadly crashes and more often than not they are repeat offenders. I think that the first offense should require the breathalizer- ignition device and if it happens again, you just lose your license- no suspension, just gone, here's your bus pass. Giving these people third and fourth chances is ridiculous! What measures do you think need to be taken to get these people off the roads?

Who is your favorite TV couple? I have to say it's a tie here for me...I will admit to crying on that last episode of Friends when Rachel came in at the end. And I also cried when Jim proposed to Pam...AND when they got married....so I have to say I love them both equally. lol anyone else a sap for TV romances?

Who is your pick? Arnold? Stallone? The winner in this house is Clint Eastwood. If there is a marathon on TV featuring Clint, we watch it, even if we own them!

Off-Topic / Am I crazy?
« on: September 02, 2010, 07:44:08 am »Message ID: 230947
So, my boyfriend and I have been together 2+ years and we have a 15 month old daughter. We're a happy family and a pretty strong couple. I recently started taking issue with his ex-girlfriend. They are still on friendly terms which is not a big deal at all, but since I've met her, I get the feeling that she is still into him. These are the things that make me think "Hmm..." so tell me, please, if I'm crazy to be suspicious of her. **I have total trust in my BF and have no worries on his part, just her**
1) We were invited to her son's b-day party and her mother made a point of mentioning that she (the ex) made sure to make the cake a spice cake because she knew it was my bf's favorite.
2) She sends him "forward" texts about loving him and to send it back if he feels the same.
3) She sends pics of naked girls (not her, more porno-type stuff)
4) She went a while not talking to him while she was in a relationship, but now she's single again, she sends him txt everyday.
5) Her mother gives me the stink-eye when I'm with him
6) She invited "us" to her sisters birthday at the lake
My boyfriend agrees she's being a little to clingy lately but doesn't want to see me get all crazy so I agreed to let it go. What do you guys think?
