Off-Topic / Re: July 4th

At first I had nothing planned at all. I was just going to rest since my mother can't eat barbecued foods and we had no plans to cook anything. But earlier today I spoke to one of the church members and we decided to go to her house tomorrow and talk and she is going to cook a fish dinner. After I get back I might watch some fireworks that our neighbors do in the parking lot.

I am also very sorry for the loss of your husband. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and I hope you find comfort in something you love. I don't think the red cape myrtle blooming yesterday was a coincidence at all. I think it was something to comfort you in your time sympathy. I hope you will find and solace.

Off-Topic / Re: Sports Participant or Spectator?
« on: July 03, 2019, 04:56:28 pm »Message ID: 1282749
I am a big time spectator watching the NBA playoffs and Finals, Tiger Woods (I love to watch him at the Majors) and Serena Williams at the Majors. I also watch the NCAA march madness tournament. However if I had my choice I'd be not just a participant, but a league star. I'd love to have the talent to play pro basketball and it would be really nice to be paid millions of dollars to do what you love. Unfortunately I'm not athletic so I have to just watch only instead.

Off-Topic / Re: How often do you eat Instant Ramen ?
« on: July 03, 2019, 04:54:09 pm »Message ID: 1282748
It's been years since we ate instant ramen. We had less money back then and were forced too eat it for a few months, but thankfully not that frequently. I never liked the taste of instant Ramen and feel it was too salty for me. I hope we don't have to ever go that route again and especially since my mother has high blood pressure. From what I know instant ramen is high in sodium and not a food to eat regularly when you have hypertension.

This was a fun week of free agency. Really crazy and I'm very surprised about Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant both going to the Brooklyn Nets. I thought they both would go to New York since it was constantly in the news. I know NY feels really bad now having lost them both and not getting Zion with the No. 1 pick. Hopefully they will improve sooner than later. I am surprised that D'angelo Russell got traded to the Warriors. He's projected to be traded again because he doesn't fit their team so it will be interesting to see where goes and how he does since he's a very good up and coming player. I wonder if Brooklyn can do more deals and get to the Finals this year.

Off-Topic / Re: Are you single or married

I have never been married. When I was younger I was more interested in marriage and children. I wanted a boy and a girl and wonder what they would have been like now if I would have had them. However I have found peace and contentment in my single life and don't worry about being married much anymore. I also have a disability which made me reconsider having a marriage for the impact on my spouse and children. But if the person was the right person and the circumstances right I would definitely get married and have a child.

Wow that's extremely close. I hope your good luck will come with the next attempt or at least in time. If it helps you might want to try playing free online lotteries like winloot.com or rewardit.com where you can win up to 10000 a month (they say it's a 2.3 million lump sump if you win as well) or 2,000 a week for life. Most of the lotteries there are smaller like as low as $100 up to 50,000 or even 1,000,000 but it's worth a try. Maybe you might win something there one day. They have instant cash prizes too.

Off-Topic / Re: Getting hotter!

Where we live it's finally feeling like summer after the cooler more comfortable days we were spoiled with. It's been at least 85 degrees everyday with a heat index in the low 90's or so everyday where I live. What makes it worse is our air conditioning is out and we have to sweat it out here in the sweltering temps. I like it even less when we gave to go out in the car which also has the same problem and it's hot in there too. I can't wait for fall now when it will be cooler.

Off-Topic / Re: Contaminated Beach Water

Thanks for the warning Mizzkizz7. That flesh eating bacteria sounds horrific and I hope the woman makes a full recovery. I haven't been to a beach before, but would like to go and this event makes me think twice about going into the waters. It's really disturbing to know this would happen on top of the oil spills and trash being dumped into the waters. Hopefully no one else will be affected by this contamination.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss ajamimajida. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I really hope things will be brighter for you and your family in the days to come and can only imagine what you are going thru. I've heard that the greatest loss one can feel is the loss of a child because they created that child and usually reared them from birth so my heart goes out to you.

I've heard that some foods are good past the best by date and that the best by date is an approximation so that foods might still be fresh depending on the circumstances so I'll eat them on occasion if they appear to still be fresh. I've had some cake mix past the sell by date and it came out fine too. Some foods last a bit longer because they are dry (like cake mix, rice, pasta, etc), but I don't think liquids or wet foods are as trustworthy with this. Milk occasionally will last longer so I will drink it, but if in doubt throw it out.

Off-Topic / Re: Fireworks for the 4th of July
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:10:41 pm »Message ID: 1282386
Neighbors in a our apartment complex buy fireworks that are smaller and easier to handle and blow them up in our parking lot. In our neighborhood with the right vantage point I can also see fireworks to the sides of us that are further away. Usually people start a week or two before the 4th and it doesn't end until at least a week after. Our cities local fireworks are televised at the riverfront live and are the real thing with music choreographed to the spectacular display. I've never been to a real event though.

Happy Birthday to all the July babies and a special shout out to the 4th of July Babies like Malia Obama. Also Happy Canada day to our northern neighbor. I don't enjoy the hotter weather July brings, but feel like it's special for me because my mother was born on the 29th. She will be 58 later this month and I'm not sure yet what I will buy her for her special day. Not to hijack the thread, but suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Off-Topic / Re: If you have really dry skin...

We used to use Vaseline years ago and off brand petroleum jellies from the dollar store or cvs that cost less than $5. Now my mother swears by the moisturizing affects of Aquaphor. It's far more expensive at $12.99 a jar, but has some healing properties that the reviews on amazon have stated are very effective. I know it 's not a traditional lotion but it might be worth the cost if you need something to heal and not just purely moisturize your dry skin.

Off-Topic / Re: no more taxes
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:01:05 pm »Message ID: 1282383
I don't like the idea of any taxes being raised and think taxes are plenty high enough. I feel like Washington would have more money if they denied more to the pork wasteful spending projects of many politicians. In my city millions were spent a rarely used trolley car and a prison that wasn't fully built and abandoned. Who knows how much could be saved if policies like those never saw the light of day rather than harmful tax cuts that only bleed the American tax payer.
