Off-Topic / Re: what do you think about teenages having kids?
« on: August 27, 2010, 07:53:56 pm »Message ID: 227788
I agree.  I wish more teens would be teens first and wait until they are more emotionally mature to take on a 24/7 job.  A baby is for the rest of your life, not just a cute toy to show to your friends.  I have seen so many girls in recent years, even in my own extended family, who wanted a baby just so they could have someone to love and someone to love them.

People who display this type of behavior are really just extremely insecure.

I am an older female, and when I noticed several years ago that my hair was thinning in the back and then I developed bald spots in the front, I was devastated.  I'm sure males feel the same way, but for a woman it is particularly hard, I think.  I tried a lot of things, including Rogaine and that type of product, and went to a dermatologist for steroid shots.  They gave me nothing but a headache.  At the point when it became more noticeable, I began wearing wigs. Although I have learned to style my wigs to look more natural and have been complimented on my "hair," I would like to find something that would help me regrow my hair, short of expensive medical procedures.  I did some research and did find that some high blood pressure medications, which I have to take, can cause hair loss.  Has anyone found anything that might help.  I guess this is an impossible dream.  If something like that were invented that really worked, I'm sure the inventor would make a huge fortune!!

Off-Topic / Re: How Often do you Spring Clean?

Every few years.   ;)  I used to be a fanatic about cleaning, but at my age, I have decided that it just has to be done again and I don't want to spend the rest of my life cleaning.  I just keep my house neat, and I clean when needed.  I began to downsize years ago, so it's not so difficult now.

I like Facebook because I can keep up with family and friends.  However, I think people put entirely too much personal information on Facebook.

I have requested my first cashout and am looking forward to receiving it.  FusionCash is the best survey site I've come across in the last 3 months or so.  I'm really enjoying it.  I especially like the forum aspect of it.

Debate & Discuss / Re: Why do Christians hate atheists?

This Christian does not hate Atheists either.  Neither do most people I know, Christians and non-Christians alike.  True Christianity is love and God is Love.

To the original poster - have you studied Calvinism?  Its origins and its originators?  And what makes you think the Calvinists are correct?  I have noticed in my 68 years that most people who advance theories as yours have not studied and do not know what they are talking about.  The theories are an excuse to convince themselves there is no God.  And most people who do this are trying to combat the teachings of hard-line preachers and evangelists who don't know what they are talking about either, but who are mostly in the field of religion for the money.  Those people have done more to hurt the people who they say they are trying to help.  If you get down to studying the Bible, you will find it is really simple and you don't have to believe outrageous theories.

Debate & Discuss / Re: Babies...

I do not judge girls and women who have abortions - the judgment will be done by a higher power than me.  I myself do not believe in abortion.  I waited 13 long and heartbreaking years trying to conceive and going through many embarrassing procedures until I had my precious daughter 35 years ago.  Then her situation was almost the smae as mine, even to the number of years it took us be become pregnant.  She had our grandson 2 1/2 years ago, and I am so proud of the way they are raising him.  Both his mother and father are very much involved in every part of his upbringing, even though they both work.  That is why I favor adoption to abortion.  There are so many women wo cry every day for the feel of a baby in their arms.

There are so many scenarios that lead up to the time when a woman will make that choice.  I believe a great majority of these women who seek pregnancies are actually underage girls, who do not have the experience to make good decisions in the first place - that place being having sex underage.  And I also believe the cause of a lot of this sad state lies at the doorstep of parents who have neglected their children - male and female - leaving them to make uninformed and emotional choices.

Another thing I've noticed in recent years is the number of young girls who want to have a baby just to have someone to love and to love them.  It has happened more than once in my own extended family.  Does that tell you something?

Big white rats may be okay for some people, but my cat, Izzy (a large orange Maine Koon) would have him for a snack.  I prefer dogs and cats as pets.

I am a 55+ and I agree - there are a lot of really nice communities for seniors.  I also agree that Social Security will likely run out in the not-so-distant future.  Fortunately, we have a home that was built by my father-in-law and that we inherited when he passed away.  It is a plain, nice home in the country on 65 acres.  If we did not have this, I don't know what we would have done.  It will go to our daughter, son-in-law and grandson, and I hope it will help them, too, when there is no more Social Security to fall back on.

God doesn't "hate fags."  He hates the sin, but loves the sinner.

Debate & Discuss / Re: Ever rode a train?
« on: August 19, 2010, 06:27:21 pm »Message ID: 223220
I rode a train yesterday from Richmond, VA to Raleigh, NC.  I enjoy it, most of the time.  Yesterday, the ride seemed to have more than the usual number of crying babies, and, of course, a lot of college students were traveling, so it was pretty crowded.  My main reason for riding the train is I like the fact I don't have to drive that long drive myself.  And I can read or sleep or just look out the window.  I run across a lot of nice people, and, being a people watcher, it's usually pretty interesting.

Dirty Dancing was my favorite, even though I'm an "old" lady.  Actually, the songs and the era depicted WAS from my generation!! Oh, how I miss Patrick Swayze!
