Off-Topic / Re: Do you use mouthwash when you brush your teeth?
« on: November 15, 2013, 03:49:27 pm »Message ID: 818625
I hadn't used mouthwash for quite some time, but started using it again after seeing countless Crest Pro Health ads.

The ads really do work.  At least they work on me.

Am I the only one? I have wanted a Ford Escape ever since the cute series of commercials where the girl got a free Ford Escape. I'm not a huge lover of commercials, but I loved watching that.  :monkey:

I miss some of the old emoticons.  :(

:monkey: What do you think of the reason of Insanity Plea Bargain?  :monkey:

Personally I think to many people get away with this... They get a slap on the wrist and what do they really learn? Nothing that's what.. If we keep letting people get away with reason of insanity we are telling them it's ok  to do wrong and what a great example we are setting for the rest of the world.. If one lead's one will deffinetly follow.. What are your thoughts?

I have to plead insanity on this question. No, really. :-X

I almost always say grace before eating. I want God to know how truly thankful I am for all his blessings. And food is a great blessing!

:turkey: Happy Thanksgiving.

I did absolutely nothing extracurricular except party. I'm ashamed to say that now.  :-[

I guess I could say that I wasn't encouraged to do anything, which I wasn't, but that's not a very good excuse.

Kudos to you all who played an instrument, sport or game, etc.

Off-Topic / Re: Do you have long or short hair?
« on: November 08, 2013, 03:02:56 pm »Message ID: 816000
I usually have longish hair. I've tried short hairdos several times but always come back to the safety of long hair. It's nice to be able to pull it up sometimes or put it in a ponytail. And I just thinks it looks better, on me at least. And I tend to like it on other people as well.

Not men, though. I like the look of short hair on men. It just seems more masculine to me.  :male:

I don't even really like to get my hair cut because it seems so mildly traumatic. Does anyone else feel this way?

Debate & Discuss / Views on electronic cigarettes
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:55:28 pm »Message ID: 815993
I'd like to know what everyone thinks about electronic cigarettes. It seems to be another billion dollar industry for big tobacco.
I worry about the people who feel that sucking on those vapor sticks is better for them than smoking regular cigarettes.

I've tried researching this online and it appears to me that they're really no better for you than smoking real cigarettes.

In my opinion, they are just another addiction.

What are your thoughts?  :dontknow: I'd really like some input on this subject.

Off-Topic / Re: People not washing hand after bathroom
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:39:56 pm »Message ID: 815979
Honestly, this is just basic hygiene. It must be another one of those things that they won't or don't teach in school anymore. I get a little upset when I see someone leaving the bathroom when they have not washed their hands  :angry7:.

I also wonder why they have to have the signs in public places like restaurants to warn employees to wash their hands before they return to work. Eeeeewwww.  :o  But I have to remember that it's out of my control, or out of my hands, so to speak.

Off-Topic / Re: Do you drink coffee?
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:32:43 pm »Message ID: 815977
My favorite coffee ever was Kona Island Breeze. I first bought it on a cruise ship and then bought it online after that. I never tasted
a coffee so good or that smelled so good. Anyway, the company was later bought out by another company who claimed to have the same flavor
but it was not at all the same.  :sad1:

Now my favorite coffee brand is Ronnoco. I buy bags of it from a little restaurant down the street and brew it at home if I'm not eating at the restaurant.
It is just plain coffee but very good. I always use two sugars and regular half & half.

Off-Topic / Re: affordable care act
« on: November 03, 2013, 12:15:56 pm »Message ID: 813622
It reminds me a lot of when Social Security was implemented.  There was much of negativity and problems in getting the bill up and running.  Now many seniors depend on it.  They are proud also that they paid for it (except for some low-lifes who get disability for made-up illnesses and conditions.  I personally know some of them.)  I for one am happy for Social Security retirement.  I've been paying into it for fifty years, and now the relatively small monthly payments my husband and I get are a large part of what we live on.  So many people without health insurance get health care from the government.  And there are many who go to the ER and can't pay for it.  The rest of the population pays for that.  In my opinion, the AHA is a good plan.  The sign-up system needs some work.  Many of those who can't afford the premiums will still get stipends from the government to pay for it.  Some people will pay very little.  I see so much every day on Facebook and in other media that is passed along as Gospel truth, and much of it is far from the truth.  Every time I see a political post on FB, I research it or at least look it up on Snopes.  Most of it is made-up stuff that has been circulating year months and years.  Why do some people believe everything they see or hear?    Can't we use our own brains and powers of reasoning?  I heard something long ago:  Don't believe anything you hear or half you see.  I live by that.

If we aren't supposed to believe anything we hear or half of what we see, how can we research anything?

I'm not so sure Snopes is all that reliable either.

I have heard via news on radio that thousands of people were dropped from their insurance companies because their insurance did not comply with the ACA requirements. These are huge changes that the companies cannot implement without raising premiums. To me, this is highly disturbing. The people who thought they'd be okay with their current insurer have been bilked. Most everyone I know with insurance is paying a great deal more now in premiums.  :sad1: Obama promised that we'd be able to keep our current insurance plans. He promised.  :bs:

I was willing to see how the plan worked after it was implemented, but if they can't get the computer sign-up system working, then how will the actual system function.  :dontknow:

It also warns on the website that you cannot be guaranteed any security with your personal information. Does that make you feel all safe and secure? If the system works and you sign up, then how many different entities will be privy to your private info?

I also heard via news on NPR and Christian Radio that the computer system had several different companies initially working on the system which cost taxpayers millions of dollars. And now they're going to have the same people keep working on it to fix it. That sounds like a good idea, right? And they've assured us that it will be up and running by the end of November.

My favorite part is how K. Sebelius has apologized for the website fiasco. That's touching, isn't it? She says it's her fault. What punishment is there for her as the culpable party? It's pretty easy to apologize for something when there is no retribution coming to you for the offense.

I don't know what impact it will have on my insurance at this point, but I'm going to start researching it this week. I hope I can count on something that I read or hear to be accurate. We'll see. No offense, bu my own "brain and powers of reasoning" cannot function without some sort of input.

Debate & Discuss / Re: What is happening to today's Youth?

Media, media, media. When profanity is everywhere in the media, e.g., television, movies, radio, online, etc., it will be adopted into society.

If there are no repercussions for using bad language, what is the incentive to stop?  :angry7:

Moral relativism is also an answer to this question. If you don't think it's wrong to swear, then it's okay for you to swear. Right?  :-X

Off-Topic / Re: Flu Shot
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:31:14 am »Message ID: 812497
I had to get a flu shot every year for a long time due to my work. Now that I am not working where I have to get it, I don't get it.

My ENT agrees with me. It's not the best idea for everyone. After all, it only covers a few strains of the flu virus. What are the chances that you will be exposed to only those viruses for which you have been vaccinated?  :confused1:

If you're not a high risk person (such as heart disease or a compromised immune system) and do not live with a high risk person, I would not bother with it.

Debate & Discuss / Re: relationship issues
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:16:39 am »Message ID: 812474
If you found out your spouse was talking to a girl/guy would you be mad and what would you do?

Talking is not a capital offense. I would say it depends on the situation. Are they talking in person or online? Are they alone or with other people? Was your relationship in trouble already and he/she is confiding in the other person? Many variables here.

Make sure you know the context of the situation before you react. Getting angry and being confrontational would probably be a mistake. But if it concerns you, the you should talk about it with your spouse. Marriage is for keeps if you can stand the heat.   :angel12:

Off-Topic / Re: Candy Crush Download in Videos
« on: October 27, 2013, 09:15:05 am »Message ID: 810095
I was excited to see this download in the Videos today since I am a Candy Crush fanatic.  2 hours later after uninstalling all the crap that came with it, I am DONE with any downloads (even things I love).  I am really disappointed.  :(

I am so afraid to download anything, even if it sounds fun, that I didn't even try it.

Thanks for the update that validates my decision.

I'm sorry for your pain.  :(
