Debate & Discuss / Do You Really WANT a Longer Life if It Means You Have to Be a Vegetarian?
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:40:00 am »Message ID: 851876
Care2 explains how being a meat-eater actually changes your digestion---making you age faster & increasing your risk of heart-attack.

But isn't there something missing in your life if you can't triumphantly dine on roast-beast?

(And if you can't/don't/wouldn't-if-you-could,
 don't you wish you could/did/didn't-really-care-so-much?)

Debate & Discuss / What Should Oklahoma Do about its Crowded Prisons?
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:29:06 am »Message ID: 851869
Oklahoman prisons are over-crowded. Expanding with more privately-owned prisons is apparently a bad idea, but what else can be done about it (that doesn't involve the government's common practice of 'making money appear out of nowhere')?

Debate & Discuss / Minesweeper: How Do We Know Which Square to Start On?
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:10:40 am »Message ID: 851853
You know the game (comes on many PCs standard): a grid of grey squares, clicking on one either reveals a blank space, a number, or a bomb you just died stepping on. The numbers indicate how-many of the squares directly-surrounding have bombs beneath them.

Is the usual practice just to click on a corner or two and hope you're lucky?

Off-Topic / What if Life WOULDN'T Go On Without You?

What if everyone in the world would just immediately stop suffering through life if all you had to do was end yours?

I don't really desire to know; but how can we find out without experimenting :angel12: ?

I mean, yeah;  we can look at the 'evidence' of bazillions of people who've killed themselves bajillions of ways, but what if we try it some way no one has ever thought of?

Off-Topic / Re: mustard vs ketchup
« on: February 17, 2014, 10:20:43 am »Message ID: 851826
Which of the two is healthier? mustard or ketchup?

I'll vote for ketchup, making it 4 for ketchup & 7 for mustard!

But I'm looking `em both up!

Well, Ketchup came up first in a search for "mustard, ketchup, health (one point, ketchup), going on to say

Quote
Ketchup has moderate health benefits. Ketchup is a source of lycopene, an antioxidant which may help prevent some forms of cancer. This is particularly true of the organic brands of ketchup, which have three times as much lycopene. Ketchup, much like marinara sauce and other cooked tomato foods, yields higher levels of lycopene per serving because cooking increases lycopene bioavailability.

In May 2010, Hunt's stopped using high fructose corn syrup in its ketchup products because of consumer complaints.

A search for "mustard, health" wasn't so bright, as the plant is famously used for a poison-gas.

Debate & Discuss / Re: Exodus Shows that God ALSO Wants to Keep Politics Out of Worship!

So you are actually a Buddhist. Why the Bible subterfuge?

I am not a 'Myth of Buddha'-ist.

Look at the actual word "Buddhist": a follower of a Buddha. Look at the actual word "Buddha": awakened/enlightened one.

I am a follower of a Buddha named Y`shua bin Yosef (a.k.a. Jesus), whose path is communicated through the Holy Bible. His path is The Light. Unlike Lucifer (bringer of Light), Jesus WAS/IS the Light. Much like a famous Buddha, this Son of God looked down from His high-white-tower home, saw people who wanted The Light but who were forced to believe they could not have The Light, & came down from His high-white-tower to show them how to find The Light for themselves.

And the church exists to keep The Light away from them (until they prove themselves righteous children of God, who will use The Light for the glory of Our Father).

Christ being anointed by this (which is more than we are told biblicaly, btw) would not negate His sufficiency as our Sacrifice.

Says who?

The problem is you seem to have your own brand of "Christianity" that is in stark contrast to that of the Christ of the Bible.Christ is the Son of God and you seem to have downgraded Him to some kind of "Master Jedi" who was only better at using the Force than His peers.

You shouldn't try so hard to reconcile/reorder the Bible to your satisfaction. The Word of God is just that: His Word.

'The Bible' says Adam is the Son of God, and that Jesus is then thought to be one of God's great-grandchildren (that's according to Luke, who did His family-tree through Joseph ... however, I understand that maybe one-or-more of the other Gospels recounts His ancestry through Mary; who was DEFINITELY His mother)
Actually,Luke's genealogy is the one to trace Christ's ancestors through Mary's line.Matthew's would be through Josephs.

Quote
Paul explains in Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—

13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So Adam is not an actual "Son" of God,or like Christ,he would not be capable of sin.

I don't think you'd believe President Obama's birth-certificate if you learned it hasn't been written yet and when it is written it'll be written by some guy who sees him in a hallucination on his way to crack-down on some Muslims, which is essentially how Paul met Jesus.

Luckily 'The Bible' IS NOT the Word of God. If the Bible WERE the Word of God, it would be literally true. Luckily, it's NOT so true; it's true with 'the right interpretation,' but you'll hold to the interpretation you like even if it's PROVEN WRONG again-&-again.

The Bible IS the Word of God.I don't know how or why you continue to read it if it's not in your estimation.

Your "right interpretation" has been torn apart countless times, yet you still hold to it.That bares the hallmarks of a cult.

The Bible IS the Word of God? Then Why don't you worship the giants who trod the Earth & defiled our women?

Have you even seen my 'right interpretation'? (The 'right interpretation' I was talking about was the right interpretation YOU CALL "right.") No, you haven't heard my right interpretation ... listening, you cannot hear; but you're swift to judge anyway.

Religion IS cult.

Debate & Discuss / Why Obamacare Sucks
« on: February 13, 2014, 07:55:03 pm »Message ID: 850769
Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act, ACA) reveals something about ALL health-insurance ... it needs many 'young invincibles' to sign up (paying high costs for OTHER PEOPLE, themselves not needing health-care)

Kaiser Family Foundation says 40% of enrollment needs to be YI's in order to balance-out the old, sick 60%, the Daily Oklahoman reports.

I think the thing for the ACA-workers to do is just BE the best deal ... maybe 'taking licensure-fees out of doctors who allow patients on other plans to be seen' or 'paying the doctors more than other plans'---just generally BEING the best, and letting 'time' decide if they're good.

Debate & Discuss / Did Obama Mention the Tar-Sands to O`Reilly? @StephenAtHome @BarackObama
« on: February 13, 2014, 07:38:23 pm »Message ID: 850765
COMEDY CENTRAL's The Colbert Report featured scenes from FOX NEWS' Bill O`Reilly interview with President Barack Obama, in which O`Reilly mentioned the government-report on the proposed Keystone XL-pipeline's possible environment-effects, asked Obama what his approval-decision was going to be and then TOLD him what 'it had better' be ::)

They say the report says that yes, the pipeline will have a bad effect on the environment; but so will the trains/boats/trucks the company'll use to transport that oil anyway.

But they seem mum on the 'tar sand'-effect: that the sand-oil will have a 17% harsher effect on the atmosphere than traditional crude-oil.

Looking at that aspect of it: It seems to me that--since people are gonna mine the oil anyway--Obama's decision is more 'Do we want America to share the blame for the extra damage, or do we want to keep America blameless?'

What do you think?

Genesis 3:15New International Version (NIV) 15 And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspringa]">[or seed] and hers;
he will crushb]">[or strike] your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

You DO remember that Genesis was by-definition a "myth" (like my life-story is to you, like yours is to me ... not an out-&-out "lie," but a story made up to fit our origin as near as the writer can figure. Maybe research has found that the Creation story was verbal history that Moses finally wrote into Genesis, but--as far as I know--he wrote it).

Eve was 'a type.' She may not have ACTUALLY been the mother of all humanity, but was more-likely one of the MANY human-ish females ... like the wife of Cain, the wife of Seth, etc.
Quote
Matthew 24:14New International Version (NIV) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
And HOW does that make 'you' a disciple?
Please dont single me out.I am struggling to get on narrow path as much as anyone else. But i will not be ashamed to speak the truth either.
(I hear you say "truth," and I think,
Quote from: Andrew Lloyd Webber's partner, lyricist on JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
But what is truth? Is truth 'unchanging law?'
We both have 'truths'; Are mine the same as yours?)

And you're right that I shouldn't single you out, but Satan is going to try to. Maybe I'm giving you practice for that :angel12: He/the-world requires that you know who you are, and--when they ask you--the proper response is (something like) 'whatever we make me.'  (They say "you are what you own/owe," but one can see that 'you are what you do, followed/led swiftly by -what you say you do.')

So you're trying to equate the wise man's gift to Christ with Christ being sinless?...

No, I'm not. I'm observing that frankincense & oil make the sin-sacrifice INVALID and that Jesus--being anointed by those things--is (in worldly measure) an invalid sacrifice.

Something I think we can safely talk about since we're not trying to 'lure people into the church.'

Debate & Discuss / Re: Why Do Christians GO AGAINST JESUS HIMSELF & Deny Reincarnation?
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:24:03 pm »Message ID: 850747
No.John never claimed to be Elijah. He was called to testify that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God.Jesus confirmed this both in word and deed.Instead of trying to bring Christ down to our level, you should at least try to understand who He was in the first place.

"Christ"---a title given to Jesus by His disciples

Christ means Messiah in Hebrew.Jesus came in fulfillment of the prophecy of the promised Messiah.I'm sure you knew that. But,I point it out for fear your twisted reasoning may confuse others.

I think part of your theological "hang ups" come from your "sorta-kind,Christian/sorta-kinda Buddhist" beliefs. You might want to simply "pick a team" rather than try to make two mutually exclusive concepts cohesive.

I am mutually-exclusive! :P
