Off-Topic / Coupons now with daily offers
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:31:29 am »Message ID: 476079
That was a surprise today.  It used to be that I would print off lots and lots of the coupons, and I would use them.  Apparently they are geared for other people now, as I only see a few that I want.

Off-Topic / House value goes down, property taxes stay the same
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:28:38 am »Message ID: 476078
Is anybody else experiencing this?  If the value of your house goes down $100,000, shouldn't your taxes also go down?  This is a rip-off!!!  The value of my house has stayed about the same until this year and then it had a big drop.

I have heard of some people who are just walking away from their homes.  Their mortgages are almost twice what their houses are worth.  They don't go through foreclosure.  They just call their lender and say they are walking away from the house.  I guess the lenders are pretty good about it - saves them from going through foreclosure.

Off-Topic / Recipe of the day
« on: January 15, 2012, 10:19:43 am »Message ID: 475701
Have you ever copied the recipe ofthe day and then made it?  I usually find themtoo long, with way too many ingredients and they don't even sound like they would be good.  Today is the first one that interested me.  It is a shrimp dish and is pretty simple.

Off-Topic / Free books for Kindle Fire
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:46:43 am »Message ID: 473936
I preordered my Kindle Fire, so got it as soon as it came out.  So far I have loaded about 150 books on it.  All but two of them were free.  They were ordered when I thought they were free.  You have to be carefull as some of them change from free to charging during the day.  So far I love the kindle and have plans to take it on my next vacations.  No more packing half a dozen books.  It even lights up.  It is easier to read from the kindle than a regular book when you are in bed.  I also paid for it with gift cards I had earned.

Off-Topic / Forum topic ideas
« on: January 10, 2012, 09:29:03 am »Message ID: 473410
Have you ever thought of an idea for a post when you are in bed.  Of course, the next morning you have forgotten all about it.  I have thought of one during the day and by the time I got to my computer, the idea was gone.

Off-Topic / Have you ever had names for your cars?
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:11:11 am »Message ID: 472326
Some people have cute or fancy names for their cars.  We always called our vehicles by their brand names, except for one convertible, and that was the convertible.  The rest of them have been called the Ford, chevie, etc.

Off-Topic / Did you go to camp when you were a kid?
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:24:58 am »Message ID: 471834
I first started out at a campfire camp in my area.  That was for two years.  Then we discovered there was a big camp about 15 miles from our summer cabin.  I went for two or three weeks every summer.  I loved the swimming, boating, and especially the horseback riding.  We would even go on campouts with the horses.

Our cabin was on a lake that had a boy's camp.  The lake was a good sized one and the boys camp was part way around the lake.  As we got older, the boys started coming to our dock in their canoes or stopping by on their horses.  Our dock was the farthest they were allowed to go.  Ironically, later in life, I met someone who used to go to that camp.  He was older than me, so we would not have connected in the summer.

Off-Topic / Are you brand loyal at the grocery store?
« on: January 05, 2012, 11:01:24 am »Message ID: 470839
I use coupons whenever I can find them.  Most of the coupons are for national brands.  Sometimes it is cheaper to buy the big brand, with the coupon, than the store brand.  I am not very brand loyal with my groceries.  I will buy whichever is the best buy.  I have one exception and it is for a brand of early baby peas.

Off-Topic / 1-ply or 2-ply toilet paper?
« on: January 05, 2012, 10:59:14 am »Message ID: 470836
I have my favorite brand that I almost always buy.  It is a soft, 2-ply brand.  I must have had a very good coupon, as I ended up with a big package of 12 rolls of very thin, 1-ply paper.  It is like tissue paper.  Note to myself to never buy that brand again.

Off-Topic / When do you take down your Christmas decorations?
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:12:21 am »Message ID: 469146
Since most people are not working today, I imagine a lot of you are taking them down today.  I don't have many out, and tend to leave them out for another week or so.

I have seen this one many times and enjoy it each time I see it.  I have even copied the link and sent it out.  You have to wonder how long it took to get this produced with some many girls.

Are you enjoying this one?

Kathryn

There are two common ways to spell the name, but I guess I wanted to be different as I spelled it the uncommon way.

Off-Topic / What is your middle name?
« on: December 12, 2011, 09:34:30 am »Message ID: 460162
Mine is Margaret.  It was my mother's name.  It is my oldest daughter's middle name.  Unfortunately she could not carry on the tradition as her kids are boys.  I don't think they would appreciate Margaret for a middle name.

Off-Topic / Are you sure you want to navigate
« on: December 11, 2011, 07:39:55 am »Message ID: 459596
from this page?  Sometimes it not only does this once, but does it twice or three times.  Of course, I want to navigate from the page, that is why I clicked to get rid of it.  Does anybody else find this mildly irritating?  It is not something that is going to ruin my day, by any means, just one little irritation.

Do you read it every day?  Do you pay any attention to it?  Mine seems pretty far off from my life.
