This is so sad! :(

Four mountain gorillas, including a baby, have been killed in Uganda by a suspected lightning strike, wildlife officials say.
The gorillas were killed Monday in Mgahinga National Park, according to the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration, a wildlife conservation partnership serving the region.

“Based on the gross lesions from the post-mortem, field assessment observation and history, the tentative cause of death for all four individuals is likely to be electrocution by lightning,” the officials said.  Confirmation of the cause of death is expected in two to three weeks

An endangered species, mountain gorillas are the world’s smallest population of gorillas, according to the World Wildlife Fund. The gorillas inhabit the Virunga Mountain Range, which spans Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources says that there are about 600 mature mountain gorillas remaining, but the population is increasing.

Friday February 7, 2020 Wear Red for National Heart Day

 :glasses-nerdy:
Please share this and post one of your own to this thread, like to learn new things for 2020 as a New Years Resolution! This could save someone's life and it is said over 100 people a year die from choking on the caps of pens.

There's A Surprising Reason Why Pen Caps Have Holes In Them
The holes at the top of Bic biro pens are there so that, if you swallow one accidentally, you can still breathe and won’t choke to death.
It's debatable whether that last one there is common knowledge or not. A quick Google search of the fact, rewritten as a question, reveals articles addressing this point going back several years, with the latest (re)appearing just this week over on ScienceAlert. We suppose it’s one of those things that comes up from time to time, like what would happen if you nuked Yellowstone (not much, as it turns out).
If you jump over to Bic’s website, under their FAQs, it quite clearly states: “The reason that some BIC® pens have a hole in their cap is to prevent the cap from completely obstructing the airway if accidentally inhaled. This is requested by the international safety standards ISO11540, except for in cases where the cap is considered too large to be a choking hazard.”

I found this article and want to share the contents so finding a site to sign up with for our newbies is easier!!

Top Survey Sites of 2020

Discover which survey sites made the cut to be selected as SurveyPolice’s Top Survey Picks of 2020.

Published on January 7, 2020.

https://www.surveypolice.com/articles/top-survey-sites-2020

The biggest change from 2019’s Top Survey Picks was the removal of OneOpinion. We had OneOpinion as our #1 choice last year, but this year, they simply didn’t make the cut. In 2019, OneOpinion’s parent company, Critical Mix, was purchased by Dynata (who runs numerous survey panels). This acquisition seemed to have affected many existing members of the OneOpinion panel negatively; it now appears that qualifying for surveys is more difficult than ever, survey frequency has dropped, and some users have started to report difficulty in collecting their earnings.

As mentioned above, the second change between this year and last year was downgrading PointClub from our #3 choice last year to an honorable mention this year. The reasons for this are explained above.

The other biggest differences in our selections are the addition of YouGov and EPoll Surveys. Both of these panels have made our yearly top pick lists in the past; YouGov was our #5 pick for 2018, and our #4 pick for 2016, while E-Poll was our #3 pick back in 2015.

And yet another one popped up during my normal day on the WWW World Wide Web!! Click to read this article here:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/25/arts/mattel-gender-neutral-dolls.html

Mattel, the company that conquered the doll world by dividing it into idealized Barbies and Kens, is introducing a new line of gender-neutral dolls for boys, girls and children in between.
The new line, introduced on Wednesday and called Creatable World, is intended to reflect our culture “as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity,” said Kim Culmone, the Mattel executive who led the team that designed the new dolls.
Available in different skin tones, each doll comes with two wigs of different lengths — hair types include curly, straight and braided — and several wardrobe options that allow children to style the doll with “short or long hair, or in a skirt, pants or both,” Culmone said. Each kit, as they’re called, costs about $30.

Mattel worked with physicians and experts knowledgeable about gender identity as well as 250 families across the country, including children of all gender identities.

As for the parents, researchers found a growing concern around gendered toys for their children — though a generational divide on the subject was certainly evident, Chidoni said. “While this was something that was really innate to the kids, it was something that, in some cases, was a little bit harder for their parents to understand,” she said.

Barbie Inspiring Women Series Katherine Johnson Doll

"Katherine Johnson Barbie"   doll wears a pink dress with white collar, pleated skirt, and belt. Shiny black high-heels, glasses, ID badge, pearl earrings and necklace complete the vintage ensemble. Includes doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity.

NASA Mathematician and Physicist, USA
Black Label
Designer: Kelley Lindberg
Release Date: February 19, 2018
Barbie recognizes all female role models. The Inspiring Women Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules, and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before. While growing up in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, Katherine Johnson displayed an intense curiosity and an extraordinary brilliance with words and numbers alike. As a child prodigy, she entered high school at 10 years old and graduated summa *bleep* laude from college when she was just eighteen with two Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and French. In the mid-1950s, she joined a pool of African-American women hired by NASA to work as human computers. Katherine calculated the trajectory of NASA’s first American-manned flight into space. Her flawless calculations helped ensured that the Apollo astronauts landed and returned safely from their voyage to the moon. Her figures were so consistently accurate, that when NASA switched to computers, they had Katherine double-check the accuracy of the results. The Barbie Inspiring Women Katherine Johnson doll celebrates the achievements of a pioneer who broke through barriers of race and gender. Like the trajectories she calculated, Katherine’s contributions inspire young people to excel in mathematics and science, and to reach for the stars.

The Nation Goes Red in February

National Wear Red Day® – Friday, February 7, 2020

On the first Friday of every February, which is designated as American Heart Month, the nation comes together, igniting a wave of red from coast to coast. From landmarks to news anchors and neighborhoods to online communities; this annual groundswell unites millions of people for a common goal: the eradication of heart disease and stroke.

American Heart Month, a federally designated event, is an ideal time to remind Americans to focus on their hearts and encourage them to get their families, friends and communities involved.

-The first American Heart Month, which took place in February 1964, was proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson via Proclamation 3566 on December 30, 1963.

It's now been a few days. Much of the site isn't working for me. Hope the FC team is aware of the situation and working on fixing it.
I am sure they are! I sent in a support ticket just in case.
 :silly:
I also found an article dated back in 2008 when FC was down for a week  :(   due to the server being hacked, it had Kohlers' comments all over it.

1) Oreo Barbie?
2) pregnant?
3)Hitler
