Off-Topic / Unexpected Tenant
« on: August 20, 2014, 10:50:03 am »Message ID: 910731
Yesterday, when I went out to mail something, I found a couple pretty tall sand mounds on either side of one of my front walkway cement blocks.  They looked like ants had built high rise hotels over night as I didn't recall seeing them the previous day.

So, I tried the trick of dumping boiling water on the mounts to get the ants to move (and kill some along the way as any colony making them that big, that fast, had to be a lot).  So I washed both away and planned to see if they came back.

Much to my surprise, within a couple hours, the mounds were almost back.  I'd never seen ants build a mount that fast.  So then I decided to go for the bug killer spray.  I dumped some over one mound.  Then as I started dumping onto the other mound - much to my surprise, a giant female bumblebee emerged from the far side of the sand!

I quickly backed away into the house as the bumble flew off over the front yard.

I know bumblebees are mostly docile, and it was the only one that emerged, so I think it was a young female looking for a place to hibernate in a couple months.  I hope I didn't accidentally kill it with the insecticide, but there's no way she's taking up residence under my front sidewalk - way too dangerous for anyone coming to my door - and me, as I have an allergy to bee stings.

I'll keep monitoring to see if she comes back or if she was scared away (hopefully not dead!).  If she comes back, I'll try watering her out by using my hose to make the space not livable so she finds someplace else with less human traffic.  Must admit - that was a first.

I've seen bumblebees flying around the house, just never burrowing under a sidewalk.  I had a nest/hive in my backyard this summer in some thatch I dumped back there, I left it alone as they helped pollinate my garden and it was in the corner of the lot - easy to avoid.

Was amazed at how fast that thing built its home in the sidewalk cracks - never seen anything like it.

Suggestions / Message to Referrals?
« on: April 28, 2014, 01:37:25 pm »Message ID: 874302
I'm just starting to test the waters with advertising for referrals (vs directly recruiting friends/family) and looks like I got my first referral from this method.  That got me thinking if the referral does not make their email address available to me, there is no way I can communicate with them.

I noticed on a couple other sites I work where the referral page allows the referrer to post a custom text message to any referrals.  I was thinking this might be a good idea to help keep new referrals that come from these general advertising sources.

By allowing a message, I think this would go a long way to retaining new members as I would be able to post a personal welcome message and provide intro tips to get them going.  I know one complaint by some new people, based on the forum, is that it can be a bit overwhelming when one starts.  Maybe having a communication method such as this may help retain new recruits by providing them a more personalized welcome to the site and someone they can develop a trust with to get questions answered until they figure out the lay of the land.

On the other sites, this message feature doesn't seem very fancy - just a way to save a message that only direct referrals can view, and the referrer can update the message as they see fit.

Suggestions / New Site Layout Glitches
« on: August 09, 2013, 07:06:39 am »Message ID: 778236
Admin - I'm liking the new layout.  Since it's new, I'm going to assume people who try it out will notice things that might be glitchy so I thought I'd start this topic to save on your "problems" submissions if people could comment on issues they find for you to collect and tweak in the short term.

I read in the "New DCE" topic that someone had issues with the verification this morning.  I too am using Firefox and did not have any issues.  Not sure if something changed between their accessing it and me..but worked fine for me.

The only glitch I encountered is when working the PTC task, when I click on the sponsored links, the link opens up in the current window/tab vs opening in a new window/tab (still working on current FF version 23).  After I clicked on the sponsored link, I did use the browser nav button to back up to the PTC page and the system did record my selection, so that was good.  Just seems the code rendering it just needs to include a tag to direct the browser to open it in a new tab/window.

I like the general layout - much easier to navigate to common places in the site compare with the old design.  I found the Forum Posting link on the account page to be very useful - much easier than drilling down the links on the current path from the anchored forum post.

My only "preference" is I liked the old site color scheme a little better.  I think the darker green is more distinctive of the Fusion Cash brand.  The current color scheme makes me feel like I'm working some other GPT sites - the closest is Cash4Offers - they use a very similar color scheme on their site.  I would suggest keeping the darker green color scheme, but that's just my opinion.

Nice work!

I'll keep an eye out if you create a sticky forum entry for reporting glitches like this if one already exists elsewhere.

Suggestions / Chrome Alert App?
« on: July 05, 2013, 07:40:26 am »Message ID: 761493
I was reading the thread about people wanting a Chrome toolbar, and I understand it's the architecture of the browser that prevents that from being an option.

Then I had a thought for the FC Chrome users out there - instead of a toolbar, maybe an alert app could be an option.  I'm also a member of the Neobux site, and they created an alert app that notifies when new ads are available to click, and when there are tasks available (if there are 100 or more tasks remaining).  I know they have this alert available for Chrome and Firefox (maybe others).

I don't know exactly what Neobux is using to trigger the app notifications, and if FC is setup similarly to leverage - but I was thinking if this was possible, some "notification" items that might be useful would be (1) Tasks, like NB, notify users when there are human tasks available with more than 100 tasks remaining - that  way they can have a greater chance of getting access to them, (2) videos - notify when videos hit their queue to watch, (3) surveys - notify if they have surveys in their daily FC Survey queue.

Having those in a Chrome (or FF) app might be an alternate short cut option for Chrome users - plus the app would of course have a link to get to FC with one click as well.

Thought I'd toss this out if it had not been considered yet.

Suggestions / New PTC requirement - alternate tracking suggestion
« on: July 03, 2013, 02:06:38 pm »Message ID: 760608
I read the posted heads up about the new requirement to make 5 cents in offers before one can complete the PTC offer.  In principle, I have no issues with this request.  Completely reasonable.

I got to thinking about this, and I see a potential that this could create problems at times for people.  Although it is rare, there are times where the offer well is a bit dry - no videos, little to no tasks (and sometimes if one already completed the ones listed, they may need to wait a week or so before allowed to work them again), cannot qualify for any surveys, cannot qualify for offers on main page (or none of the offers are suitable - like a non-smoker, I would not want to sign up for a cigar for the month club offer just to be able to do the PTC)...

On some other sites I work, they seem to have a similar issue and resolved it by using a "percentage for checkout" option.  Similar to what FC currently has where we need to make $15 in offers before we can cashout - perhaps an alternate to the 5 cents every day would be use a percentage before cashout.

With your proposal, I calculated if a person only does the minimum - for every 22 cents made, 77% can be the PTC and daily email (17 cents), and 23% needs to be other offers (5 cents).  If you rounded that up, basically what you're desiring is that of the offer money made, you need 25% of the money to come from non-daily email/non-PTC offers.

The advantage I see of a percentage based solution is if people are too busy to work some of the offers or sit for an hour to listen to Radio loyalty - they can still do the daily PTC and "make-up" the money later when they do have time.  If their ratio is less than 25%, then they simply cannot cashout until they get that ratio up at their own time.  It give the user more flexibility to still comply with the financial goals, and will also mitigate times when the offer well is dry and people start complaining they cannot do the PTC because they cannot make their mandatory 5 cents.

I know the new 5 cent requirement coding is probably in the final testing phase for roll out in the next couple weeks, but I thought I'd toss this option out in case after it rolls out, there are complaints regarding the ability to make the 5 cents every day, perhaps this option could be considered as an alternate solution to make it more manageable for workers to be able to work the PTC and still obtain the desired FC financial needs.

FusionCash / Shopping Toolbar Credit surpirsed me
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:32:03 am »Message ID: 624081
I love the FC shopping toolbar!  This morning I was pleasantly surprised with a $1.11 credit for an order I placed at the cell phone shop.  I just got a new phone and found this is a great place to pick up cheap accessories.  I had no idea that site was on the FC shopping list.

Thanks FC for being the best site!

Off-Topic / The Baptist Cowboy
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:41:18 am »Message ID: 574192
A cowboy, who just moved to Wyoming from Texas, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.
The bartender approaches  and tells the cowboy, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time."
The cowboy replies,  "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona, the other is in Colorado. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my  brothers and one for myself."
The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.
The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.
One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."
The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs.
"Oh, no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking."
"Hasn't affected my brothers though."

I'm so psyched - I'm leaving in a few hours to participate in the self-proclaimed "World's Largest Trivia Contest"!  It's a 54 hour trivia contest run over the student radio station (the whole contest is the major fund raiser for the radio station).  I've been playing in it for years and look forward to this every year.  The team is really stoked this year.  We've never won this contest, but we've come close (2nd place in 2008)!  Here's hoping maybe this year will be our year to finally win this silly thing.   ;D

Support / AdBot video ad redirects?
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:05:29 am »Message ID: 518571
Just wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue.  Ever since the AdBot in the forum started displaying video/animation ads, occasionally I'm being redirected off the forum.  I'm finding this very distracting and annoying.

I know it's not every video, just occasional ones.  I know I've encountered this behavior on other sites that run similar video/animation ads.

I know it's not a FC issue - it's the code embedded in the video ads.  I'm using the latest version of FF mostly.  Wanted to see if others were having this issue, and if so, bring it to FC's attention in case there is something they can do to suppress the redirects.

Off-Topic / Interesting Documentaries
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:23:16 pm »Message ID: 473711
I just watched a couple interesting documentaries this week.

"Life in a Day" - this was the YouTube clip assembled documentary, where the filmmakers advertised for people to submit video clips of whatever they did on a particular day in July 2010, and answer some questions on the video too.  Some reviews I read were analyzing the film like it was supposed to have meaning or a storyline.  What I read was this was supposed to be more of a video time capsule.  I found it a very interesting and oddly pleasant documentary.  There were some very interesting clips from cultures around the world.  There was one scene that showed a cow being slaughtered in some country farm - warning to anyone wanting to watch; but outside of that, most of the rest was beautiful, some funny, some a little thought provoking.

"Inside Job" - this is a documentary that chronicles the events that lead to the financial meltdown in the US.  Interestingly, some of the publications noted in the documentary (Fortune magazine and BusinessWeek) I actually still have copies and was able to read the articles cited (very interesting reads in retrospect of what happened).  I found the documentary to be a fairly balanced accounting of events - although I will not say that I'm an authority on the subject matter in any way shape or form, but much of what was presented I had heard from other sources I trust at a much higher level than the documentary went.  One thing I found very interesting, and was pleasantly surprised, was it kept its focus primarily on the financial industry, and did not slant much with political parties (as I feared it might).  What seemed a bit more frightening, was that these events have been slowly brewing since the late 70's, and interesting enough, every administration, in their own way, contributed to making the situation worse (up to and including the present one).  Perhaps after watching this, rather than blaming "this" or "that" administration for the failures, we may need to shift our focus to the industry driving this (like in the Wizard of Oz, "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..." - well, maybe we should...?).  Very fascinating account, and the way it ends, you realize the people currently in charge of our purse strings are the ones 2 decades ago contributed to setting up the collapse.  Will we (the big "WE") never learn?

Anyone else see either of these?  What were your thoughts/impressions?

Anyone see any other documentaries they found interesting?  If so, please share.  I seem to be on a documentary kick and wouldn't mind some recommendations.

Support / Is this disqualifying searches?
« on: December 27, 2011, 01:35:21 pm »Message ID: 466000
I've noticed when I do a search, my counter increments as I'd expect.  When I get the results, I'll select a link to view the information, but if the site doesn't contain the information I'm looking for, I hit the back button on the browser to get back to the original search result list to choose another link.  When I do this, I see a popup that said I executed an illegal search (but I didn't "re-do" the search from the toolbar, I just backed up from a site to the original list).  Is using the back button on the browser confusing the toolbar search thinking I'm duplicating searches when I'm not - thus I'm causing my searches to be deemed "illegal" and not credit?

Thought I'd ask as this is how I typically use search results for whatever I'm hunting - go back and forth between the results until I find what I'm seeking.  If the toolbar invalidates my original search due to this behavior, then I guess I won't be counting on searches for income (I don't search that much anyway so no big deal).

But I am curious if maybe that might be the reason why I have not been credited - and if so, is this expected behavior (to disqualify the original search as one is trying to evaluate more than one of the search results)?

I know I had problems with another site's toolbar search not crediting me for searches either, and it appears both FC and the other site were using similar GPT searching tools, so it made me wonder if the reason was due to how I'm using the results...

Thoughts?

Support / Unusual Task Disqualification?
« on: October 29, 2011, 10:38:07 am »Message ID: 438803
Hi - just wondering if anyone else is trying to work the human tasks today and is being disqualified after the first panel?  I've worked these a lot (one of my main money makers), but today after trying to work different tasks here and on another site using a different vendor providing the tasks - they all are disqualifying after submitting the first panel.  I've worked these tasks successfully in the past and know I was submitting valid information, so I'm a bit confused.

Wondering if others are experiencing the same thing - if so, I'll assume it's a temporary glitch with their system and come back later to see if it's been fixed.  I already submitted a feedback request to them via their form wondering if there's some global glitch causing this - but I figured I'd check here to see if others were experiencing this too...that it's not just me.

Also, if others are experiencing it (and particularly if you are new), this behavior is very unusual.  So my advice would be to work some surveys today and check to see if the tasks are functioning normal again tomorrow.  Typically if you submit information the system thinks is invalid, you get a screen indicating which test answers didn't match with their key before you continue in "training mode" or are then "disqualified" - today I'm not getting that explanation screen indicating which answers didn't match their key.

Offers / Super simple tasks
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:41:34 pm »Message ID: 378590
There's a series of really easy tasks to do if you like tasks.  I know the list is cluttered with expired ones, but these are active and work.  Easy $0.60.:

Special: Answer a few questions about websites (job 2!) - 6da5a8ef 2011-07-02  $0.20 Approved
Special: Answer a few questions about websites! - a1567062 2011-07-02  $0.20 Approved
Special: Answer a few questions about websites (job 3!) - 88d93831 2011-07-02  $0.12 Approved
Special: Answer a few questions about websites (job 4!) - c2790bef 2011-07-02  $0.04 Approved
Special: Answer a few questions about websites (job 4a!) - 787a4ad5 2011-07-02  $0.04 Approved

There's also a "job 5" out there from last week.  If you have not done that one yet, you might be able to get another $0.04 working that.  If you worked that last week, you won't be able to do it this week.  I'm using another site which shows the number of tasks remaining, and there appears to only be 30 of these left, so this one may expire quickly.

Just 2 things to be careful with -

1.  Choose the "Answer a few questions about websites!" task for $0.20, not the $0.24 one - the $0.24 one is expired.

2.  For one of the tasks (I think it's the "4a" one), the task asks for a "fisher investments fees" link to select, however I didn't get that when following their instructions.  I selected a "fisher investments performance" link, then selected "find more links" that showed next to it.  Then I got the "fisher investments fees" link.  After selecting that, I didn't see any phone number like they were asking for, but found a "Fees - Fisher Investments" result link on the page.  I chose that website to post in the task.  Then I sent feedback to the task master that I wasn't able to find anything given their instructions and explained what setps I did.  If you have the same issue I did, this seemed to work, and I'd suggest including feeback like I did too.

Good luck!

Off-Topic / Crazy things we do for fun
« on: March 30, 2011, 12:48:52 pm »Message ID: 332845
At the moment, I'm getting myself ready to participate in an annual trivia contest I've played since the early 90's.  I get together with friends to play a 54 Hour (yes, 54 hours straight) trivia contest up in northern Wisconsin.  We answer insane questions about things that almost go beyond trivia - it's more like the trivia of trivia.

But we have a great time getting together, having good food, lots of laughs and sleep deprivation - and we keep coming back each year to play this insane thing.

When I talk about this contest to new people I meet - they all thing the same thing: That's Nuts!

So that got me to thinking - what is the thing or things you do in your life that you enjoy, but the people around you think you are nuts/insane for doing it?
