Off-Topic / High Interest Online Banks - Anyone use one?
« on: April 27, 2018, 05:16:10 pm »Message ID: 1211587
Every once in a while I get annoyed at my bank only giving me 0.15% interest on my saved money with them, so I look up who has the highest percent and debate opening an account (https://www.magnifymoney.com/blog/earning-interest/best-online-savings-accounts275921001/).

Some of these are consistently mentioned across multiple sites (Barclay, Synchrony, and Marcus), while others are more recognizable for other reason (Discover, American Express, Ally, and CIT).

Has anyone here used or is currently using one of these banks?  Or would you use one of these banks?

I'm mostly a set it and forget it person.  The money I earn on here basically goes directly into my current savings account and that's about it, so the thought of just sending it to another place and earning more on it is appealing to me.  I figure just open it with the minimum amount required, and then put all my online earnings into it, that way I can still have my original bank account but use this second one to help grow my online earnings.  However, figuring out the best place to go has been the issue so I figure maybe you all have a good suggestion.

Support / VideoLab Resetting Timer
« on: March 05, 2018, 02:41:24 am »Message ID: 1201749
So, I opened their page and was watching the videos.  Timer going down no problem and I was close to 4 minutes left.  Suddenly, they say they've run out of videos and will check again in 5 minutes.  Ok, I can accept that.

However, when they find videos for me, I'm back at the 18 minute timer again, even though I was down to 4 or so minutes before hand.  And this has happened 2 or 3 times now.

Am I just getting really unlucky that they run out of videos with minutes left on my timer?

Off-Topic / New shows that get cancelled
« on: November 12, 2014, 10:42:16 pm »Message ID: 934784
I really don't get why TV stations give a new series like 4 episodes before cancelling them.  Perhaps they get more, but it just seems like so many really good series are cut for whatever reason right when they are starting to get good.  I don't get it.  I'm sure some of the great long running series that we have now wouldn't've survived if it was judged based on just the first few episodes.

It really makes me wonder why you'd cancel something so soon.  I hadn't heard of some of the shows that got cancelled this year and after watching some on recommendations from friends, I'm really annoyed to find out they are.

Off-Topic / Pumpkin Carvings
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:12:44 pm »Message ID: 930463
I love caring my pumpkin.  One of these days I'm going to go high tech though and get a drill or something to make my job easier, cause I hate when you get most of the design done but one slightly too hard push and you just decapitated the mummy you were working on.

Do you carve a pumpkin, and if so, what's your pattern for this year?  Do you use anything to assist your carving?

Off-Topic / Real Fruit Juice Popsicles
« on: August 31, 2014, 01:26:26 am »Message ID: 913536
Ok, I love these Outshine popsicles that are made with real fruit juice, but I hate the pieces of fruit in them.  If I want a Popsicle, I don't want random pieces of fruit I have to chew.  I don't quite get how we have a company using real fruit and yet I can't get one box of just fruit juice popsicles.

Support / Suspicious Activity Warning in captcha
« on: July 27, 2014, 10:07:37 am »Message ID: 902855
At first this only happened in RadioLoyalty once the captcha loaded and when I read a few things about making sure the page loaded properly and such, it hasn't appeared since.  However, I just did my PTC and got the same thing when the captcha appeared.

Anyone know what this means?  I'm worried since I've seen it three times or so but there aren't many details about what it means.

Off-Topic / Foods to avoid at work
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:17:20 am »Message ID: 851548
I just recently got a job and we are allowed to bring in lunch so I'm planning on doing that as much as possible to save on the cost of food.  However, since this is my first office job, I don't really know what to avoid bringing in.  Like, I made fajitas with garlic and onions for dinner last night and I have a feeling people might not appreciate those being eaten.  So, do you all have any suggestions of foods that should be avoided in the office place?

Same question for snacks.  I brought in a bag of chips and worried that maybe they were too loud to bring into the office.

Off-Topic / Money sure can cause problems
« on: January 23, 2014, 02:32:37 am »Message ID: 842524
I don't quite get this.  I have two friends that are sisters that are sorta good on this subject, but if you really talk to them about it, one is really upset at the whole ordeal.

My friend Amanda (not her real name) went to college and got a Bachelors and wants to go for post graduate degree because she basically needs it to get a job.

My other friend Andrea (not her real name) went to college and got a Bachelors and is now searching for a job.  That's really all she needs for a job and has become buying textbooks for further her studies while searching.

Their parents agreed to pay for their education, which they both figured was just undergrad.  Once Amanda started to get her masters degree, her parents decided they would help her pay for it as well but they only did this after she had paid for a full year herself.  So, they have been giving her checks to pay her back.  Well, they decided that while Andrea isn't getting a degree, she's further her education as well by studying on her own and have started paying her the same amount as well to make up for what she's done.  I've talked to her and she's been buying some really expense software that she needs to know to get a job.

Apparently the fact that Andrea is getting money upsets Amanda.  Andrea was telling me that on more than one occasion Amanda has brought up how it annoys her that her sister gets money too and tries to get Andrea to agree that it's unfair.

I just don't understand it.  I can see Amanda's point that she is getting money to pay for her college.  But, I also see Andrea's point that she's spent thousands on books and software as well to further her education and while it isn't college, it still is education.  The thing I don't quite get is how Amanda is upset by this.  So, she should get money but not her sister, though they are both trying to learn more about the career they want to have?  And, from what Andrea says, it's like Amanda wants her to tell her parents to stop paying her.  It's like, these numbers are probably no accurate, but Amanda gets to have 30,000 spent on her education, but Andrea only gets to have 20,000 spent on hers and she has to pay the 10,000 for the education afterwards.

It just really amazes me that this is what people argue or worry about.  I mean really, you're upset that you get the same amount of money as your sister.  REALLY?

What do you all think?  I've sorta been in the middle of this for a while with both telling me that they are frustrated about this.  Andrea wants Amanda to stop bugging her about it and just seems to be angry about it but putting on a happy front until something else upsets her and then she explodes.  I don't really know what to say to either cause, 1) it isn't my place and 2) I can see both sides and don't quite get all the fuss.  For Andrea, she's never going to convince Amanda to back off unless she stops taking the money, but then that might upset her parents, and Amanda either needs to let it go or confront her parents and have them tell her what they think.

Off-Topic / Losing weight and unhelpful people, Any Good Recipes?
« on: January 14, 2014, 10:34:42 pm »Message ID: 840100
I've been wanting to lose weight for a while and keep trying and getting discouraged by people.  I keep telling people that I just need to add more veggies into my diet and I think I will start losing weight.  My veggie portions are too low right now, so I want to raise them.  The minute I suggest this to people, their suggestion is to eat rice and beans.  I've heard that makes protein, so that's good if true, but how is this more veggies?  I was hoping for a suggestion like, "make a big pot of chili and fill it with <list of veggies> and beans to cut down the meat ratio and you'll have food for a week" but I seem to get just really bad suggestions or suggestions I'm already doing (like don't snack/cheat, exercise more, eat less, duh).

I don't get people who, it seems, try to sabotage your work.  I don't know if they mean it or not, but it's just so unhelpful.

So, do you all have any good recipe ideas that are veggie heavy?

My main veggies are lettuce, non-cooked spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes, onions, green beans, navy and pinto beans, garlic, mushrooms, carrots, water chestnuts, pea pods, and small amounts of jalapenos.  Any recipes where these feature would be appreciated.

Below are some things I make, any additional veggies for those would be helpful.
Code: [Select]
Chicken fajitas with onions, every color pepper, shredded lettuce, tomatos, guacamole, sour cream, and a little cheddar cheese.  I've heard people add garlic, but haven't figured out a way yet.

Chicken Enchiladas with onions, green peppers, jalapenos.  Wrapped in flour tortillas and topped with cheddar cheese.

Bean Burrito with pinto beans, jalapeno cheddar cheese, lots of salsa, lettuce, sour cream.  Wrapped in flour tortilla.

Chicken stir-fry with pea pods, pineapple, carrots, water chestnuts.  Brown rice as base.

Off-Topic / Drinking as a party activity
« on: December 23, 2013, 01:52:37 pm »Message ID: 831248
I mean drinking alcohol to be specific.  I don't drink it cause I've never liked the taste, but I don't care if others drink.  However, I recently got invited to a party where the plan was they were going to drink all night.

I personally don't really consider that an activity.  If they wanted to play charades and drink while doing it, fine, but just drinking by itself doesn't really make sense to me.  It's like the assumption is that everyone drinks so everyone will enjoy it, but then why invite someone who doesn't drink?

Have you ever been invited to a party where the whole party was about getting drunk?

Off-Topic / Those who celebrate Christmas, when do you open presents?
« on: December 23, 2013, 01:19:05 pm »Message ID: 831218
We've always had the tradition in our house that we wait till everyone wakes up on Christmas morning and start opening presents one at a time.  Normally someone has a camcorder and is recording the whole thing while one person takes their turn opening things.

My friends, however, seem to open one gift one Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day.

Any traditions like that in your family?

Off-Topic / Family Frustrations
« on: October 13, 2013, 12:52:50 am »Message ID: 805330
I wish people would realize that when you open up to them, not to sorta beat you into the ground with it.

Last night I had a big freak out in the middle of the night about never being able to find a job because I'm so far behind on everything and the 12 articles I just read basically support that fact and just tons of things building up on themselves to create this impassible wall that just overloaded my brain.  And, I'm already tired and stressed out about everything so it's hard to remind yourself that you can get past it.

Well, I mentioned it to my mom in passing, explaining why I'm not really tired right now, and she asked what I was talking about, so I start explaining how I was worried I'd never find a job and before I can finish the sentence, she's already interrupting with, "just picture the job you want and work towards it."  So I try to go back and explain why it was hard to see that when all I wanted to do was sleep and before I get far into it she's saying "just picture..." all again, so I say I already know that and start trying to explain why again before getting cut off with "well then do it already."

It's like, for crying out loud, I'm trying to explain something to you that kept me up all night and all you can do is attack me.  Is there any wonder why I have impostors syndrome with helpful people like you in my life beating me down?  It's like, I already worked through it, so obviously I don't need you telling me how to fix it, so why are you telling me to fix it?

I explained how during one interview they asked what I know about Javascript and I had to use it for one program in one class, so I said "we used it in a class but never got far into it".  After thinking about it, it's probably not the best way to phrase it, but I went to that job fair to talk to about a job in advertising and design, so I wasn't planning to talk about Javascript, so I didn't plan anything ahead of time in case it came up.  Well, again, she decided to lecture me about how you need to talk yourself up when you're applying for a job (which I hate/suck at doing) and be confident even if you don't think you are a good candidate for the job (which I don't know how to be confident when you can't answer their first question).

It's just so frustrating cause now I'm upset again and all I wanted to do was explain why I couldn't fall asleep until like 8AM.  I don't get those people who are probably trying to help but don't seem to get that the person didn't ask for help in the first place.

Off-Topic / Software Purchase Question
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:08:19 am »Message ID: 804178
Alright.  So, this is about buying Photoshop before I get stuck with their Cloud Subscription.  I want to go into video games and it seems like Photoshop is pretty much necessary for that (not for all careers in it, but still).  I've been looking at it for years and decided I should probably either jump on the boat while I can still get a perpetual license or figure out some other program to use instead (like Painter X3).

Seeing as Photoshop is pretty much on every job listing I've come across, I really keep leaning towards it but $800 for their extended copy seems like a lot for one program.  Plus, I would like to get Flash Pro as well, which is another $600.  So, I'm already at $1400 and I own two pieces of software when I could get a suite of 5-9 pieces of software for maybe $400 more, or I can get the Master Collection for $900 more (13 programs in total).  The problem is I don't know if I will ever use those pieces of software but it might be nice owning them in the future if I decide to delve into video editing, sound editing, or web development.

I'm at the point where all I really need immediately is Photoshop and maybe Flash Pro in a year and MAYBE Premier Pro down the line, but averaging $700 a piece seems insanely expensive, where as the Master Collection has more software, which may not get used, but is about $200 per software. And the other suites available are about on par with the price per software sold.

Is it better to settle for the lower cost per product when you might get software you won't use, or deal with the higher cost of a single piece of software?

I think my worry is that, if I ever need the video editing software, I'd have them if I buy a suite instead of having to find something later and pray it isn't expensive.  But then I have an issue with paying for something I'm not using either despite the cost being almost identical so that's why I need some outside opinions.

Off-Topic / Work Attire Suggestions For Women
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:33:44 am »Message ID: 801045
My college is holding a job fair in a few days, so I've been going through my wardrobe to find some work casual clothing that will be appropriate.  I have some shirts that will work, but I'm hoping some of you might have other ideas that would help me.

I get overheated very easy, especially indoors, to the point that I start sweating while I'm just sitting down or watching TV.  Because of this, it's really hard finding things to wear when the biggest trend is layering.  I also don't enjoy wearing skirts, so that sticks me with slacks.

My main shirts are either short sleeve or a wide band tank top.  Any other suggestions or styles I should try.  Maybe things to pair with shirts for a more professional look.

I also need shoes.  I can't wear ballet flats cause they just fall off my foot, but I'd love to know any other flat to maybe an inch high heel shoes that can use.  Also, people have suggested boots but I don't know what type of boots to wear with slacks.

Pictures or brand names are appreciated so I can see what you're suggesting.

One friend suggested a Bolero Shrug.  It looks like it would pair well with my tops.  Would anyone else wear one to work?
