Every time Father's Day rolls around, I am like thousands of people who did not know their fathers.  He left his family when we were very young.  After all these years, you'd think I would be used to the feeling, but the hurt never completely goes away.  I've made up for it, though, by having the most wonderful husband on earth.  My father would not have held a candle to him.

Our huge oak tree, which is over 200 years old (one of the oldest in the county), lost 3 huge chunks of limbs last year.  I was in tears because we loved that tree.  The funny thing is if you are standing on one side, you can't even tell they are gone.  I don't even know the circumference of the trunk; I'm not good at estimating that type of thing, but it is really large.  We got an estimate for taking the whole thing down - over $5000.  Just cleaning up the limbs that fell cost $1500.  Several years ago, we had what is called a micro wind come through and took off the top.  My husband says water was let into the middle of the tree because of the damage and there is rot there.  Now we're not sure what to do about the rest.  It will cost more than $3000 to take the rest of the tree down.

Thank you, colbtrist.  I am wondering if my husband could be a carrier.  He has been visiting hospitals and nursing homes for the past several months to see some friends who have had long-term illnesses.  I guess I'll find out exactly what's going on when the testing is done.

I took shorthand many, many years ago, and I was told it ruins your spelling.  I don't think it had any effect on mine.  Barring some physical or mental problem, you can choose to be literate.  My belief is that you're never too old to learn.  And if people would just take the time to proofread what they write, it would help considerably.  I think that's just a courtesy to the reader.  Mistakes will always happen, but I don't like for people who read what I write to think I'm stupid.  (Remember, the red lines under words have a purpose.)

I think a lot of people, especially the younger generation, have gotten lazy and don't want to write words out.  Plus, they don't know how to spell.  I'm a writer, and I deal with words.  Words are my friends.      P.S.  The last two times my husband and I ate out, I noticed pre-teens and teens sitting at tables with their families and never put their phones or iPads down the whole time.

Thanks for your post, sfreeman8.  That helps me a lot.  I'm not quite as concerned because I haven't been hospitalized or taken antibiotics for some time now except I'm now taking antibiotics for cellulitis and had cellulitis a few months ago, as well.  My regular doctor has referred me to a hematologist because, she says, she is concerned that my white blood cell count has been elevated.  I don't use any websites but WebMD and Mayo Clinic and a couple others for my research.

I just finished The Girl on the Train.  It is the best book I've read in a long time, and I read a lot of books.  It is a murder mystery with a twist that keeps you guessing.  It takes place in London.

It seems it's a trade-off.  You find a house for a decent price or one that is close to all the conveniences.  We live in the country in Virginia (and love it), but we have to drive a good distance to shopping, doctors, etc.  I do a lot of shopping online.

Several years ago, my doctor gave me a prescription for Cymbalta.  Since it had not been on the market long, I found the prescription was over $200 and my insurance did not cover any of it.  Now, a few years later and dozens more of the same class of drug on the market, I am able to get it for just over $8.00.  I am now in the process of tapering off another drug for depression, arthritis, and fibromyalgia before starting Cymbalta.  I am wondering if anyone here has taken Cymbalta and if it helped you.  I'm afraid I'm going to be disappointed.  I'm desperate to find something for my pain.  It has been overwhelming for the past several months.  Does anyone have any experience with it?
