01/04/08—We have increasingly received reports of fraudulent schemes misrepresenting FBI agents, officials, and/or FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III. The fraudulent e-mails give the appearance of legitimacy due to the usage of pictures of the FBI Director, seal, letterhead, and/or banners. The e-mails may also claim to come from our domestic or overseas offices.

The types of schemes utilizing the names of FBI agents, officials, or the Director’s name are typically lottery endorsements and inheritance notifications. However, other fraudulent schemes include threat and extortion e-mails, website monitoring containing malicious computer program attachments (malware), and online auction scams.

The social engineering technique of utilizing the FBI’s name is to intimidate and convince the recipient the e-mail is legitimate.

The FBI does not send out emails soliciting information from citizens.

Please be cautious of any unsolicited e-mail referencing the FBI, FBI Director Mueller, or any other FBI official endorsing any type of Internet activity.

If you have experienced this situation please notify the IC3 by filing a complaint at

this wasnt in the news but in an email and thought i would share

I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77.
It was about 1:00
p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away.

She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the
unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the *77 Cell Phone
face="Gill Sans MT" size="6"> Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe & quiet place.  You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledg e them (i.e. put on
your hazard lights) or call *77 like Lauren did.
Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information.
So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.
Send this to every woman (and person) you know; it may save a life.
This applies to ALL 50 states.

i do read the rules, i knew they were going to expire soon. i tried to cash out a long time ago and it turned into a headache so i gave up, i had 5 different people telling me 5 different things. but anywho I DONT CARE i think everyone else is more concerned about this than i am. i am still here because i like the forum and that's it. the forum here is great and i eagerly await the posts of a few witty people. if it was about getting the check i would have left a long time ago. i was actually surprised, i thought they were going to expire a month ago. oh and gonna get this outta the way before someone says something, i only kept responding to explain to some of the people that support tickets are useless if your offers expire and that the banner shows what you have made (total) not what is in your account
