Off-Topic / Making purchases in stores
« on: February 07, 2020, 08:10:13 am »Message ID: 1312063
Have you ever had anyone approach you in a store and try to discourage you from buying a product you had just put in your shopping cart?

The other day I picked up a package of the Nestle bottle waters and this woman gets really upset yelling about all the reasons I should not purchase from that company.  Something about how they put poison in the water and just had to pay billions of dollars in fines.  :o ::)

Then gets off in to a bunch of other stuff that is too crazy to repeat.  This is the first time something like this has happened to me.  The only other remotely same thing was when I had a package of eggs and a man ask me if I knew there was a recall on that brand.  I said no.  I quickly checked my phone and he was right.  I thanked him and left the eggs there. lol.

The next question - would you approach someone you did not know and discourage them from purchasing from a company because YOU did not agree with ethical choices they had made?

Off-Topic / Stupid Surveys
« on: February 05, 2020, 08:05:53 am »Message ID: 1311642
Rant for the day-

I am trying to understand why a survey asks to be completed by your 8 year old child.  Have your 8 year old child take over now.  The next question: What is the annual salary of your house hold?  What 8 yr old child is going to be able to know things like this?  Or asking questions about service providers for different things in your home.  Most kids know there is cable and internet but who the provider is and how much is paid - they do not know this.

Just makes me wonder about the ya-hoos behind writing these surveys.

So I saw a news story today about this virus in China and posing the question should this be considered a "Global Emergency".  I don't see how you can consider it a GLOBAL EMERGENCY when it is a China problem.  There are a few cases in the US (less than 5).  I don't see that as an emergency.  I would consider the flu more of an emergency.  It is pretty bad in my area.

Do you think this could become a problem in the US?

Do you take any precautions as to avoiding public crowded places because of illness right now?

Off-Topic / Fake News
« on: January 29, 2020, 05:05:16 am »Message ID: 1310630
I know there is a lot of "fake news" out there these days.  But I swear it seems almost everything is accused of being "fake news".

I saw something on Twitter about it being the 30 something anniversary of when the space shuttle exploded in mid air just after take off.  Some idiot commented on the story that it was fake news and a bunch of other stuff.

There were hundreds and hundreds of people standing there watching it and saw it happen.  Not to mention the thousands and thousands that saw it live on tv.  Several other big stories people want to say it is fake.  Like Sandy Hook and even Landing on the Moon.  I don't get it.  Why would people think these things did not happen?

Has any one else had this happen at the end of surveys?  I have seen it on a couple of different sites.

If you were in a place like Walmart and saw a guy come in wearing a big trench coat would you think anything about it?

Off-Topic / What would you do...

Just curious - IF you have twitter and some random person followed you and you looked at their bio and you see they are following 7 people, have 0 followers, and are from Iraq...

Would you just let them follow you, follow them back, or block them?  I blocked him.  :confused1: I just thought that was odd.

Does anyone have braces on their teeth or their kids or someone close in their family have braces?

Can a kid who has braces on their teeth eat Hershey's kisses candy?   ???

Off-Topic / Survey-Donation

Has anyone else seen the political survey where on the next to last page you are asked to download an app and you get $1 for every day you leave it installed?  It tracks your activity on your phone.  AND THEN on the final page you are asked to make a donation of $10?  You do not have a choice to decline making the donation.  You can either click the donate button or at the bottom hit back or continue. To me it wasn't clear what the donation even went to.  First time I have seen anything that asked for money at the end of the survey.  ???

Off-Topic / Christmas Tree
« on: November 07, 2019, 04:51:45 am »Message ID: 1300336
So I get up this morning and look out the window and notice my neighbor has put their Christmas tree up and has it lite up and flashing in their big picture window.  ;D

Two things came to my mind. lol  For some reason the first thing that hit me was the cry babies who have been on here belly aching because other people decorate their home, in their opinion, too early.  I have a friend that put his tree up almost 2 weeks ago.   :)

My 2nd thought was, it is suppose to rain today and be cold SO...  Guess what I am going to do in a little bit....
You guessed it.  Put up my Christmas decorations.  Although it takes me more than one day to get all my stuff up.  :) :)

Off-Topic / Promos/Free Items
« on: November 02, 2019, 03:38:57 pm »Message ID: 1299524
I have noticed a lot of places offer a free item if the cashier fails to ask you to make a donation or fails to suggest an item.
For example, back in the summer McDonald's had a sign if the cashier did not suggest the new freeze drink you got one free.  And a couple weeks ago they were doing a promo where if the cashier did not suggest the new chicken strip things you get a box free.

We have a grocery store that has 2 liters on every register and if the cashier fails to ask you to donate to whatever the cause of the week is you get that 2 liter free.  At different times of the year there are different items on the register.  I have seen this type thing in a few grocery stores.

Two questions - 1)  Has anyone noticed this any of the places you have been in  and 2)  if you did and the cashier failed to offer you the item or ask for donation or whatever would you tell them and get the free item?

Off-Topic / imaginarygirl - cats
« on: October 25, 2019, 08:44:23 am »Message ID: 1298420
Hey didn't you say you worked in a vet office.  I have googled and am not finding an answer.  But can a cat be mute?  I guess anything is possible.  There is a stray (well several of them) in my neighborhood.  One has been staying at my house a lot and I know it eats scraps and food at a couple of other houses but she doesn't really have a home. She likes to sleep on my vehicle.  ::)

Anyway I am pretty sure it is a girl.  She came up sort of close to me yesterday and I notice she always acts like she is trying to meow.  She opens her mouth but nothing comes out.  My oldest done that when I first got him but it was because he was hoarse from crying so long before I found him.  He was 3 weeks old and had been set out. He is fine now.  This cat has done this for quite some time.  I think she is trying to meow.  I also read that feral cats learn early on to be quite for safety.
