On these search engine tasks, TRY inputting "No data available" in the box when you get a pop-up red error message.

It doesn't work EVERY time, but it has worked quite a few times.......

Offers / "Festive" Human Intelligence Tasks...?
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:35:43 pm »Message ID: 642918
Probably not really about "Offers".............
but then again - 'Tasks' are offers, aren't they?

OK, I'm not sure on this, but I think they have an "alternating Christmas colors" thing going on the 'Task Payment Amount' boxes.

(I thought I was losing it at first because they were a darker green for quite a while, then after I hadn't checked them for a while I saw they were red)

So I'm just guessing about this, but that's what it looks like!

  CUTE!!!!

Off-Topic / "Comodo Dragon" Browser.......Anyone know much about this?
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:58:28 am »Message ID: 576960
I'm curious about the "Comodo Dragon" browser, and wondering if anyone knows much/anything about it, or has used it?

I know it's Chromium-based, and that it's supposed to be more secure than Chrome, but that's about it.

I'm contemplating giving it a try, and was looking for input/feedback from anyone, especially:
*Is it as fast as Chrome?
 *User-interface comparable to Chrome?
*Hard-disk space required - less than Chrome?
 *Resource "hog"?

Off-Topic / Real Live "Monsters"......of the Sea (and other locations!)

This post about the "Scale Worm" was originally posted in the thread
"UNICORNS, DRAGONS & ANGELS!! They ARE real! They DO exist! Pics to Prove it!"
on: July 25, 2012, 01:15:28 am

I re-posted two posts from that thread (this one and the following one by jcribb) to start out this new thread about  "monstrous" looking creatures.....

Looking like aliens from another world, these scale worms (Polychaetes) inhabit the depths of around 3200 ft (1000 m) where it is pitch dark and the pressure is immense.

Their ability to survive in most extreme conditions, including both the freezing sub-zero temperatures of the sea floor and the almost 750 °F (400 °C) super-heated waters near the hydrothermal vents makes them capable of survival in basically any conditions found on Earth, which has truly fascinated the scientific community around the globe.

With size of approximately 1 in (2-3 cm), scale worms can turn their mouth inside-out in order to capture prey more effectively, contributing to their already alien-like appearance.

As the volcanic vents are also believed to exist on Europa, the sixth closest moon of the planet Jupiter, many scientists are hoping to find connection with potential life on other planets, meaning that these alien-looking worms actually might help in discovery of real-life extraterrestrial creatures.

Due to the complete lack of sunlight, the entire surrounding of these thermal vents produces energy from chemistry rather than photosynthesis, meaning that Polychaetes are hosts to symbiotic bacteria that provides them with nutrients.

Certain factors even indicate that the bacteria is what the worms rely on in order to survive.

Much is yet to be discovered about these scale worms. The fascinating ability to survive and the connection with alien species certainly has left many impatiently waiting for results of further research.

Off-Topic / !!INFO!! For Pet Owners and Animal Lovers
« on: July 19, 2012, 01:58:40 am »Message ID: 573583
I'm going to start with a sad true story, one that is short but DOES have a happy ending, and then I have some links for info at least some people may find interesting and also useful.

I cry EVERY time I read this, like I am right now, it's so sad thinking about what Scrap was thinking and feeling.

This was written by a guy who worked with shelter animals; He wrote this "to" the owner of Scrap the dog, and posted it online, to hoping make an impression on other pet owners.

He leads into the "letter" with this:
One day 5 years ago right around Christmas I was at our local kill shelter pulling a dog for our rescue. As I stood there I watched while a man was turning in his dog and saw how upset the dog was when he left. I was fairly new to rescue then. I went home and wrote this dog's story and posted to CL Pets. Because a lot of people there do not think twice about their animals and then there are a few that do. Here it is. (By the way Scrap was adopted!)

OK get the kleenex:

"I saw you with Scrap today.
You were smiling, and for a while Scrap was sitting next to you, with his tail wagging.

You were standing in front of the intake counter at Jacksonville Animal Control.
You were explaining that you couldn't keep him because he chewed through a $5.00 dollar telephone cord.
I heard the lady tell you that they take in at least 100 dogs a day, and that Scrap would most likely be euthanized, because he is a bigger dog.

You were still smiling.

Scrap was still looking up at you, with his tail wagging, wondering if the new adventure with you was going to involve some new dog friends that he could hear frantically barking all over the building.

The lady asked if you wanted his collar and his leash.
You took them off as the lady put on his new, plastic Animal Control ID collar, and an Animal Control leash.

Scrap was still a good boy, he was still wagging his tail.

As you walked out the door, you were still smiling.

When you walked out the door, Scrap stopped smiling.

As he was tied up, Scrap's tail stopped wagging and went between his legs, and he started crying.
Scrap kept trying to get to you long after you were gone.

The lady at Animal Control felt bad for him, and tried to give him a treat.
All Scrap wanted was to be with you, though, so he just kept crying.

The Animal Control Officer came to get him, and Scrap left with him - his tail between his legs, and his head down.

Scrap knew then that you were leaving him at that place, and you weren't coming back.

Scrap has seven days until he dies;
Scrap probably won't live until Christmas."

OK - remember everybody : Scrap WAS adopted!!!

Here is a link to a webpage where you can see how your state's senators and representatives vote/voted on animal rights issues:
http://www.hslf.org/pdfs/2011-Humane-Scorecard-Final.PDF

Here is a link to a webpage where you can see the ROLL CALL vote on the dog-fighting amendment that was just passed (making it a federal crime to attend a dogfight or cockfight, and a felony to bring a child to an animal fight):
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=2&vote=00154

Here is the website where you can go to find much more information on all animal rights issues:
http://www.hslf.org/

And last, if you can handle reading this one - It's a situation that should be stopped. A currently used federal trap that is an EXTREMELY cruel trap, not only to the wild animals they CLAIM they need to use these terrible traps on, but also to people's pets that are getting caught in them.
People need to push for these traps to be taken out of use:

Well here's proof that unicorns DO exist....you can't argue with these photos:

(Oh, I forgot to mention that they're Unicorn FISH?? Oops! ;D )

They are actually called "Whitemargin Unicornfish"

I've never heard of them before, and (obviously) had not seen pictures of them before either.
Very unusual looking, I thought.

Off-Topic / DO MERMAIDS exist? Animal Planet show "says" YES!! NOAA Says.....Uh, what?
« on: July 15, 2012, 12:59:57 am »Message ID: 571666
(I found this news story while I was looking for articles & reading about "The God Particle")

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has taken the unusual step of making a public declaration that half-human, half-fish creatures inhabit only our imagination -- not our oceans.
"No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found," NOAA's National Ocean Service division said in a recent blog posting.

Typically, the division is tasked with addressing coastal threats such as climate change, population growth, port congestion and contaminants. But it waded into more whimsical water recently after the Animal Planet network aired a show titled "Mermaids: The Body Found."

The cable TV show suggested  that mermaids are far more than fanciful sirens. To bolster its case, it cast a spotlight on -- among other things -- an early cave drawing in Egypt believed to hold the most ancient depiction of mermaids.

The cave drawing does indeed show that mermaid legends have existed since the start of recorded history -- and across cultures. As the National Ocean Service points out, the ancient Greek epic poet Homer wrote of mermaids in "The Odyssey," and Far East lore and legend held that mermaids were believed to be the wives of powerful sea-dragons. Even the aboriginal people in Australia had a word for mermaids: They called them yawkyawks.

Nonetheless, there is no scientific evidence that mermaids exist today -- or have ever existed.

The National Ocean Service asks, but alas, does not answer the question you're no doubt wrestling with at this very moment: If there's no evidence to suggest that mermaids are real, why, then, do they occupy the collective unconscious of nearly all seafaring peoples?

The division adds: "That’s a question best left to historians, philosophers, and anthropologists."

So. The American government made a public statement denying the existence of Mermaids - due to a documentary that had some people believing in mythical creatures that have never been seen, nor has any physical evidence been discovered that proves otherwise.

Offers / An FYI: Possible Reason for (some) Surveys Not Crediting
« on: March 28, 2012, 02:21:43 pm »Message ID: 511653
I just noticed this the other day, in the FusionCash T.O.S. - (I'm not sure why I missed this before), but just in case anyone else isn't aware of this, here it is copied/pasted from T.O.S. page:

A. Offer Completion.

viii.  Occasionally, offer links can redirect to other offers. If an offer link is redirecting to another offer, the user may not complete it. Any attempt to complete a redirected offer will not result in credit.

So I'm assuming that what this means in regard to surveys is this:

When it says "Sorry, you didn't qualify for this survey. However, we have other surveys available. Would you like to try and qualify for another one?" (or something similar), IF you say yes to this, and then you go on and complete a survey, you won't get credit for doing that survey.

I have had this happen to me: I said yes to trying again on a survey, and then saw no credit for the survey.

Probably many of you already knew this (by reading the TOS more carefully than I did - :-[ ), but I'm sure some of you don't, so......

 :) HTH!

If I'm wrong on this, Admin or ??, please let me/other FC members know!

Support / About FC "Shopping Mall"....
« on: March 14, 2012, 05:26:37 pm »Message ID: 505348
I don't think I've seen this asked anywhere here before, so here goes:

Do you HAVE to install the toolbar to shop and get rewards @ FC? Or can you use the shopping mall without installing the toolbar, and get the $$ "benefits"?

I just assumed you had to install it, because everyone who talked about it referred to using the toolbar with it.

But I'm wondering if that was maybe an incorrect assumption??

Has anyone had this on their higher paying survey offers, and done it? I did it, was qualified and asked to join the panel. So I did join;  I registered, then did the required activities to activate my account, .....and

WOW!! Big Surprise!
I didn't get credit for doing it.

 :angry7:
These high paying surveys are really starting to tick me off.
