Off-Topic / Re: College

One thing many college kids don't investigate is the opportunities out there for a given major. I can't tell you how many kids I know that pursued a field that they love only to discover the dearth of opportunities out there. While it's wonderful to pursue your passions, there needs to be a healthy dose of pragmatism.

One thing I always tell kids is to keep up on their math skills. It will always leave the door open to more technically based pursuits even if they don't eventually pursue them. It's nice to have options.

Now I'll tell you what I tell my kids, get out there get a good job and take care of mom and dad!

When the kids were younger we did things as a family, as they got older the kids of course became less enthusiastic about hanging with mom and dad. Now with the kids older, the wife and I do things together or with friends. Sometimes she's out with the girls and out with the guys, sometimes we're all together. Variety is the spice of life.

We always tried to change things up and try new things with the hids as well. We took our kids everywhere from kayaking to botanical gardens to baseball games to fishing. Then if they really liked something we would go back to it.

Like many things in this country PC has just gotten out of hand. What mny would regard as PC is what earlier generations referred to as being polite. Now on many college campuses asking someone where their from is considered non PC.

George Carlin said it best "PC is fascism pretending to be manners".

One of my buddies refers to the teenage years as the tunnel. That loving sweet creature that used to sit on your lap disappears for a number of years. The good news is that they usually reappear when they get to the college years.

I love the "sharknado type" movies. I grew up watching bad sci-fi movies and am still a huge fan of "critter" movies. I could watch Godzilla movies until the cows come home.

I grew up a Browns fan but years ago started following college more, go Buckeyes. Now I enjoy the coverage of high school ball more than anything.

I'm also a tree lover. One of the coolest things I've ever seen was 55 acres of virgin forest in southern Ohio. It did not resemble what people think of when they think of the woods. Massive trees with virtually no undergrowth. even my dog seemed in awe.

I'm jealous that my nephew and 2 nieces have planned a trip to view the eclipse, I'm happy for them but still jealous.

Sorry for your situation, unfortunately I can't offer advice, I married my childhood sweetheart, and am still happily married. Don't mean to "rub that in", it's just that I sometimes think that knowing each other so well has been a big part of our success, it's been so long that I can't imagine life without her. I honestly can't remember life before her.

The best thing I ever did was buy a freezer. I buy a 1/2 cow from a ranch that I know. Always great quality.

I'm pretty sure I like taking naps, I just can't remember, it's been so long. When my daughters were young I loved afternoon naps with them in my lap. sadly they're to old for such things now. I think I need some grandkids!

I hit the farm markets. Peaches, blackberries, cantaloupe and zucchini. Good stuff!

I've owned a small business for many years, I stopped counting hours long ago. Although my wife will occasionally let me know when it's getting out of hand.
