This Sunday April 22nd is Earth Day. I am all about teaching our children eco responsibility, reduce, reuse & recycle. We recycle as much as possible. We try to reuse items when we can. We try to buy local when we can. I also have changed our diet to more raw and organic meals with less processed foods. I make my own cleaners except detergent...that is a hurdle I have not jumped yet. I do have the items to just not the time yet. Today begins our Earth Day weekend. Tonight is my kids school carnival. We will be pumping money back into our community and having fun. We are going to our local icecream shop after. Tomorrow we will go strawberry picking at a local farm. To show the kids how fresh strawberries taste, let them dig into the dirt and have responsibility over their own food choice and see how hard the farmers work toward their product to sell. Sunday the big day. We will be making felt hand puppets using old scrap fabric, clothing and other items from my craft box and things we find around the house. We will be going through items in the household and finding things to make a windchime for our back patio. We will also plant some basil and cilantro to go with our patio garden we started last week. We live in a small apartment and have a container garden of tomatoes, bell peppers, hot banana peppers, strawberries, jalepeno's & romaine lettuce. We also have a cabbage for a project for my son's school. The kids picked out an orange gerber daisy and I pick a red lily. To go along with the strawberry picking we will be making a recipe from some of the strawberries we pick. Probably a strawberry cream cheese muffin for their breakfast for the week. What idea's do you have to keep this Earth beautiful for our kids? What do you do to teach them how prescious our home is we all share?
