Earthquake

Has anyone ever been in an earthquake before?  I was in a very, very mild one when I was little and it was scary!

I've never been in a earthquake before. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to be in a severe earthquake! A small one sure but I've still never experienced it. Now..a tornado..I have been right next to one of those before. :)

We had a VERY mild one where I live and it was barely enough to wake me up.  I woke my husband up and we saw on the news that it was indeed an earthquake...it was so disturbing bc they are far from normal where we live.  We watched the news for quite a while before being able to go back to sleep.  I say that not to say, "Oh, poor baby, you were scared!", but to say, I can not even imagine the sheer terror of what they experienced and are still experiencing in Haiti.  What must it be like to look everything and in most cases, everyone!?  To feel that hopeless and also to be afraid of yet another aftershock that could further the devastation...
I am praying that all the people here in the US that are shaking their heads and saying, "I wish there was something I could do!" ... would actually DO something and give to the reputable charity of their choosing.  Charity Navigator is a good resource to see where the money actually goes and how trustworthy they are!

I later heard of several small quakes that had happened while driving a semi in L.A. county but the trucks ride so rough anyway I never felt them.

I was in the Valley over by Bakersfield when the Northridge quake struck back in the early 90s.

I'll take a quake over a tornado any day....and hopefully that day, like most other days, will find me far far away from the city!

I've been in a few ..the most being a 5.9 in CA which was pretty good shaker. The first one I felt was actually in South Carolina ..so it can happen anywhere at any time. I have given to the Red Cross and will give again. The magnitude of the devastation in Haiti is so great, it will take quite a long time to restore any kind of sanity/stability, comfort and even just get it to something resembling normal. They are having to amputate limbs every day with no anesthesia in a lot of cases. The corpses keep piling up and more are dying each day. Even today there are many probably taking their last breath underneath a pile of concrete. It is a nightmare of unprecedented proportions and if you have any spark of human decency in you, then you want to help ..that's what the Red Cross is there for...GIVE and GIVE again!

:wave:hahahah I live in CENTRAL CALIFORNIA!!! We have at LEAST twelve earhtquacks a day!! Most people don't feel them, because they are little ones.. Sometimes we have big ones.. Check out the' San Francisco Chronical'newspaper on any Friday, and they tell you how many earthquacks we had that week !!! I love the little ones, because when they happen, the gold shakes loose, and makes its way to the top of the earth, and then i pan for it!!!YEAH!!!!!!!!

I've been in two. The first one bounced all of my furniture around and the second one was more aggressive in that some people's houses were pretty damaged. Nothing to compare to Haiti for sure, but odd to all of a sudden be in one.

I've only been in 2 very minor ones.  I dont remember the 1st because I was like 5, and the 2nd I didnt really feel because it happened while I was sleeping almost 2 years ago.  It was the earthquake that actually occurred in Indiana and Kentucky.  It freaked my animals out though.
I have been through 3 microbursts - pretty much tornados but they dont move, its just a massive downward forceful wind and last a shorter period of time.

I was on a pier in the ocean when an earthquake hit Santa Barbara.   I thought it was just some strong waves, but the pier was rocking.  Lol. Nowhere near as bad as what's going on in Haiti obviously.

I've been in several nothing major.  I used to live in Taiwan and they have them all the time.  When I lived in Hawaii there was one a few years ago, knocked out the power for a whole day but no major damage.
