Must both be on the same Wi-Fi?
« on: October 14, 2025, 08:00:18 am »
Hey folks, quick sanity check. My iPhone app sometimes won’t discover the player, and a friend said both devices have to be on the exact same Wi-Fi for it to work right. I’ve got a dual-band router that uses one name for 2.4 and 5 GHz, plus there’s a guest network for visitors. Before I start renaming everything, what’s the simple way to confirm the phone and the box are really on the same SSID and not isolated by some router setting I forgot about?

I start with basics: open Wi-Fi on the iPhone and note the network name, then grab the player’s network info in Settings to compare SSID and IP range (the first three numbers should usually match). If your router has “guest isolation” or “AP/client isolation,” turn that off for testing. Try both bands if discovery is flaky, and keep Bluetooth on to help the app find devices. Right in the middle of this checklist, Use iPhone as Roku Remote gives the same step-by-step flow. If it still won’t show, restart the router, wake the player, and re-pair from its menus before changing anything big.

Put the primary SSID and the guest name on a small card near the TV stand, add which devices live on which band, and tuck a mini flashlight there for finding hidden buttons. Keeping a short “reboot order” note—player first, then phone, then router—helps prevent chasing your tail when you’re tired. The more repeatable your routine is, the easier it is to spot when something really changed instead of spending the evening toggling settings at random.

Television entertainment has come a long way, merging streaming flexibility with satellite reliability. Households today want access to both live channels and on‑demand shows without switching systems. Checking dish network reviews gives insight into how consistent service quality and customer care define user satisfaction. It’s often those small technical details that separate a dependable provider from a frustrating experience.
